(The Daily Beast)   "The "gay mafia" has infiltrated the Swiss Guard." Why that's absurd. Have you *seen* their uniforms? Even blind gay guys refuse to wear that   (thedailybeast.com) divider line 40

In early January of this year, a former guard told Swiss newspaper Schweiz om Sonntag that he had been propositioned dozens of times by priests who lived and worked inside Vatican City.  One, whom the unnamed guard said was particularly brazen, allegedly convinced the guard to join him for dinner only to tell him that he should be "served for dessert," according to the Swiss paper.  The former guard also told the Swiss paper he had been manhandled by various clergy who were trying to bed him.

But it's the Guard that has a gay "problem?"

The whole "gays have style" thing may be a cliche but it's not always true. In my experience there's not much worse than the living room of two gay men with a bit of money. I could show you horrors...

I think that's a different issue.  Money doesn't guarantee taste.  Mom lives in a very wealthy neighborhood, and some of the houses and the way they decorate is just garrish.

Oh, just work in some glitter and fetish straps, and they'll be OK with it.

Anyway, what's the problem?  It's just like working at the Our Lady of Perpetual Perversions parish.

Whoa whoa whoa, you mean stereotypes don't adequately reflect reality?

Wait a second, the Voluturi are from Italy....

If you read any of the Myth series by Robert Asprin, there is a gay mafioso... he's the Fairy Godfather.

THIS.  Which is why there is basically nothing in our living room but a couch and a very large TV set.  You don't want my boyfriend and I remotely doing anything close to "decorating."

/and I'm color blind which doesn't help things either

They should have gone with beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, or white.
You know, neutral colors.

What, is a radical faction of them assassinating the pope tomorrow night? Don't they carry halberds?

You mean the Iranian dentist look? I know what you mean. You see it in restaurants and bars in various degrees of degradation or intentional kitsch.

It's like a generic Italian-Roma-Eastern European-Middle Eastern-Indian home without the taste of those chic Milan decorators who rock weird, wild and wonderful. You could call it Early Immigrant because it seems to be perennial in those lower middle or middle class suburbs where the latest influx of immigrants live when they switch from taxi driving to running a restaurant or dealing in real estate.

But get this: there is actually an interior design called the Heterosexual Look. It's your Mom's furnished basement from 1972. Oranges and browns, boxy Chesterfields rather than sofas, a lot of straight lines on fabrics and the kind of lamps you can only find at garage sales because they were never sold in stores. They just appear at garage sales like things from the dungeon dimensions invading Discworld. Nobody knows where they come from but they always go to garage sales and circulate forever from garages to drive ways to lawns to front yards to charity shops and so forth.

The idea that gay man are smart dressers is partly myth as well. Some are, after all many of them are young or youngish and have disposable income so they dress well, but an average of all gay men looks more like Dilbert than those Nazi youth in the designer magazines.

Forever in blue jeans, baby. Forever in blue jeans.

And I'm not counting line dancers or baseball players.

Years of observation from living on the edge of the gay village and downtown tell me that gay bashers dress like gay men did three years or more earlier, while gay men dress the way that black men and real trend setters or the floating population of young trend makers dressed a couple of months ago.

Fashion goes:

young penniless innovators and street people
trendy urban kids
gays, young
gays, middle aged
heterosexual waiters
fashion victims
wannabe innovators
bohemians and artistes
hipsters
Faux Bohemians
next year's fashions
this year's fashions
yesteryear's fashions
ironic
passé
retro
and back to the bottom of the heap for new inspiration. I think some of this stuff also appears from the dungeon dimensions. Fashion and art on Roundworld are like Magic on Discworld--weak spots where the things from outside creep into reality.

Maybe it's just because I've been binge-watching it on Netflix recently, but I totally read that headline in the voice of Archer.

Nothing sets off a white gown quite like a pair of red shoes.

Okay, I may be off the mark, but I'm pretty sure you are referring to the molestation.  If that is the case, please continue reading:
I know you were just making a joke, but it is seriously offensive to us gays when straight people relate homosexuality and molestation in any way.  It is just as disgusting for you (hopefully) as it is for us.  That is all.

Welll what did they think was going to happen when they tell people that something about them for which they have no control over is totally and completely evil in every  way and the only way to get away from it is to get closer to the church. They end up really close to the church  and, hey wadda ya know, they're still gay.  One day the Catholic church will be completely gay and people will be soooo confused about their anti-gay policies.

It's a pretty open secret that there are a lot of gay priests in the Catholic Church. This is anecdotal and not meant to be presented as evidence, but three priests from the parish I grew up in died of AIDS. Two were no surprise; the third was. Now, living in another city, I know two gay men who used to be priests.

The point is that the Catholic Church's treatment of gays in the real world varies greatly from parish to parish. Few parishes are openly supportive of gays, but in many parishes "don't ask, don't tell" or rather "we don't need to ask because it's obvious, let's just agree not to talk about it" is the rule.
