"kids who inhale crushed-up candies could be more susceptible to drug and nicotine addiction later in life compared to their peers. "

Citation needed. Although I KNOW there isn't a research paper to support this.

Can we bring back metal jungle gyms, Jarts, no helmet or seat belt laws? Please?
The gene pool is getting kind of crowded.

Kids are dumb.

Christ, I did that ONE TIME in High School to get a rise out of my teacher and classmates, and now it's a friggin' fad?!

I'm like a poor man's David Bowie! :-(

Let me know when they can do a giant pixie stick. Amateurs!

British Smarties are basically plain M&Ms and nothing like the American Smarties that kids are snorting. Rockets are the Canadian version of American Smarties. The nearest UK equivalent to American Smarties are Fizzers.

Which is just a long way of saying subby is stupid.

Sadly? I'm not into junior high girls pedosubby.

Because the Brits don't have access to Pixie-Stix?

This is like the candy version of Krokodil...

Glad someone was here to say that.  Damn, subs, before you correct to metric, make sure you have your information straight.

New?

2014-01-19 03:16:55 PM
On Thursday, parents at Portsmouth Middle School were shocked to receive an email from the administration warning them of the risks their kids could face when snorting Smarties, including lung infections; nose-wedged maggots; bleeding and nasal passage scarring; allergic reactions and even smoker's cough.

WTF?!  I ain't googlin' that, I don't wanna know.

2014-01-19 03:19:15 PM
Is there a point to doing this? Seems stupid to me.

OK we have "Smarties" candy coated chocolate and you eat the red ones last and "Rockets" that you usually get on Halloween.  We also have M&Ms but Smarties are the standard.  Is that what you mean?

abhorrent1: Is there a point to doing this? Seems stupid to me.

Trust me... doing something stupid is standard for teenagers (more so boys).  I once came home to cinnamon all over my kitchen.  Why?  "Because we saw it on Youtube".  The stupid is strong.

As long as they don't get turned on to freebasing malt balls.

/I've said too much

2014-01-19 03:21:38 PM
I've never heard them called 'rockets' and I'm native US.  XD

2014-01-19 03:21:56 PM
Geeze in my day people that wanted to snort stuff did blow.

2014-01-19 03:23:21 PM
My friend got a nosebleed from doing this in 4th grade.

/team Smarties.

Came to say this, glad to see the job's already been done.

Subby, you are an idiot.

Stupid kids.  Mix them with a bottle of Robitussin and a can of Arizona Watermelon and beat the hell out of a fat Mexican guy like everyone else does.

There doesn't really need to be research to suggest someone dumb enough to do that because a friend egged him on is likely to try something even dumber like cigarettes or narcotics.

2014-01-19 03:29:38 PM
looks like someone doesn't know their sweets from their candy...

rockets = refreshers (Swizzel Matlow) also 'love hearts' and 'parma violets' and their infamous 'sherbert fountain' (yellow packaging, stick of licquorice in it).

smarties are totally different and contain chocolate and are made by Mars.

Just thought I'd clear that one up.

As a sidenote, I am SO glad the trend for snorting strawberry laces never caught on.

2014-01-19 03:29:59 PM
Well ain't this funny.  Swiss pop star Schoedo(I had no idea there were Swiss pop stars until I met him in Bogota) covers the Stones mother little helper and he does that very thing in his video.  Maybe the kids saw him doing it.

Said Video

They're just practicing for the real deal...with the burning and the coughing and the nosebleeds, and all.
Without the jones'ing afterwards...or at least a very mild form of sugar jones...

I remember snorting these back in the mid 80's...and I'm sure kids were doing the same well before then.

In high school we snorted pixie sticks. It was fun blowing blue and red snot.

The ones in 7th grade who could drive themselves to school, yeah.

Meh.

Pussies.

Real men(in the 8th grade) snorted Crosstops.

2014-01-19 03:47:51 PM
Nothing is new. They just didn't have YouTube back when we did the same things.

2014-01-19 03:49:36 PM
I wonder who comes up with this stuff.  "Hey, Billy, I heard you can get high by stuffing a baby turtle up your ass."

2014-01-19 03:50:48 PM
I remember, back in highschool, paying a freshman $5 to snort an entire Pixie Stick. Best $5 ever spent.

Okay okay, it was yesterday.

2014-01-19 03:52:57 PM
I had terrible allergies in middle school. I had enough nose trouble without snorting weird shiat up there.

Thank you for explaining just how stupid subby is though. I was wondering how he got to that.

Never heard of them here, but I gave up on most sweets years ago.

Oh FFS.

2014-01-19 03:59:37 PM
I did that once, over 20 years ago.  Everything that's old is new again, I suppose.
