(Daily Mail)   I don't know how much 50p is, but there is no way I would drive across a semi frozen river to avoid paying it. Some dude in China is just that stupid though   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 97

When asked why he drove across the Yellow River, the driver was heard to say "Got no time for explanation, got no time to lose."

In all honesty, that looks a hell of a lot safer than what the Chinese guy was driving on.

Yes, I read the book about that river by I. P. Frehly.

I don't know how much 50p is...

50p is short for 50 pence. 50 pence is slightly more than 49 pence, but not quite as much as 51 pence. I hope this helps, subby.

Thank you for my laugh of the day:

Because the road is unsafe and unofficial, it is not patrolled by local police. Likewise, the Department of Transportation has no jurisdiction to close the road, as it isn't an actual road.

Really, Canada? If Americans just started randomly driving through fields and frozen lakes, our safety bodies would find some way to regulate it.

Nope not me, that's why when I'm in Toledo and have to go to Windsor I skip Detroit and go to Buffalo to be safe!

(Of course I never go to Toledo or Detroit or Windsor for that matter) See safe!

It's a lot more likely that everyone they asked uses the road and didn't want to drive around so they stonewalled the reporter who was asking about it.

Actually, 50p is about $0.80, give or take a penny due to constantly fluctuating exchange rates.

I don't think you CAN drive across a semi-frozen river, subby. Maybe part way across, like this guy, but not all the way across. It needs a fully-frozen river for that.

China has some crusty ice.

Well, if we take the x coordinate, the y coordinate, and then we add a z coordinate, something interesting happens.

Bodies of water that have strong currents or wave action don't form smooth ice. The form of ice shown in the article is called "pancake ice".

My girlfriend's family is from a small town in upstate New York. She says about once every year or two, some kid will be doing doughnuts in their car on one of the lakes in the area and will fall through the ice.

if that unit of measure is in reference to the Governor of Indiana, then even 50 or 51 of them don't amount to much at all... however if anyone wants the 1 pence that we do have I'll gladly let them have him.  go ahead, take him. please.
