Last Autumn I took a drive that went Silver City-Reserve-Quemado-Gallup-Zuni- St Johns AZ-Springerville AZ- Alpine AZ- Luna NM and back down south to Silver. It was awesome, people touring the southwest would be so better off if they left the interstate. Catron county was great, there's nobody farking there.

tnpir: Oh shut up, subtard, New Mexico is a beautiful state.

Heh. I'm certain it is.  I've heard great things about it.

I think subby may be like me, however, who has only driven on I-40 from one end to the other (west to east/east to west).

City...WIND WIND WIND MY GOD THAT BIKER'S DRIVING SIDEWAYS!....Casino....WIND.....Casino...WIND!...Casino...WIND!...Casi no.....WIND AGAIN!?!....City....Pretty!...Oh, we're in Texas.

That's during the day... at night, replace the "WIND" with "DRUNK DRIVER" and that's the passerby's experience with New Mexico along I-40.

Not saying it's the correct perception, obviously, but that may be the only experience he/she has had.

The land is very beautiful, Albuquerque is fun to visit, Santa Fe is artsy, Taos has its Earthships...but people who actually live in New Mexico tell me there is a lot of despair outside of those privileged places.

Despair and cops who will anally rape you with the help of doctors.

Go onnnnnn.

My friend grew up in Quemado :)

Instead of driving around the Gila, drive through it. Take a good map & pay attention to the roads, quite a few are "High Clearance Vehicles Only".

Trivia time: That bridge (pictured above, just north of Taos) is where they filmed the wedding scene between Mickey and Mallory in Natural Born Killers. It's a gorgeous piece of engineering, and there are some awesome views of the river as you walk across. Yeah, it's got sidewalks.

r1niceboy: gilatrout: r1niceboy: New Mexico is indeed pretty, and if you're lucky, you'll live somewhere there with a good view and far enough away from everyone else in the state that you don't have to interact them.

Especially the ones that live in Rio Rancho. ;)

I know, those people suck.

That's because they're all transplants from New York.

Just moved out to the Midwest last summer, and I'm looking forward to getting back to Albuquerque for a visit next month. Green Chile withdrawal is rough...

Yeah I made it about 100 yards out and turned around.

I used to work with a dude who moved to CA from New Mexico.  If most New Mexicans are like him then it must be one screwy ass state farkin state.

He and I were once discussing our weekend activities after returning to work on Monday and he told me that he went to a bar to see if he could score some "flat cock."  After seeing the look of confusion on my face he said, "what, you Californians don't like pussy?"  Once I asked what in the hell "flat cock" was and what it had to do with pussy he looked stunned that I hadn't heard that term and told me that "flat cock" is the term what everyone in New Mexico uses for pussy.  Da fark is with that?

Thanks everyone for sticking up for New Mexico!
It IS a beautiful state.

Too bad this judgement is 20 years too late, my brother-in-law's brother had to just languish and die on his own from AIDS in UNM hospital.
