Yet the Catholic Church still has major sway in politics. We were the last New England state to approve gay marriage because of the power of the church. So, nice reporting you have there.

Knew there was something I liked about that town. Actually I've no idea what.

I just said "Yes."

How in the f*ck did I f*ck that up.

Holy crap. It feels like there is a church on every corner here in Cedar Falls. I feel bad for anyone living in more bible minded cities.

2014-01-23 11:37:26 PM
The study defines "Bible-mindedness" as a combination of how often respondents read the Bible and how accurate they think the Bible is.

I'm confused by this metric. What if the frequency of your reading it actually leads to your doubting its accuracy? Or, conversely, what if the infrequency of your even glancing in its direction is what allows for unwavering belief?

In any case, the study is wrong because the most Godless city in America is Cleveland. That has nothing to do with God, per se, but rather the fact that it's Cleveland. Atlanta is second, but it's quite distant.

Well, technically, there is a Rhode Island in Rhode Island... Unless my map was lying to me...

What about Detroit? This God fellow appears to have abandoned Detroit a long time ago...

Just to be clear: are we talking godless, or godforsaken?

Then they deserve the polar vortex, or whatever it is, and any other plagues and bad happenings which the Lord wishes to visit upon them. They can still save themselves, it's not too late, yet.

Someone needs to do a similar study but this time measure by accuracy of knowledge of things in the bible. Anyone can say they read it every day when they don't, and say they think it's accurate when they don't know what it says.

You know how every city has its own / certain smell?

Waterloo smells like oatmeal.

Exactly. Like. Oatmeal.

Godless Providence. Isn't that an oxymoron?

Hero tag indeed submitter! Look at all those brave atheists, just minding their own business at risk to their lives and livelihood, all so they can selflessly continue to be average Joes.

Yet, the area around Providence and New Beige have a high density of "Mary on the Half-shell".
Go figure...
I say OMG driving through both cities.

The east coast makes sense, because they're a bunch of left wing communists, but Iowa puzzles me. Maybe because they're all plowing down their corn fields and building baseball fields, but no one still comes?

So if you're not a Bible literalist then you're godless?  lols bullshiat fundy study is bullshiat?

Anyone who actually studies the text (or any religion) can tell you it's not very accurate.

Bullshiat. The Christian Holy Bible is the inerrant word of GOD Almighty Himself. It is 100% accurate. I can't speak for all the made up religions.

The focus on interpretation is the problem. It creates a sort of middleman. God's kingdom is in your chest. Now move along, Bible heads.

In my chest? Quick, get it out, I will sacrifice myself so you may all have access to his kingdom. Now I understand why Abraham was about to kill Isaac.

Good evening. Here is the news on Friday, the 27th of Geldof.
Archaeologists near Mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a
missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon dated in
Bonn. If genuine it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to
read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are
fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely
coincidental." The page has been universally condemned by church leaders.

If that loopy metric was used in the UK, the only "bible minded" places would be campuses filled with English majors at liberal arts universities.

Read the Bible within the last week for non-research purposes? I'd put it at 1 in a thousand in the UK.

Does reading bible quotes in Fark threads count?
If it does then most of us read the bible daily.
