spinach gunk: John Buck 41: spinach gunk: How's Buddy?

He's not too bad, thanks.  His appetite's still a bit weird, but nevertheless he's eating a healthy amount each day.  Still likes his prescription food (when he feels like eating that is).  Taking all his meds like a good boy.  Things still coming out the other end OK.  He doesn't want to do much walking these days, we only ever walk as far as the street / front garden of the building now, but there are still all kinds of people and things to sniff and bark at out there so I take him out fairly frequently for his amusement.

At night he "walks" with his nose and ears.  We go to the end of the path, stand very still, and for a few minutes we sniff/listen as far as we can to the east.  Then we turn around and do the same thing to the west.  Once we are satisfied that all the pertinent information has been gathered, we go home for a treat and a nap.

John Buck 41: Sickapie: Got an email last night from the superintendent of my daughter's school reminding parents to dress our kids appropriately during this cold weather.  Really?  I was going to send her today wearing her favorite gymnastics leotard, but thanks for the heads up, Captain Obvious.  Honestly.

My nephew is a teacher in Downeast Maine. They've had a bit more snow that we have had here and used up their allotment of 'snow days'. His school doesn't get out til 6/20, as opposed to the original end date of 6/6. Not to get all 'when I was a boy' but yeah, back in the day we needed a freakin' blizzard to cancel school.

A generation of snowflakes (no pun intended) is being raised. I fear for our future (and not just for this reason).

Yup.  Our school district is extremely hypersensitive when cancelling school, and they've used up all their allotted days as well.  When I was in school, it was almost never cancelled.

You would probably not be surprised at what I've seen kids wear in weather like yours....adult supervision is not always there, unfortunately. At least they're trying.....

Oh I hear ya.  The one kid I thought of was 2 blocks away who always wears a t-shirt no matter the weather and no coat. Mom walks him to school every day.  Looks to be about 8 yrs. old.   WTF??

WTF, indeed!  That's really sad, and infuriating.  Those parents are just asking their kids to hate or at least disrespect them when they reach adolescence.   The local elementary school has coats to lend.  It's a small enough community that the school usually gets them back.

Hello, everybuddy! I am glad to see we've got all good news so far, with wonderdogs eating and probationary periods passing by and people not being splattered all over the highway and stuff. YAY! and Conga-rats and general happy bounces and skritches and whatnot for everyone! Also, I think Predle needs to take the "kick me" sign off her car's bumper. That happens entirely too much to you, hon. Scary! Glad you're OK and I do count that as "good news", but it still sucks.

I woulda been in last night, but I decided to try the water marble technique for my nail art and it is messy and a tad time consuming, so I had stuff all over my hands and realized too late "CATURDAY IS STARTING AND I AM PRIMPING!!!". I was very disappointed in myself and my poor timing. However, I am very proud of the results and will try to get a pic later. This is my first attempt at what I usually see labeled an "advanced" technique and while they aren't totally perfect, they are still very much AWESOME. I'll also get better at it, so after a few more runs with it, my results WILL be perfect. YAY!

For those who don't know the water marble technique, these are not my nails (mine are longer and I cleaned up my cuticles much better - I'm incredibly fussy about that sort of thing), but that's about the same V-day appropriate color scheme I went with and what it looks like when it's done.

1.bp.blogspot.com

I gotta go clean the kitchen. Someone made a mess in there while I was out yesterday and I'm tired of looking at it. Maybe I'll make myself diet treats when I'm done. I'm not so good at this "diet" thing. :-(

Let me add to the good news folks. I missed caturday last week delivering two cats from a nice lady who passed away to her grandson. I spent a couple of late evenings at her assisted living place so the cats could get used to me then drove them "up Nordt" in a four hour trip that the cats were NOT appreciative of. However, they were very happy at their new furever home, and started exploring, using litterboxs, after an hour or so. I got an email from the grandson that they seemed happy after a couple of days. Kudos to the assisted living place letting the cats stay there for a week until they could be moved out without charging rent.

