(Bleacher Report)   One Seahawks fan possibly could have thrown around ten pieces of popcorn down on Navarro Bowman as he was carted off the field. This naturally means all Seahawks fans are the worst people ever and that Peyton Manning will be on Mount Rushmore   (bleacherreport.com) divider line 358

Cletus C.: robsul82: Cris Carter getting all brusque on Mike and Mike after Baldwin namechecked him for allegedly "disrespecting" the WRs was pretty amusing, if you get the chance to hear that.

"Doug Baldwin, really?  I'm not the guy you want to get in that with anyway.  Man, I don't care nothing about Doug Baldwin and what he thinks. The reason why they gave Percy Harvin all that money is because they didn't think Doug Baldwin could make no plays.  You want to keep it real?  That's what it's all about.  Google me, see if I'm in the Hall of Fame."

Oh great. Carter's incessantly whined about deserving to be in the Hall of Fame and they finally put him in, probably just to shut him up. And he's already playing that card. Baldwin is about to pass him on Super Bowl appearances.

My thoughts were A, funny/true, B, regardless Doug Baldwin stands a pretty good chance to get that ring NFL Films did a whole special on your '98 Vikings not getting, lol.

You do realize what people say in moments of adrenaline and what they say later are the result of two different mentalities.

Nevermind that Sherman graduated #2 in his high school and is a Graduate of Stanford.  Stanford.....they do not exactly graduate idiots at Stanford

Caveat: #2 in a high school in Compton.

Caveat 2: BA and Masters in Communication, aka "the football major".

He completed an MA? Instead of going into the NFL?

I'm not sure that counts against him.

I'm not sure if he completed his masters, but I know that it was reported that he was working toward it. Continuing at Stanford after graduation and being drafted into the NFL certainly is not any kind of black mark on his record.

I remember as a kid growing up that I heard the phrase the 12th man used frequently when describing Seahawks fans.  This was in the 80s.  It just wasn't something that was trademarked, or, if it was, it was loosely enforced.  It was only when Seattle started selling "12" products that I think A&M got upset about it.

A&M trademarking it in 1990 was a genius move on their part.  The phrase had been around for dozens of years before that.

What does it matter where the high school was at? Are you saying inner city high schools can't produce smart people? Let me guess, you wen to the best high school in the country. Obviously you didn't because if you did you wouldn't have attempted to use where his high school was located in an attempt to show that he is truly dumb.

IIRC, the Seahawks retired the number 12 for the fans in the 80s. Maybe it was just a Ring of Honor induction thingy, though.

It's pretty funny that he did this a day before a Beats commercial drops with him in it dealing with reporters basically asking him all the stuff they're going to be asking this week. And that the choke symbol was taken from Kaepernick's own Beats ad. BTW, dammit Sherm, haven't you noticed how poorly the Beats ads are working for the guys involved? Kaep's 0-3 in the stadium where he's supposed to be overcoming the fans. Garnett's in the worst season he's had for a horrible team.

Digitalstrange: well that and the fact that they are still defending Sherman's asshole antics, not to mention they were whining about their last Superbowl loss for over a decade leads me to Subby's conclusion about them, even if I don't agree about Manning.

Amazing. Another non Seahawks fan bring up the 2005 SB. One would think if they claim to be so tired of hearing about it, they would stop talking about it?

Having read the back story between Sherman and Crabtree, then Sherman's comments don't really bother me. I wouldn't have said it but I don't have that type of personality. They are two guys who don't like each other. It's kind of refreshing to hear someone caught up in the moment and not being PC. Had Crabtree made the catch and won the game over Sherman, I wouldn't have been upset if he called Sherman overrated. Then again, I find words more amusing than hurtful.

Back when Dallas was on their run in the 90's, Irvin used to say all kind of things. He's said a big reason was because he enjoyed it but it was also his job. A lot of his teammates weren't comfortable talking to the media so he figured the more brash he was then the more media time he got which allowed the other players to be left alone.

Sherman just took a big chunk of the SB media circus and put it on his self and away from his teammates who might not like talking to the media. (Lynch)

I don't understand Crabtree's comments. He said to watch the tape, Sherman didn't do anything. I would argue the opposite. They threw his way twice and one was an interception. Seems to me that's his job and he did it well.

Crabtree should be more upset with his performance. People talked all week about how a healthy Crabtree would make SF's offense way too powerful for Seattle's defense. I didn't understand how because Crabtree hasn't really done anything against Seattle. He averages less than 4 catches, less than 50 yards a game and has never scored a touchdown.

I loved that they showed Kaep getting off the bus and walking into the stadium in the pregame and there were only 2 stadium employees in the background of the shot. There are no frothing hordes greeting teams as they get off the bus at the CLink.

The only part that I'll take umbrage with is it being run with through the media as "Seattle fans were throwing food at him" which is technically accurate but framed in a way to make the fans look way worse than it was. I mean, a) it's popcorn. When you say food, you're thinking nachos or something that's going to hurt/be disgusting. and b) not that it excuses the intent, but almost all of it went on the guy walking him in, who was from the Seattle area.

It's an overreaction kinda like Joe Buck going apesh*t on Randy Moss' fake moon a while ago. Yeah, someone did something dickish, but there's a difference between one person throwing a handful of popcorn in the direction of a player and framing it as "Seattle fans pelted Bowman with food."

