Subby, Do you realize what you've done? You've taken
a woman who loves you...One of the great women
on the face of this Earth and thrown her away.
I've lost her too, but I'll get over it
because I am shallow and self-centred.
But you, you won't
because you are complex.
You will suffer terrible anguish
for the rest of your life.

I give it two weeks.

Money Pit describes most NBC programming.

The movie was very good at making the audience feel trapped in a literal pit of unfunniness.  With Shelley Long.

[shudder]

Because NBC.

2014-01-25 02:17:48 AM
Because the Parenthood reboot has worked out well why not the Money Pit.

2014-01-25 03:35:54 AM
Eh, it could work. The plot has room for plenty of new and old jokes.

Shelly long is replaceable. Hanks not so much, though a good comedian with a different character could certainly fill the spot.

NBC is hitting this IP right at the height of its popularity. This is seen especially in the key demos. Excellent timing.

Who comes up with this crap? Money Pit was a fun movie, but in no way is it crying out for a remake, especially this late in the game.

Hollywood seems incapable of making anything that isn't somewhere in the following :

1. A remake that nobody asked for.
2. A reboot that nobody asked for.
3. A sequel that nobody asked for.
4. A prequel 20 years in the making.
5 . Reality TV.

Seriously, they hardly any good ideas anymore instead rehashing all of the same stuff that most of us still remember seeing in the theatre the first time.

Fark these people.

Diane was too insecure to be truly evil.  However, I agree that I liked her better than Rebecca.

Frasier and Sam might disagree. She played them both. And god knows what she was up to in Europe once she gave Frasier the slips.

There was always something a bit sad about Diane.  To paraphrase Lisa Simpson, she was about a step removed from being a heroine in a Tennessee Williams play.

I can see it. I have always felt a bit bad for her, so maybe evil isn't the word. She did leave two men at the alter, though, which is fairly unforgivable. Her friendship with the Coach was fantastic and heartfelt. Felt very real, and from what I've read online, was.  Aside from the marriage thing, I quite like her, in a liking something that's bad for you kind of way. And while I feel her leaving the show put the show in a slump, it was probably for the best, because how long could they really have dragged out the on again off again dynamic?

I guess I just feel really bad for Sam. Frasier, not so much. But Sammy...dude tried and tried. Also he bought her two farking rings, 4 dresses, and an entire house...then lost the bar. Sure, he bought it back for 85 cents, but still. He got played, HARD.

The subject matter of The Money Pit was fine for a movie but for a tv show the premise would quickly get old. Maybe if they keep changing houses for some reason it might work but for the same house every week after a few episodes you're going to wonder why they don't just burn it to the ground and commit insurance fraud.

Yeah the only way I could see it working is if they became house flippers

A quick search shows The Money Pit was a Universal Pictures release. Universal is part of NBC. They don't have to pay for a property they already own so....we get shiatty remakes of TV shows and movies.

I miss Alexander Godunov, so under rated.

And subby, maybe because The Money Pit was a god damned masterpiece! It rocketed White Lion to stardom for gods sake, it deserve the number 1 spot on best films list for that fact alone!

So someone at NBC caught a few episodes of Renovation Realities and decided to do a scripted version.  Meh.

I want to like Renovation Realities, but the truth is the episodes are hit and miss with me.  Most of the time I want to slap one of them for either doing something really dangerous to themselves or their home, or how they treat their SO.  My biggest complaint is, why make it a week time restraint on the couple?  They never finish the job on time for filming.  The only times I've gotten a room done in a week's time is when it is mostly a mud and repaint job.  I got a couple rooms I want to change to hardwood flooring.  That is going to suck a little because one is my bedroom.

The couple from GA bugged me the most.  They pulled their cabinets down, painted them, then put them back up.  Just paint the things in place and save yourself all that labor.  Then the wife kept crying, whining and just making things miserable for the hubby.  The lesbian couple in another episode actually surprised me.  The one did act like a typical girl with the jigsaw, but she got better.  Their bathroom went well, as I figured they would've totally messed it up.  So, a good episode here and there.

You wouldn't know it from watching Cheers where she wore nothing but fat clothes, nothing that revealed her figure.

DRTFA.

It'll be a gritty reboot with some kind of 'ghostly' reason why the house is breaking down. They're gonna mash as much fairy tale and supernatural crap as they can into it with forced drama from neighbors and moronic plot twists that would not be there if people acted like normal human beings.

RedPhoenix122: Money Pit describes most NBC programming.

Quite the opposite, sadly. NBCUniversal, owned by Comcast, is actually making money hand over fist, because they're greenlighting low-budget crap that can be watched unironically by Boomers and ironically by Millennials. No plot, no real acting, no real special effects need apply. There's a reason SyFy's still on the air, after all, despite the flurry of shiatty "movies" and poorly constructed "TV shows" pitched by those assholes.

NBCUniversal realizes that you'll eat off their dollar menu, and so will happily serve it up at a quarter of its cost. You consume shiatty content, they make loads of money, and then can brag about their profit margins even as cable descends into the 10th circle of programming Hell.

I never really thought Shelley Long was hot (I guess little me bought into Carla's criticism) until I saw Night Shift.  Wowza.  And if I remember correctly, there was a panty shot in Money Pit as well, when she did a head-over-heels thing or something.

Slow To Return: until I saw Night Shift.

Yeah but wasn't she a hooker in that movie? The hooker element greatly increases the hotness factor.

Considering that The Money Pit was a reboot of "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home," I don't rally see a problem too much in this.

2014-01-25 04:37:25 PM
It could work as a single camera rip on house flippers.
3 camera sit-com?  2 weeks.
Unless it has a band called Meryl Streep.

Speaking as someone who bought and renovated an 1860"s home when The Money Pit came out, I found it the movie to be very unfunny. It made me want to cry.

I have an expression regarding older homes: "They don't build them like they used to - thank God!"

quizzical: Murphy Brown played out the endless home remodel joke already.  I'm not sure how making that the focus of a whole series will work.

Who says this has to be funny?  Why not throw everybody a curve and go for a darker and edgier reboot of The Money Pit?  Instead of a sitcom about the trials and tribulations of a young couple remodeling an old house, take a page from the story about the Winchester Mystery House and make it into an intense quasi-supernatural thriller about a house restoration project that must be kept going at all costs in order to keep dark forces at bay.  Madness and bankruptcy ensue.
