So 'hookah' isn't brooklyn-speak for hooker?

Then what is it?

/And is it hooker related?

Nice little snow flake she has there... I wonder how she terrorized her school teachers.

Uh.. lady if your house is so flammable that a lighter and/or matches would cause the thing to burn down, you have much larger problems than your daughter's hookah.

/maybe don't keep gas soaked rags inside.
//maybe keep an emergency fire extinguisher handy..

Hookah, crack pipe, it's all the same in reporting.

This is a boringly average family for Bradenton.

Ha...see you covered that.

I spent a week out on Ana Maria Island once.  It was lovely.  But having to cross by Bradenton to get there had me wondering where the hell I was going to end up.

Hookahs use coals that smolder for over an hour. They take nearly 10 seconds to stop sputtering IN WATER.

Not exactly an errant match.

If you have to take away a hookah from your kid because of fire concerns, I think your failure as a parent happened well before this.

A family on the street I grew up on had a real problematic son.  While he was 'away' after an 'episode', the family moved and didn't leave a forwarding address.  When he was released and arrived to see an empty, locked up house, he had a meltdown you could here 5 houses away.

Was it an assault hookah?

It's true. Lighted matches have never ever caused an accidental house fire.

Smoke alarms are also a corporate con.

this!

i've had 2 hookahs, and REALLY would love to get another one, but i was mainly waiting to make sure my son was old enough to know to stay away to keep it from burning him, and to keep him from knocking it over and burning down the house

Yeah, you don't want to get lost pretty much anywhere east of US 41.
My in-laws live on Anna Maria and we're just a stones throw away from the causeway to the island, so we're not anywhere close to the more "interesting" parts of town.
Used to run a wine shop in Palmetto, but that town is on another level of crazy altogether.

do you use a hookah because you can have a toke anytime you want, or do you not want to continuosly keep using a lighter or match? I guess I just don't know what a hookah is for, if your smoking weed i can see having a hookah, but if your smoking tobaca i mean cigarettes, i'm not sure I truly understand the hookah thing. If you have a hookah inyour house does your house smell like smoke all the time?

I don't see any of that, and I've never been to the Bradenton Herald website before.  Tried it with IE and Firefox.

You must just be unlucky.

Hookah is for tobacco as a big water bong is for weed. (Well, it really is just a form of water bong.) It's a social smoking thing, you don't exactly pass a cigarette around. It's a different, more loungey atmosphere, like pipe smoking, whereas social cig smoking is usually a lot more nervous. It'll last a whole movie, too.

There's very little cumulative smell, it's not nearly as strong as cigs or weed. That's a big plus until you get on the e-cig wagon.

the tobacco made for smoking in a hookah is combined with mollasses, and usually flavored. it's not directly lit, and the only possible smoke is from the coals used to heat the moist tobacco. you are inhaling vapor produced from the tobacco and the water in the bottom.

i don't have any first-hand knowledge of hookahs being used for weed. i suppose it's possible, but i would reckon a bong is better if you're going for vapor instead of smoke.

hookah "smoking" is relaxing, and can be very sociable...and it's perfect for watching tv/movie and lounging
