While, Scheider on One Day at a Time tattooed the names of Bonnie Franklin's kids on his body, but they never really talked about that on the show. It was deemed too creepy for a TV audience.

And then people wonder why Mackenzie Phillips went all cray cray.

Another entertaining episode of our lives from Brantgoose's warped alternative world.

Well, nothing to do but completely dismantle the social safety net because some tried to cheat the system. It was nice while it lasted.

Technically landlord and boyfriend are not mutually exclusive titles. Technically.

But I thought welfare fraud never happened.

Lawyer or no, this is worth knocking a year off their sentence if he managed to say that with a straight face.

This butt-twang landlord apparently does not realize that ages CHANGE every year.  What a dick-head.

Yeah. He could always say that he was renting to his ex o make sure his kids had someplace to stay. But I'm also sure that the amount of assistance money she received was based on how much child support he provided, and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that she claimed he gave none. So even that plan would blow up.

Victoria Tracey, 33, and Andrew Kenny, 39, took their two young children on luxury cruises after swindling £55,000 in bogus housing and income benefit claims.

I don't think welfare scammers in the US steal that much.

I feel that getting tattoos of their tenants children's names is what separates the good landlords from the great landlords.

Just because he's the father of her kids doesn't mean he's not her landlord.

I really don't see the legal distinction here.

When I was younger I purchased a house.  I paid for it.  It was my house.
I later became a live-in landlord, when someone else moved in.  It was still my house.  They paid me rent.  I didn't consider us roommates, we didn't share the house equally, they rented a room from me.

I later started sleeping with said tenant.  It wasn't prostitution - she still paid me rent.  Did I magically because 'not' her landlord at that point?

Later we got engaged.  She still paid rent.
I still owned the house.

To The Escape Zeppelin!: Just because he's the father of her kids doesn't mean he's not her landlord.

Did he claim the rental income for tax purposes?

Is the a British equivalent of the GoP to use this story to marginalize and degrade everyone on welfare?

The problem is that he is the father of her kids. I'm sure she was getting government assistance based on the fact that she said the father of the kids wasn't paying support and she didn't know where to find him. If he is her landlord, then she knew where to find him and should have filed for child support from him instead of getting it from the government.

another problem. was the government money going to paying her rent?  or going to their mutual benefit?

What is with the profoundly poor tattooing the names of their children on their bodies? Is it like crib notes? Do they forget the names and/or birthdates of their offspring? I have no tattoos, but think they can be beautiful. So this is not a 'tattoos are trashy' post. I think they can be a legitimate form of art uniwuely displayed on skin. What I don't understand is the need to memorialize the name of someone you can't or won't fully support financially. Seems to make more sense to me to apply the money spent for a tattoo to the care of the child. Or, in other words, I don't spend money on art -- whether good or bad -- when my children need food, clothing, or shelter.

FTFA: Defence counsel, Phillip Tully, said Tracey was a "respected member of the community" who took full responsibility for her actions.

Non-UK Farkers may care to note that "respected member of the community" in Liverpool equates roughly to "habitual criminal".

The legal distinction (I assume) is that your fiancé wasn't claiming UK Housing Benefit on the basis that she was a single parent.

Niiiiiiice. I'm sure if I hooked up with my tenant she would use it as an excuse to stop paying rent. She is a friend but a damn pain in the butt at times.

I think this is a bit like those cases in Utah where the feds throw polygamists in the pokie for welfare fraud. Where wives #2-5 and kids 5-23 are all collecting welfare.  Reading that article, it's unclear what the actual charges were.

Far as I know for instance if you have an adult child who is disabled and over the age of 18, they can collect SSI and you are entitled to charge rent. Certainly the rent needs to be counted as income, however you can offset that by prorated maintenance and depreciation on their share of the home.  Also totally true that your unemployed live in GF can collect welfare and food stamps, even if you yourself are wealthy. (Makes you a dick, but not criminal)
