I think personally it's a dick move to have fundraising for criminal cases because of crap the person did in office

/regardless of political affiliations
//He can get a public defender like everyone else who can't afford it

Props to the Virginia GOP.  You not only made it to Terry McAuliffe somehow managed to become the governor, but now you've somehow made him the more ethical of the last two.  That's no small feat.

He's broke? That makes him a taker, not a maker. Have fun in prison, Gov. McDonnell.

Why should they? He already allegedly has an extra $165,000 or so.

Walker: They're making us VA taxpayers pay his legal bills. $575,000. Lovely.

Actually, in addition to not defending Virginia's anti-gay laws in court, Attorney General Herring is not paying for any more legal representation for McDonnell.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans. When Blagojevich went down for corruption, the dems dropped him like a sack of bricks.

Good for you VA Republicans. That's some swell company you keep.

apparently they've been broke for a while s'why they took the cash inthe first place (and we shouldn;t even ask how they managed to repay it with interest)

""Bob is screaming about the thousands I'm charging up in credit card debt. We are broke, have an unconscionable amount in credit card debt already, and this Inaugural is killing us I need answers and I need help, and I need to get this done" "

E-mail form First Lady Maureen McDonnell to Star Scientific president essentially demanding a designer dress for the Gov's Inauguration (and since Va govs only get one term, that means they were that broke from Day one_

It would be amusing if this guy hadn't been a viable GOP presidential candidate at one point and on several VP short lists

The author (Vozzella) of this article has been doing an amazing job on this story. She deserves a Pulitzer for staying on it and doing the work. It's old-school investigative-style reporting and I've been incredibly impressed with her.

McDonnell: 'I repeat again, emphatically, that I did nothing illegal'

Because staying within the letter of the law has become the most, rather than the least, we should expect.

Last night on msnbc someone followed Mrs. Ultrasound's pleas of poverty with a montage of the Governor repeatedly likening government budgets to household budgets.

Maddow on how this story developed.

They're probably worried that if they criticize McDonnell for accepting all of those gifts, the press will leap on that as an opportunity to point how many gifts they have received.

McDonnell may not have the personal resources to pay for his defense. After three highly leveraged and ill-timed real estate investments, the couple was "broke," as Maureen McDonnell put it in an e-mail cited in the indictment.

So, they're poor? Obviously they are not very hard working.

Yeah, they clearly have to be a bit less lazy. Get off your ass and pull yourself up by your bootstraps, Bob!

The article I saw a few days back had him at negative $165 or so in personal assets (noted, that was backing out his mortgage)

If you're feeling suicidal, you can give the bull a titty-twister.

Turtle on a fence post?

From the turtle's standpoint, the view from up there is stupendous.
