BMulligan: scottydoesntknow: Based on the mic'd up video I saw yesterday, Crabtree showed the poor sportsmanship first. Sherman went up to him after the play to shake his hand and say "Hell of a game" and Crabtree shoved him away like a crying biatch.

Actually, I didn't have a problem with either player's behavior. That's just football. My problem is with the guy who clotheslined Jeremy Lane on the sideline.

I still can't tell if he did it intentionally or defensively. The video looks, to me, like he's moving out of the way but too slowly, so he braces himself.

We talk about this, not because we care about what this guy said, but because racists really want validation that they're "not racist" so they tell each other that.  A few of the more petulant of us go "nuh uh."  Which hurts their feelings some more, and they go around another Fox News roundtable about how the real racists are the ones who noticed racism.

Richard Sherman acted inappropriately. Argue all you want that it was adrenaline fueled or totally expected right after an NFL game, but there are countless interviews with people right after NFL games on the field and they don't yell and scream and denigrate opponents. That being said, what he did was not thuggish. He is engaging, intelligent, and very funny when I've seen him give interviews where he isn't playing "Richard Sherman the talking character" persona.

He is exactly right that people use "thug" to characterize someone and it is definitely based on skin color, dreadlocks, whatever because they can't say the n-word.

Also, Justin Bieber is a goddamn idiot that is allowed to do whatever the hell he wants because he is rich and famous and a popular 20yo white pop star.

----------
I can see why people would be upset with what Sherman did. However, you can be upset with what he did without resorting to labeling him a thug or using other dog whistle words to paint a picture that is not realistic. And, you can be upset with what he did without being racist.

On the other side, I can see why people do not have a problem with what Sherman did. Personally, I just had an issue with him attacking Crabtree. Everything else was perfectly fine and I didn't really care about the situation five seconds after the interview was over.

As for the difference in coverage, it is very striking, but I am not all that surprised. And, people that don't admit race plays a part in the difference in coverage are willfully obtuse.

2014-01-24 04:28:42 PM
They're only calling Sherman a "thug" because he's a member of a union.  All union members are thugs.

THIS!

It is what started it all.  I was watching the game like most people.  And I thought that was farked up.  Then I saw Sherman yelling at the camera (the reaction of the poor interviewer was priceless).  I honestly thought it was some kind of joke.  No one acts like that in front of the camera!
As it turns out, he really WAS pissed off, and had every right to be.  Was it unprofessional?  Sure.  But try winning the game that won the conference championship, and got your team to the biggest game of the year, and not have YOUR adreneline pumping like crazy.  I don't think he was really thinking professionally at that moment.

If the media is portraying him any differently, they are sorely mistaken.  I think it was actually pretty funny, what he did...

Beiber?  Self-entilted, spoiled rich, little brat, with abosolutely no resprect or regard for his position and the people that got him there.  Such to a point that he quite literally spits on them.

If the media are portraying him as just some misguided kid or something, they are SERIOUSLY at fault for not making him responsible for how he's acting.  I suppose it's going to take his actually physically hurting someone to get through to them.

2014-01-24 04:29:00 PM
Gotta be Bieber.

He is a total thug. He acts like he wants to black, but not like the ones you usually see on tv and the movies.

2014-01-24 04:29:12 PM
for a guy who supposedly is educated from Stanford he did not use any of those skills in the interview. He just came across as some loud mouth shiat talking dumbass.

So he wants to play the other people do worse scenario. Well here the thing. The NFL is made up of actual thugs, killers, rapists etc etc. So when Mr. GPA reduces himself to a mouthbreathing shiat talker EVERYONE is going to lump him in with the crowd that makes the NFL cringe worthy. He has only himself to blame. You only get ONE chance to make a first impression and he basically introduced himself to America by coming across as an asshole.

So is it unfair that Beiber gets a pass ? Sure but he also didn't introduce himself to the world as a shiat talking jerk.

It doesn't matter WHY he said the things he did, it was his delivery and timing.

I can't think of a nicer, more genuine time to tell someone "hell of a game" than just after you just beat him 1 on 1 killing his chances but with time still on the clock.  Does it make any sense in your head how Sherman went from kind gentleman shaking his hand and saying "hell of a game" to being an adrenaline jacked up guy talking smack in the interview?

Hell of an analysis you have there.  Hell of an analysis.

I think Scotty trolled you.  If I recall that scene correctly, Sherman doesn't appear to be saying "hell of a game".
Sherman's character may be questionable now but the real test will be when he gets a game-play beat down.
Suh is probably more of a thug than Sherman.

a) I've seen him say "helluva play" to guys (including Crabtree) when they've beaten him for catches before
b) I can definitely see how Crabtree would take it that way
c) Crabtree deserves to have it shoved in his face every day, and we should continue to mock him after his sorry-ass comments after the game about how Sherman "only made one play." YOU MADE ZERO. YOU'VE MADE ZERO IN YOUR ENTIRE CAREER AGAINST HIM.

Fark this "Sherman & Crabtree" crap. The fact that Sherman was excited and didn't do anything wrong has been established, as has the fact that Crabtree is an unsportsmanlike asshole, the reporter handled his exuberance well, and other sports writers & fans demonstrated the kind of racism that's become institutionalized in football.

The only question I care about is this: When do we deport Bieber?
