Beeblebrox: "If you can't go greek, go TKE.  If you can't go TKE, go home."  was what they used to say in the '80s at my school.  Seems things haven't changed much.

Man having worked at a pr0n shop the phrase "going greek" just doesn't really mean the same thing to me as it does to other people anymore.

In poor taste and worthy of public scorn? Absolutely.

An official statement from the university said ASU has suspended the chapter's operations and will take "additional action against the individuals involved."

Total bullshiat.

Tekes are well known for their hilarious, cutting satire. Here, the false layers upon the false until a thickness accumulates that is convincing of a certain comical, circular truth. What has actual value here? What doesn't? And who says? These are young people experimenting with their craft.

Ha! I dug out Apocalypse '91 on Sunday just because MLK Day was coming.

I wonder if I tend to listen to more King's X near Easter?

Danzig near Halloween?

Young college douchbags throw questionable and offensive parties. News at 9, followed by a new study that answers the question "is water wet?"

Not on college grounds, not a college event, not the college's problem. You don't like it... write a letter to the kids involved.

The party theme is awful and they should be ashamed of themselves for that.  However, a watermelon cup sounds awesome.  Sort of a like how you make spiked watermelons for barbeques, but in a personal sized variety. You could make up a punch that would be awesome with watermelon, too, to go in there.    Not something I'd want to drink all the time (or in January, really it seems more of a summer thing), but could be fun to try out now and then.

2014-01-21 03:15:25 PM
Gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.  But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Fark - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

Don't be so sure - ASU has turned into a pussy-whipped Brady Bunch version of the University I went to in the 80's.  I have no doubt that there is some "Embrace diversity" codicil in the Student Rules Pledge (or whatever it's called) that can, and will, result in the identified students being sent to a mandatory meeting with a disciplinary official.

You can get kicked out of school if you don't turn your roommate in for drinking - yes, really.

fredklein: Stereotypes dont become stereotypes because they are completely untrue.

Of course, they aren't always true, either. Duh. But there is a reason they are stereotypes.

You mean the stereotype that Arizona State students are really stupid, and that frat bros are overprivileged assholes? Yeah, those aren't completely fair, but there's a reason for those stereotypes.

This is what I'm thinking - cut a hole in the top, and fill it up with rum or tequila.  Cool it down, then open the hole up, and use one of those hand blenders to puree it. That could be some kind of awesome.

Holy shiat!  People still live in Flint?  I figured it was like Picher, OK by now.

Yes, people still live in Flint.

The event was canceled, thankfully... given the event, I suspect this spared the police from having to respond to some brawls and a shooting. The venue owner took the opportunity and publicity to offer a more respectable memorial event on Sunday.

Fun fact: Flint is home to the original 80-person Chuck E. Cheese riot.

I think Americans are just bad at holidays.

We celebrate the birth of Christ at the wrong time of the year by visiting a fat guy in a red suit and watching an animated snowman on TV.

We celebrate his death and resurrection with an bunny bringing chocolate candy and colored eggs.

We celebrate St. Patrick's Day by wearing green and getting drunk

and we celebrate our fallen heroes on Memorial Day by going to the beach.

Why shouldn't we celebrate MLK day by getting dressed up like extras in a Wreckx-n-Effect video?

Big Beef Burrito: Little Known Fact: Dr. King once challenged Dr. J. and his homies to a game of pickup basketball and shattered the glass backboard at the Y, earning himself the nickname "Chocolate Thunder".

Afterwards, he served both teams pancakes. Everyone has a great time until the PTA turned the fire hoses on them.

[assets.espn.go.com image 412x506]

You know who was the first guy to shatter a backboard in an NBA game? Chuck Connors, star of "The Rifleman," while playing for the Celtics in 1946. True story.

1/10. When non-Irish people start running around New York hitting people with shillelaghs and conducting mock lynchings of black people on St. Patrick's Day, then you're getting close to equivalence.
