According to the article he's been doing this for eight years. For some reason I think I've seen these pictures since i've been on Al Gore's intertoobs. Or maybe i'm just old & time flies.

Cool?  Yes.  New?  Hardly.  I've had something like this:

...since I was a wee little kid.  In fact I think it's around here somewhere.

danielscissorhands: As opposed to old cans of New Coke?

I actually enjoyed New Coke, though a flagship product it was not.  Original Coke needed to stay as it was, and New Coke should have been a specialty item, like Cherry Coke.  It kind of was, actually: they used to sell it as "Coke II" clear into the 90s.  Was a staple of many a lunch for me as a kid.

I don't know about Coke cans, but the coolest use for beer cans is as a container for beer.
The models are cool, though.

I always wondered how those were put together. Do you solder the aluminum together, or is it just some sort of glue? Whenever I've looked at one, it doesn't look like they cut tabs or slots to hold it together, so I figured there must be some sort of adhesive used.

You are indeed correct: model airplane cement and/or contact cement for can-to-can bonding - 5 minute epoxy for wire-to-can joints.  Lots of information, plans, etc. at  http://www.bcair.com/Home/index.htm

Did nobody else grow up at the local dirt track?  There was always a guy selling beer cans made into sprint cars next to the gate.

The coolest use of old coke and beer cans I've ever seen was in Thailand. Phuket? Definitely.

Perhaps it was Jalopnik December 3rd, 2009?
