When Kaufman turned that script in, everyone must have been so confused.

FTFA: Though I'm not expecting to laugh and cry at the premiere of Lean In, there is a bit of good news out there for movie lovers in the tech space. If Lean In can be turned into a movie, there's a really great chance that Bilton's book, Hatching Twitter, on the origins of the shortwinded social network will also find its way to the big screen.

The author of TFA and I have radically different definitions of the term "good news".

He's Just Not That Into You
Think Like a Man
Mean Girls

Using a self-help/advice book as a springboard for a narrative feature isn't anything new. Hell, there can even be a good one from time to time (hint: it's not the first three up there).

Still a better vampire story than Twilight.

I think Adaptation is a litmus test: if you can't follow it, your brain doesn't really work.

It does make more sense if you know that Kauffman was hired to adapt A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick, which is where the whole "victim is chased by a serial killer is chased by a detective who are all the same person" idea comes from. But I only found that out after seeing the film.

I think it was a case where one studio bought it so the others wouldn't have it.  It then took them years to figure out what to do with it, which ended up turned out to be giving it to Woody Allen.

Haven't read the book, but the topic and the way it's presented feels like the title should start with "One quick trick to..."

Let me leansplain this to y'all.

i.imgur.com

If you're a dude and you're not already a billionaire like Sheryl, there's a culture that says you gotta bro down and code, get out of the profession, or retire to a (oh, the horror!) lifestyle company. Raise your money, take your chances, exit, rinse, repeat. That's the system's fault. Stupid system! Stupid brogrammers for accepting it!

Well, if that's your professional competition, then the obvious conclusion that if you're a woman and not a billionaire like Sheryl (or Marisa), it's your fault. If you're doing 40-hour weeks, you're already fired. If you're doing 60-hour weeks, you're a traitor to your sex. If you're doing 80-hour weeks and you're still not a billionaire, you need to lean in, give the job your all, and show those brogrammers that you can do not just 80-hour weeks, but 100-hour weeks! Do I hear 120? Just keep leaning in, and you, too, can be just like Sheryl! You want to be like Sheryl, don't you? Just lean in just a little further. Burnout only happens to those fragile flowers, not to strong women like her followers. Leaning in never fails people; people just fail to lean in, and when they burn out, it's because they didn't lean in hard enough.
