Any guesses on how shocked this guy will be when they come for him with guillotines?

My Little Millionaire, Inequality is Magic.

Oh it's that guy from Shark Tank...hmm must have some new episodes airing soon.

It's fantastic, and this is a great thing because it inspires everybody, gets them motivation, to look up to the one percent and say "I want to become one of those people."

Aspirations. I've got some.

And, how skilled was his triumph of beating the other sperm to the egg?

I'm looking for $150,000 in exchange for 20% of my guillotine company. The hordes are coming soon, and they're going to need something to execute the elite.

I'm really hoping to get a deal with Lori, though. I thing these would be a great product for QVC.

"This is a great thing because it inspires everybody, gets them motivation to look up to the one percent and say, 'I want to become one of those people, I'm going to fight hard to get up to the top,' " said O'Leary, who's been dubbed Canada's Donald Trump and is also an investor in the reality show Shark Tank.

Missing the forest for the trees.  There's no fair playing field to make that possible.

Yes, it's natural to have people all across the income scale.  But the extreme and increasing concentration of wealth and shrinking population at one end, combined with the extreme and increasing concentration of population in the opposite end, makes it impossible to move from the lower end to the higher end.  The machinery is broken.

Yes, it would be nice to live in a country and economy where we can look to the successful and learn from them to advance ourselves.  But that's a fairy tale.

EyeballKid: And, how skilled was his triumph of beating the other sperm to the egg?

This.  EVERYTHING in life is accident of birth, from your upraising to your genetics.  It may all be pre-determined, but that's an argument for a philosophy class.  Nobody "deserves" a god damned thing more than anyone else does.

2014-01-22 02:30:27 PM
"Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again. That's never going to happen, OK?"

It already happens, most of the shiat on those investor shows are frivolous products that require a middle class and poor consumer base with discretionary spending so it isn't even a bad thing for your bottom line, squirt.

2014-01-22 02:33:00 PM
Not surprising for a guy who gave millions of people dysentery.

2014-01-22 02:33:37 PM
"That's the motivation everybody needs," O'Leary said. "Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again. That's never going to happen, OK?"

Well I certainly find this motivating. The fall of these people will be fun to watch.

/yes it will happen, your money can't buy your way out of historical cycles

2014-01-22 02:35:05 PM
"Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again. That's never going to happen, OK?"

You can have your wealth redistributed, or your wealth and your body parts redistributed.  Pick one.

2014-01-22 02:45:22 PM
Wow, what an asshole

2014-01-22 02:48:20 PM
Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again.

You know, right after the wealthy spent all that time, energy and legislation distributing it all to just a select few.

Can we give this reporter a Pulitzer Prize just for not punching him?

2014-01-22 02:51:15 PM
I'd be more outraged if it wasn't Kevin O'Leary. He gets paid to play an asshole on TV.

They probably won't come for him.  His kids, if any?  Maybe.

2014-01-22 02:52:02 PM
"Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again. That's never going to happen, OK?"

Really. And how many tax-adventageous positions does your company take advantage of, hmmm? How many credits do you claim every year, regardless of whether or not the statutory intent was to cover your business needs? How much lobbying have you done against raising the top rates or cap gains rates, or...

You know what? The entire CONCEPT OF CAPITALISM is "wealth redistribution", only it's about keeping as much of it for yourself as possible. Once you grok that, we can move on to "efficiency".

Oh, and how does that $10k in seed money loaned to you by momma feel? A bit like wealth redistribution?

2014-01-22 02:53:09 PM
8/10.  I would have added "Suck it, libs" to push it over the top.

Of course he thinks it's fantastic, he's part of it.    He also knows that his 'motivation' schtick is bullshiat, much like the infinite pie wealth theory that would be associated with such a mindset.

ThatGuyFromTheInternet: Can we give this reporter a Pulitzer Prize just for not punching him?

She's been co-hosting this show with him for years now. If she's surprised at all, it's just because it's a relatively new high on the Kevin O'Leary Bullshiat-o-meter.

I liked the anchor's reaction. This is what a real person realizing the person across from them is a sociopath looks like.

I wonder if he'll feel the same way when there's no middle class left for him exploit.

2014-01-22 02:59:06 PM
A good background on this guy for those that might not know who he is. Whether or not he's actually self aware isn't immediately clear (I've met him a few times, a lot of what you see on TV appears to be an act), but he certainly plays 'unapologetic rich guy' effectively on TV.

I watch the Lang & O'Leary Exchange and she completely makes fun of him when he spouts off on his ridiculous rich-guy shtick.  I don't even really believe it's shtick, I honestly think he believes the crap he says.

Lang will often just roll her eyes, say it's an idiotic opinion totally not based in reality, and then moves on.

Are you willing to drastically lower your standard of living (like, to a third-world level) in order that everybody on the planet is economically equal?

Pincy: Maybe he doesn't understand what "one percent" means?

No, he does. He just basically is saying he likes throwing a loaf of bread amongst starving people to see which ones can kill off the others for the food, because clearly they wanted it most. The survivors are his kind of people.

DrPainMD:

Bit of a moot question, really.  I could do that on my own, give away most of my money, and it wouldn't change the situation.  But no, I'm extremely thankful that I was born in the first world, that I am intelligent and resourceful, and that my parents raised me well.  That doesn't mean I DESERVE it though, I'm honest enough to admit that.

rubes say things like this because they don't understand that turds like this guy are always, constantly, non stop working to lower their own tax burden and shift it onto middle class and poor people.

I'll start by suggesting we swap the foreign aid budget with the defense budget.

I found this man repugnant ages ago. His 'schtick' on Dragon's Den nearly ruins the show for me. I don't believe he's acting. I think he's a sociopath. I will shed nary a tear should he meet a painful and soonish death. fark you 'mr. Wonderful'.

Thing is, you could evenly distribute the world's wealth and resources and within a few years you'd have wealthy and poor people again. Some people are stupid, lazy, unlucky, smart, driven, fortunate, or a combination. You'd to enact and ruthlessly enforce a system of pure Communism where getting ahead or behind anyone else is made impossible to avoid that outcome. Even if you created such a system, power would still become a form of wealth and those with it would enjoy a better life than those without. Inequality is as inevitable as gravity.

2014-01-22 04:23:47 PM
And the people complaining about it are poor. What's the point?
