I love "Sherlock", but what would be the point of the movie, unless it were something like 6 hours long?  Isn't each episode essentially a movie?

So it would just be an episode they'd put in theaters, then.

I hope it turns out like the Dr. Who TV movie.  Sherlock in America.  With explosions and stuff.

Yes, the difference would be in the paychecks.

What a silly idea. People have already seen and liked a Sherlock based movie; the appeal to a general audience would be low. People who already like Sherlock will probably not like it. The movie would need to be dumbed down to set up the movie for a general audience. Also, without any big explosions, car chases, excitement, the appeal to a general audience will be even lower as Sherlock gets its strength from strong back story, nuances, and small details which tie into a larger arc that usually takes 2 other episodes to complete.

They will just shoot it as a trilogy in New Zealand then. BOOM!

Make Irene Adler a major character and I'm there

What a great idea!

They should put a big star in the lead role, maybe that guy that played Chaplin way back.

I know the British love short tv seasons but Sherlock's three episode seasons is taking that to a whole new level.

It would be cool if next season they have Fathom Events do a theatrical simulcast of the episodes like they did with the Doctor Who 50th. It wouldn't require anything special, but would still give fans a chance to come out and watch it on the big screen if they want.

T-Shirts! Posters! Action figures!

Toilet Brushes! "Say no to shiat, Sherlock"

My wife and I just finished watching series 3 last night. I love the show, and I'm glad they went with quality over quantity. I don't care if they only churn out 3 episodes every couple of years; if they're good. I'll wait.

I won't spoil anything, but it might be cool to have a 2 or 2.5 hour movie to resolve the villain revealed at the end of series 3.

2014-01-21 02:43:15 PM
Huh.  I wonder if there has ever been a Sherlock Holmes movie.

I'd love to see a movie that covers what Sherlock was doing during the two years in which he was dismantling Moriarty's network.

Well here's a little seven-minute mini-episode by Moffat and Gatiss that kinda/sorta/in a way answers that question.

Pffft, whatever. The only Sherlock movies that ever needed to be made were made with Robet Downey Jr. This Bentdick Cucumbersnatch kid is about as talented as Hayden Christensen. They both have that same "act" of staring at the camera and speaking in a monotone.

Three hours of Watson declaring "We're not gay actually".

I want to do my variant of The Return of Sherlock Holmes, where after Reichenbach falls he really is dead, but Watson forms him up like a Tyler Durden alter ego. Which is entirely doable from the story, because when Watson meets Sherlock again no one else is around and aware of Sherlock for a good chunk of the story.  Just imagine the hallucinogenic madness your could play around with as Watson goes mad, tracking down clues and suspects, committing violent acts while blacked out and offering Sherlock's help in uncovering the perpetrator.

So what if sherlock is already a made for tv movie, i would not mind one being 2, maybe 2 1/2 hrs long

Oh man, and then you also have Tim from the Office (UK), and Bilbo Baggins as Watson. Now there's a guy who can only do that one-character-for-all schtick.

Those movies were terrible and about as much about Sherlock Holmes as Austin Powers was about James Bond.

But have fun posting sexy RDJ pics for the benefit of the other ladies around here

Sherlock Holmes was meant to be serious literature.

Moopy Mac: Sherlock Holmes was meant to be serious literature.

Was it really?  It was run in serial form in The Strand magazine, which was like the Atlantic Monthly here: a popular magazine for the educated middle/lower-middle classes.