/also, let's release the tape and shame the fan that threw it

Oh yeah, I don't even care about the stupid whining from people about how it makes Seattle fans look far meaner than everyone else - but I'd already seen the KG ad so I knew what they were going for.

I just think it's funny that they'd pick a place he'd gotten embarrassed. And a team that had a good chance of continuing to do it.

whizbangthedirtfarmer: Sherman has apologized, according to ESPN.

"Obviously I could have worded things better and could obviously have had a better reaction and done things differently," he said during the interview. "But it is what it is now, and people's reactions are what they are."
Later, Sherman issued an apology in a text to ESPN's Ed Werder.
"I apologize for attacking an individual and taking the attention away from the fantastic game by my teammates... That was not my intent," Sherman said via text.

Wow. I really didn't see that coming. Must have had a nice meeting with the team brass.

Well, Carroll said it was a priority to talk to Sherman, but I think after he came down from the adrenalin and everything after the game, he started to get a little upset about it.  Sherman almost always calls out Kam, Maxwell, and Earl, and I think he realized (or was told) that he was detracting from their performance.

Love PDX - great food and even better beer, no sales tax (yeah I know WA has no state income tax), easily walkable downtown, more affordable reals estate/rentals than Seattle, 30 minute drive to the gorge, hour to drive to Mt. Hood, 1.5h drive to the coast, nice airport with quick and convenient train ride to downtown where it drops me off 3 blocks from my apartment, did I mention awesome beer?, less rain per year than Seattle, easy bike ride anywhere I want to go in the city.

Well no, they mostly discovered him after the Twitter "feud" with Revis, with everyone ignoring that Revis was hurt and wouldn't be as good as he once was, while Sherman just continues to get better despite already having better numbers than Revis.

You're not going to get endorsements as a defensive player just via your play on the field. Matthews and Polamalu have them because of their hair. Lewis had a TON of antics. Can you think of other defensive players to recently get big endorsement deals? JJ Watt does the NFL 60 stuff, but hell, who knows if the NFL even pays for that?

As for the roughing the punter penalty people wanted called, here's the rulebook.

Show me anywhere it says "Plant leg 15 yards, kicking leg 5."

It's not in there because...that's not the rule. But hey, let's continue to have the sorry Fox No. 1 team f*ck up everyone's perception of every game.

/good god, Lee gets a ton of power in those kicks - his plant leg jumped a yard forward just from the momentum from the kick.

I don't buy this at all - or any assertions that any one team's fans are any worse than any other.
The things that motivate true sportsfans (tribalism, boredom, alcoholism, unresolved manhood issues, lack of intellectual resources) are the same.
Why would any one herd of them be any more mindless, drunken, violent, vapid wastes of skin than any other?
It's an extraordinary claim, and I see no proof at all, let alone any of the extraordinary variety.
I think Seattle fans are getting a bad rap here.

I mean, I wouldn't phrase it that way, but the officiating was pretty shiat.

The Bowman fumble thing (worked out for the Niners I guess), that end of 1st half personal foul, the running not roughing the punter call (if you hit a punter's plant leg as he lands on it, that's gotta be roughing), two or three generous spots on Lynch runs right around the 1st down line (giving the 1st is one thing, but not even calling for a measurement or giving harbaugh a chance to challenge is rough), etc.

I don't want to get into "the game would have ended differently if..." because who knows.

Kaepernick clearly kicking a fumbled ball away from Seahawks players...

Tarell Brown shoving Lynch hard to the ground after Lynch was already in the endzone.

whizbangthedirtfarmer: Meanwhile, Pete Carroll has commented on it.  Interesting.  Wonder if there's going to be a team-based fine in Sherman's future.

Thanks for the link.

That's pretty much exactly what I thought would happen.

taxandspend: True. Traffic leaving Mariners games back when I lived there was a nightmare.
Then again, that's when people actually went to Mariners games.

Mariners ownership: PROBLEM SOLVED. YOU'RE WELCOME!

Killer Cars: Seriously, turn off the TV and just watch Disney movies for awhile.

Oddly enough, you can't really escape from Richard Sherman there, either.

IAmRight: As for the roughing the punter penalty people wanted called, here's the rulebook.

The rules indicate severity and likelihood to cause injury is roughing. Hitting the plant leg is likely to cause injury (and did cause injury in this case).

I mean, are you seriously arguing that injuring the opposing punter without touching the ball isn't roughing?

Running into kicker= hitting kicking leg. Roughing= hitting plant leg or a portion of kicker's body.

I'm pretty sure Mike Pereira knows the rulebook better than both of us.

Also, I just looked up this year's rulebook.

Item 1: Roughing the kicker
.
It is a foul for roughing the kicker if a defensive player:
(a) contacts the plant leg of the kicker while his kicking leg is still in the air; or
(b) slides into or contacts the kicker when both of the kicker's feet are on the ground.
It is not a foul if the contact is not severe, or if the kicker returns both feet to the ground prior to the contact and falls over a defender who is on the ground.

What if the defensive player is on the ground and the punters kicking momentum brings his plant leg into contact with the player? That is what happened on that play.

Yes, Pereira is correct, as usual. And he was right on what should have been the fumble recovery but wasn't.

They should have called on him for his interpretation of the Kaepernick kick of the ball after his fumble. Should have been a penalty and loss of down.

If that had happened, his plant leg wouldn't have already been planted.
