We got a nice 12inchs here.. Just got in. Snow blower running like a champ.. I love the unintentional asshole feeling of exerting no effort walking behind my snow blower while everyone else in the neighborhood is having a stroke to hand shovel their sidewalk.. fark that... Snow blower  is one of the best investments...

Who needs propane when you have a rocket stove made of cement blocks?

cdn.instructables.com

/unless you want to heat your home with one...
/btw, that rocket stove is hopelessly overloaded and without an air channel underneath the wood
/rocket stoves are supposed to use little fuel not entire forests

I don't know if I agree with your summary conclusion, subs.  But I did like reading about New Hampshire blowing through $42 Million to pay people to sit around at Dunkin Donuts.

I called our Minnesota supplier over a week ago,and they still haven't shown up to fill our tank. Now, we're completely out, and have been able to keep things from freezing up with several electric heaters. I've called a couple of times, and yes, "I'm on the list, but you need to allow 10 business days for a delivery".  I can't wait to see my electric bill next month.

Propane is a byproduct of oil and natural gas refinement. As such it is difficult for the supply to expand to meet demand despite ample feedstock. It can not simply be pumped out of the ground.

Ugh, I had 209 gallons delivered last week in MD, $700 dollars.

If I catch someone cranking the thermostat up in the house they are going to lose a hand.

2014-01-22 01:52:25 PM
That's one thing that keeps me from getting a place out in the country--I much prefer natural gas that's been piped straight to the house for my heating and cooking needs, rather than something that has to be stored in a tank and delivered when everybody else needs some too, which can cause the price to fluctuate daily, rather than seasonally.

Natual gas outages can happen, but they're relatively rare compared to the near constant shortages of propane during cold snaps like this one.

We just had ours filled last week. $800. But our last visit from the gas man was last April. Since it's just my wife and I, we usually keep the theromstat between 67 and 69, unless the grandkids come over.

Why not just use butane?

Heating oil is the same animal. Lots of vendors and they all want to lock you into an annual contract so can't shop around, and if you don't do the contract thing, they jack the price by a few cents a gallon. I found I was still better off shopping around and paying cash, but it was a hassle: those guys are all out for as much as they can get.

I converted to NG last year. So far it's cheaper and cleaner. It's going to be bone-ass cold in NJ for the rest of the month so I hope there are no shortages.
