Under the Small BREW (Brewer Reinvestment and Expanding Workforce) Act, the current excise tax rate of $7 per barrel would be cut to $3.50. The tax applies to the first 60,000 barrels brewed each year.

Sounds good! A small company can get a break.

As of last summer, there were 131 licensed breweries in New York State. More than 100 are microbreweries, defined as having an annual production of less than 15,000 barrels.

Great, I like it, 15,000 barrels isnt a huge business and an actual small business getting a tax cut should be easy to cross the aisles with because Republicans pleasure themselves aurally with those words constantly.

The Small BREW Act also would cut the tax by $2 on the next 1,940,000 barrels produced.
Aaaand my love for this is over. because if you're making nearly two million barrels of alcohol, you're not a small company. You're no InBev, but you're not small.

Isn't a micro-brew considered up to 999,999 barrels? Why not to the top rate of the tax to that?

Wait, lowering taxes on small business helps small business?  Isn't that the complete opposite of what Schumer and the democrats always say?

Yeah, that would give Sam Adams a tax cut on about 80% of their barrels. They're not exactly a craft brewer at this point.
