"Enjoy your Palestinian blood cocktails," the left-wing reporter said to the vodka drinkers.

Bullshiat. I live in Somerville MA, and my soda stream came from an apartment of academics, and artists in Harvard farking Square, and no one has ever said anything like that.

One person we know doesn't have one because he doesn't like the company's politics, but no one I have ever met- and I was once in a vegan lesbian book club with people who used their own menstrwl blood as plant fertilizer- would say such a ducking thing.

SodaStream is an Israeli company with a manufacturing plant in occupied territory in the West Bank, a fact that enrages a politically informed, far-left segment of the liberal-yuppie demographic the product is marketed to.

Who then get so mad they blog about it on their handcrafted artisan-probably-Navajo-made iPads which are totally not made by slave labor in the far east.

2014-01-20 09:55:40 PM
I have been thinking of buying one, any farkers want to say yea or nay?

Difficulty: I only drink diet soda and find most of them to taste nasty.

Diet coke, diet dew and diet dr pepper are OK.

Because they're really not politically informed. A lot of folks put up a good show to impress others.

You are a rare breed. Most engineers I know can't find their asses with both hands, much less operate any kind of machinery more complicated than a dinner fork.

"A lefty journalist friend of mine in Tel Aviv has a machine he keeps under his kitchen sink so that he doesn't get embarrassed when other lefties come over for dinner,"

Who the heck actually talks like this?

"Boy, I'm so glad I'm a lefty.  I think I'll go hang out with my lefty friends at our lefty cafe and read lefty magazines while sipping lefty lattes.  Lefty."

Some people just don't like it when Israel is involved in something. These people are typically anti-Semites, but I'll give these libs the benefit of the doubt and just refer to them as anti-Zionists (IOW, anti-Semites).

The company is in a Jewish settlement on the West Bank. They're displacing Palestinians, not hiring them.

Article's author sounds whiny. Must be those Stoeffel genes goosestepping through her veins.

FYI, Sodastream hires a lot of Palestinians. Would Frau Stoeffel  want them to be unemployed?

Non carbonated blood, like the rest of us.

Blood bubbles kinda sells the product.  It's catchy, easy to remember, and the jingle potential is limitless.

Shostie: People still use those things? I thought they all got regifted.

My wife likes it, and during the holidays it works great to make healthy fizzy drinks for the kids.

Bought an adapter so I could use a 5lb CO2 bottle. No, not because of the Israeli contention. Nope, it's just cheaper to use the machine. Couple bucks of brass, a new bottle from the local bulk distributor, and refills are a couple bucks in a regular soda CO2 bottle. The same kind of container you'd get for a small home soda dispenser.

Shameless plug for the brass I bought.

I looked into getting one a while back, my conclusion was it was way more expensive than buying soda in 2 liter bottles. Around here Coke goes on sale regularly at $1.25 - $1.50 and store brand typically sell for $0.89. The problem with soda stream is, you're not getting name brand soda so it's more appropriately compared to store brands. The thing is, you have to buy the syrup, CO2 and even the plastic bottles from them.

I drink diet Coke but recently I've been buying Walmart's Sams Choice diet cola, it's not exactly Coke but for 89 cents I'll live with it.

Last year 39 Palestinians died by Israeli forces directly.  Six Israeli's died by Palestinian attacks.

Don't most US cities have higher murder rates than this?

New brass, 5lb co2 bottle from a local distributor, and use syrups from other sites.

I haven't calculated it, but I wager I can make cherry soda for less than cost than you can buy in a can.

I only use the "Sparkling Naturals" line of Sodastream syrups or the Torani brand ones with real sugar. I never liked the Sucralose in the regular Sodastream syrups. If you're into diet, it might be for you.

And yes, I like my Sodastream very much. Using the SN Country Time lemonade syrup, I can either low-carb it to make a replica of Rondo, or full carb fizz to make it a Lemmy.

www.gunaxin.comwww.sodapopstop.com

Just keep in mind that the syrup can run about $6 - $10 for about 6 1-liter units of soda, and there's the gas cannisters of c02 to buy (fortunately, most stores that carry the gas cylinders will swap them out for half the regular price for a new full tank).

In other words, if you're a Super fat Ass that guzzles buckets of soda all day, this will get expensive. But if you only want soda once in a while, this is good. You really won't even need the syrup if all you want is sparkling water with some lemon juice in it. A little plastic lemon of juice is only what? Two bucks?

This kind of crap is for people with absolutely nothing to do. You can buy generic store-brand club soda at any grocery store for pennies per glass. If you entertain a lot and want to save even more time, you can get a real soda fountain setup and commercial CO2 canisters like they have in every bar and restaurant in the civilized world, then just push the button on the gun. No pretentious douchebaggery involved.

tears, you insensitive clod!

That said:

Soda Stream: $80-130 or more, plus proprietary containers for the resultant product as well as proprietary 2-pound canisters of CO2.

DIY Seltzer: ~$150-200, including a standard 20lb tank of CO2 (which will damn near least you forever), and you can use any plastic bottle with a twist-on cap (i.e., re-use a 2-liter soda bottle).

Hurm. Choices....
