all of this world is a pendulum

and when power is consolidated and abused, after a degree it must and will be challenged by those who are oppressed by it.

I hope I don't have to live to see the same here. because often power is challenged many times unsuccessfully before enough martyrs exist to provide the will to finish the job. and that usually equates to a large amount of civilian death

It can happen in a socialist state, because people have nothing to lose - anything destroyed, anyone injured, the tab will be picked up by society.

In the US people have too much personal investment in their lives, so they won't risk this type of open warfare.  Plus the US government is better organized and more vengeful.

They want freedom and they know that allying with Russia is about as far from freedom as they're going to get.  Putin wants to rule with an iron fist over all of the former Soviet Union and the only thing stopping him from using troops to achieve his goals is the chance that the world would step in to stop him.

2014-01-25 11:17:53 AM
I would be upset with Putin getting his grubby hands into the root of my government as well.

It looks like it is leading in the direction of a civil war.  But the opposition do not have a majority, so it could be a totalitarian crackdown.

Feeding trolls, etc,..

Why does everyone think that socialism means nobody owns any property? Furthermore, why does anyone think that current "socialist" countries are actually socialist?

Go to Vietnam (one of the few self-proclaimed socialist states) and steal someone's motorcycle. They're not going to just let you walk away because "society will pick up the tab"

some of those "protestors" hurling molotovs look more like the riot police themselves/agents provocateurs.

I didn't know protestors came equipped with matching camo, kevlar vests, helmets and gas masks...

farking media.  not sure why the Western media has started downplaying this... I was reading more coverage and support prior to the riots breaking out.  you'd think the Western gov'ts would've cranked up their condemnations of Yanukovich's regime after they started shooting protestors, but I guess not.  my thoughts are either:

1.) given the income disparity and shiatty economic conditions pretty much everywhere in the world right now, NO government wants its people seeing images of civil unrest, regardless of whether they are friendly to Ukraine/Russia or not..

or

2.) after some early diplomatic support for the protests, the western governments all cut deals with Ukraine (read that to mean Vladimir Putin & Russia) to keep out of it... in exchange for something else from Russia.  Who knows what that could be,

Came here to say that. Currently playing Metro which has this exact look and feel. The game on the other hand is a bit disappointing as it is kind of linear and not all that interesting. But, I got it as a gift on Steam so what the heck.

Jeebus! That is awful looking, looks like a movie set. Still nothing on the news about Ukraine, just the cold weather, Bieber and the Olymipics. I did see a tidbit about the state of the union today.

Good luck to anyone there.

You are apparently unfamiliar with the current Ukrainian government/kleptocracy...

They don't know enough to call massive handouts from the central exchequer "bailouts" or "subsidies"

So what you are saying that Obama did a deal with Putin, and then told Fox News to stop showing much about the Kiev riots and they said "Yes, Mr President, anything you say, Mr President"?

At what point do the police bow to the will of the people?  After all, they are technically civilians themselves.  They are now simply making themselves obsolete and potential fugitives when the next government comes into power.  It seems that the rule of law has broken down and civil war has erupted.  What role do the police now have, who do they serve?

2014-01-25 11:31:08 AM
Wtf is with these people? Can't they get anything done without acting like a bunch of animals, destroying everything?  I sometimes think that Americans are the only civilized folks on Earth.

rev. dave: It looks like it is leading in the direction of a civil war.  But the opposition do not have a majority, so it could be a totalitarian crackdown.

Voting is what people do as a less damaging and more efficient alternative to replacing the leadership through armed rebellion and civil war. The option for the side that loses the vote to ignore it and wage the civil war anyhow is still there, at all times, because it only takes one side to start a war. However, if the rebels can't muster the poll numbers to win the vote, they almost certainly don't have the military power to win any civil war they start. They can make their name and cause synonymous with senseless vandalism and murderously childish temper tantrums, but that's all they will really accomplish.

/all according to Putin's plan
//unless the rebels actually DO get the military power needed to overthrow the government from somewhere unexpected...

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Your hopes that you can take their money will be dashed. No American revolution will happen for the sake of taking the property of others. Go make a living.
