kabar: Still trying to nail down my preferred pre/soap/balm combo
mithras_angel: Just another Heartland Weirdass: Lenin had a beard. So did Che, and look what happened to him.
Dancin_In_Anson: kabar: Still trying to nail down my preferred pre/soap/balm comboMy Daughter in Law got me this pre shave oil and I like it. As far as soaps go, I like Porasso and/or Colonel Conk's. I bought the variety pack and like the Bay Rum the best so far.
Dancin_In_Anson: Goimir: Solid, square end, and either an old one from a small town junk shop or a new high-dollar one with good reviews. You want carbon steel or stellite for the blade, not stainless, as it tends to be gummy.Thanks. Gotta learn how to properly strop it too!
Mad Scientist: imfallen_angel: Anoter vote for DE shaving... never looked back and view cartridge razors with horror now... seriously.Another vote here. With a double edge blade and a good badger brush, I get better results than the 5-blade cartridge I was using. The DE blades I use are a nice way to give the big middle finger to Gillette/P&G/Schick and their huge marketing campaigns and overpriced gimmick products.
kabar: Talk about eye opening. Strong menthol
TWX: Fun fact, one can strop a cheapo disposable razor too, and get probably 10x the useful life out of it.
Dancin_In_Anson: bbcard1: Grab your badger brush and lather up....I took me a while to learn how to spin up a good lather. I also am very conscious about using too much water when trying to get it hot so what I've started doing is putting my brush in my mixing bowl and using my Keurig to heat both up. Works like a charm and the lather stays hot!
imfallen_angel: Face lather instead.
Dancin_In_Anson: imfallen_angel: Face lather instead.Tried it but I haven't figured out how to work up a thick enough lather. Any tips?
imfallen_angel: I doesn't need to be thick, it needs to be "right"... a slightly runny lather on the face will hydrate the face very well and make the shave easier
MBZ321: Maybe because everthing P&G makes is so vastly overpriced...Charmin, Bounty, Old Spice, Duracell, Crest, Tide, Head & Shoulders, etc.Maybe consumers are finally wising up and buying the hundreds of competitors' products that exist at a much better value.
Dancin_In_Anson: imfallen_angel: I doesn't need to be thick, it needs to be "right"... a slightly runny lather on the face will hydrate the face very well and make the shave easierFair nuff...but I really don't like a runny lather that drips off the razor as I'm shaving just as I don't like one that is thick and dry and I have found that I get my best results using a bowl...and the bowl keeps the lather warm too.
