fusillade762: cman: fusillade762: Police say they do not know why Mr Colorado was cycling through such a dangerous area.

I'm going with "He's an idiot".

Do you say the same to rape victims?

If you are gonna blame the victim in this case might as well go all out

If a woman decided to unnecessarily enter a neighborhood where rapes were very common despite the fact that police felt the need to send TWELVE armed guards along with her I might.

I'd take the analogy a bit further.

I'd say she was wearning nought but a thong, carrying a sign that says "Disease free and on the pill" walking down Rapey Luther King Jr Blvd in the city of Rapeville (which is a suburb of Rapetropolis) in the country of Rapeistan. The town spokesman was the "You gonna get raped" guy who told her "You gonna get raped"

But they're European! Why would anyone attack them? They're not even American!

It doesn't matter where this happened.

The guy is a cyclist - of course, people will try to kill him. He's probably uploading some helmet-cam footage onto his blog as well speak.

JoelWhy: Cyclist Javier Colorado was slightly hurt after falling off his bike.

Oh, the humanity!!!

It's even worst, they couldn't show the condition of his bike shorts, because it might upset more sensitive hipsters.

He'll never forget the men who died protecting him, "There was good old, what's-his-name, and the guy with the thing on his head, and the other jolly fellow, who seemed laugh every time he saw me, and..."

Robert1966: This is a good test to see if yours is a first-world country. Do you have lawless, militant-held regions? Then you're out of luck.

/I guess our answer depends on how you define Michigan's detached peninsula.

zimbomba63: bhcompy: Rik01: A message on Facebook said he intended to continue his trip from Europe on into Asia and the rest of the world.

It takes a special type of personality to go on one of these global bike trips -- for whatever freaking reason -- through war zones and just accept the fact that folks get their shiat blown away so you can make some kind of statement or record.

I still can't fathom the personality it takes for civilians from the USA to vacation in a war torn nation, knowing that the chances are very high that (A) civilians may get killed around them as insurgents try and knock off the Americans and (B) they may as well have targets on their backs.

Such folks usually gush about how they like the people, the food, the culture while they duck bullets, have to get security forces to escort them about and, on at least one occasion, had the car they were in riddled with bullets.

Yeah. Makes me want to run right over to some dirt nation, squabbling over religious stuff, blowing up as many civilians as they can with suicide bombs and more than happy to kidnap or gut a tourist, especially one from the USA. Just because I like the ambiance.

I think such folks figure their passports give them actual immunity from being shot to pieces.

And never let a little thing like a bloody civil war along with genocide get in the way of your walking or biking trip across the globe because your statement is more important than the little things like folks wantonly slaughtering each other. Tweet and blog about it as you go.

why the fark are you blaming America for something a Spanish citizen is responsible for?

Well, somebody commented he might be working for the CIA, so more than one person hasn't got the part about him being from Spain and not the US, even when he's identified as a "Spaniard".

Pssst.  Sometimes -- just every once in a while, see -- a certain agency (I won't say which one) might just hire a person who isn't an American.  You didn't hear it from me though.

433: It seems rather inappropriate for him to continue his bicycle trip after 6 people died and 5 people were wounded escorting him.  That's just me.

But he was "slightly hurt after falling off his bike" so it balances out.
