Hello, Caturday peoples! I just wanted to say that Caturday has been a comforting Saturday ritual for a long time. No matter what happens throughout the week (and right now RL is kicking my butt) I can always depend on this wonderful, caring, quirky group to cheer me up, and continue my faith in humanity (I feel ya, RWDA). Hugs to everyone going through tough times, and a happy birthday to Valnt9!

I have a question that Lauluja might be able to answer: exactly how long has Caturday been a "thing" on Fark? My memory of it stretches back to about 2007ish. Any ideas?

Anyway, Jimmy is wondering why I feel the need to look at cats on the internets all the time when he is  right here.img.fark.net

Lsherm: Oh,  hopefully a happy Caturday for next week!  As some of you know, Miss Bob had to be put to sleep about three weeks ago because of renal failure.  Miss Bob:

She was sweetness personified.  That left Blue, the evil one, without a playmate.  Blue:

in his favorite place to sit, outside the bedroom plotting to kill us while we sleep (note the boots - that's to keep him from biting my leg):

So I went to an adoption fair and they had an extremely rambunctious male 1 year-old named Jasper they wanted to pair with an "active cat."  I figure maybe he can be a Mini-me to Blue's Dr. Evil:

Yeah, he has orangish eyes.  I haven't seen that before.  We've been going through the process for the last two weeks, we have the home visit tomorrow, and then I should be able to pick him up early next week.  My only worry is that they won't get along, but Blue likes other cats, just not humans :)  Jasper, for the brief time we spent with him, immediately took to biting whatever hand was in front of him, so this might be a match made in heaven.

Wish me luck, Caturdayers!  If it all works out I'll have a boatload of pictures next week!

ps - Funny story about Bob's ashes:  The company that handled cremation called me at work to find out what we wanted on the plaque for her wood box and I said "Miss Bob."  The woman asked "Oh, like you miss him?"  I explained that she was an outside cat when we adopted her and didn't find out her sex for two years, so we named her Bob, but when we found out she was female we always called her "Miss Bob."  There was a slight pause, and then the woman asked "You named a cat Bob?"

Yes we did, lady.  Yes we did:

[img203.imageshack.us image 850x637!

I'm sorry about Miss Bob.  :o(  I hope things work out with Jasper and Blue!  That is a very funny story re: the ashes!  For crying out loud, you can name your furkids anything you dang well want!  thbbbb!

I had a cat named Bob too...when I went back to my vet's office to pick up his ashes they said they had to send them back because they spelled his name wrong.  I stood there and said 'They spelled BOB wrong?  It is 3 letters, 2 of them the same....they spelled BOB wrong???'  Actually they spelled the last name wrong.  It still makes me laugh.

Remember the good times.  And the things that make you smile.  Your story will make you smile in a year or so.  Mine always makes me smile.

The mister and I got smacked driving back from NH last fall.  Dumbass in a big suv on her cellphone ran a stop sign; nearly t-boned my little Subaru.  Ambulance ride to ER (nothing broken - amazingly), then stranded 100 miles from home when finally released.  The first day we were just shocked and numb, but, holy fark, were we sore for the next week!  Adding more insult to injury, the other driver had no auto insurance.

Toonces says: "Eyes on the road and both paws on the wheel, numb-nuts!"

Anyone caught in those circumstances should have an automatic, minimum sentence of 1 month in jail (if no injuries) and a second instance should automatically be tried for attemped voluntary manslaughter or manslaughter.

Agree.  IMO, she should've been charged with driving to endanger, at least.  Because we were injured, the charge should automatically escalate to  aggravated driving to endanger.Been through all that before, but I'll spare you the story.  If cellphone use while driving results in a death, then YES, vehicular manslaughter should be automatic.

I love my cat. I really do.She does a really good job of keeping the house varmint free. However, I wish she would 1) Stop playing with her food and 2) stop bringing me live foods to play with. I mean I really appreciate the thought and all. And it's very sweet. I also really wish she would rethink her plan to bring her live foods to me while I am sleeping in my bed. I really appreciate the gesture but mouse with cat spit sauce is not on my menu of favorite snacks. She thinks it makes the perfect midnite treat, especially since I didn't even have to get out of bed to enjoy play-kill-eat time.  She then let it escape so she could hunt it all nite. In the bedroom. Of course. Because she wanted me to share in the fun. She is one thoughtful cat. She finally killed it about an hour ago and is now tenderizing it. Her method of tenderization is throwing the thing all over hell and gone. She is currently bouncing it off the ceiling and batting it like an All Star big leaguer. The look of pride on her face when it landed on my keyboard was priceless. It brought a tear to my eye (mostly because I was screaming like a little girl but that's beside the point).  Like I said, I really love my cat.

PS She is really mad at me now because I took it away from her.  I'm sorry, I really can't like the sound of crunching mouse bones. Nor do I like playing mouse head ping pong or squish the carcass with your toes.

Whenever I get up for even a moment, Tola will come claim my seat and then act like she's been there for HOURS and silly human, you can't sit there! Cool. Thanks for doing the research on that. I'm sure my last name isn't that difficult, but since I live in the south, I get every kind of spelling and pronunciation except the correct one most times. Other than having to spell my last name repeatedly, I love it down here :-)

Difficult German Name - I also peeked at your profile, and your German name is easy compared to the German name I married, which is Albrecht. I sympathize with the difficulty of Southerners in pronunciation of your name, however. I've been married for nine years and my Alabamian parents still can't pronounce my married name!