YAY!!! I LOVE nice stories like that! Kudos to you and the assisted living facility for your deeds! My faith in humanity is shaky at best, and the only reason it hasn't fallen right off the cliff into the chasm of dirty looks and "gods, you all suck" is because of stuff like that. It doesn't seem like much, but it really, truly is.

In my area I have seen severe differences in upbringings and I as well have a less than stellar view on my semi-urban area for the next generation. Some are awesome, but like the 14 year old who an officer was going to ask why he was not in school that ditched a gun that went off, had an arrest record at that age as long as your arm, I am seeing more and more of that due to disconnected parents. (The extreme far end, obviously). Income does not seem the issue, just the involvement of parents.

Hector is a water kittie. I have caught him splashing around in the water bowl and the toilet bowl, not trying to drink, just stick his front paws in and splashy, splashy.

Here he is at the sink. He tries to bite the water stream, then tries to catch it and licks the water off his paws. I need to get a Drinkwell 360 (eventualy when i can afford it) instead of using a mixing bowl for water. I think both cats would love it.

I was showing her the photo at my niece's house on the day, I had said I posted it on fark for something and she went nuts. "You posted that where anyone could see it?""How dare you." etc, etc.

Gremie has a water dish on the table that I refresh twice a day so that he has somewhere to wash his feet,
If he really wants a drink he uses Jack's dish on the floor. He usually tells me when Jack's dish needs to be refilled too.

Make vague attempts to edit at this point; long time mbr of local radio club died earlier this wk @ age 85. We were Greatly Remiss in not visiting while he still lived. This is not furrst time for this! Sometimes visits highly curtailed due to Rampant Bugs -- not this time. He Hoo Died hadn't been able to be active for Yrs, since his Lady Wife died. She at least was Feline Fan, got to see Furry & Sons if not quite GangOf5 in our garage, Ago. They've already been missed, didna go see him while he lived (we bad!).  He was very good guy, active in licencing classes when able.

Yeah, what lilyspad asked!  Did you get yourself checked out at Dr Tinycat's at least?  If you end up with medical problems later (sometimes it happens), you might need to establish a paper trail to prove that you aren't just trying to cash in on an unfortunate accident.  Especially when the insurance company has decided to be a dick about paying up.

Sorry to hear of the loss of any "radio club" member, be it a ham, an am-dx'er, scanner aficionado, etc. I am thinking at this point that I am the tag generation on those. While I am nowhere close to retirement age, the local radio folks I meet with are mostly in elderly homes or well past retirement ago.

I can see (and have seen) where income and education of the parents can impact the level of involvement with their kids, but you're right - it does come down to involvement. Growing up on the edge of SoCen LA I noticed very early on that kids who had no parents around - either at work all the time or 'out to lunch' for assorted reasons - tended to adopt backup family members, sometimes gangs. Other times they'd end up with families like mine who were pretty laid back, welcoming and well behaved (most of the time). It was almost always just a reaction to not having anyone else in their lives though. To think, there are entire tousanbajillion dollar studies done about that sort of thing and all they had to do is come over to my house for krumkakker and kaffe and ask "what the dealie-o, dudes?". I coulda told 'em by the time I hit jr high - if not sooner.

Oh gosh, I didn't see your original post. After my last accident. (A jerk late for his dr. Appoint was doing 120 in the fast lane, pulled into the slow lane not seeing me and totaled my car) I immediately emailed the driver's (now former insurance company) with my aches and pains, followed by a trip to the doctor the next day. Please do the same.... Four years later still in the court system looking for progressive to even pay a start on my medical bills. Fortunately, MetLife, my insurance co stepped in and covered most everything. Complain about any/everything, get yourself into a doctor for any complaint, etc. in my instance I required knee surgery. I did not think it was anything but a bruise at first.
