I care. That's some folks dream of a lifetime. But the man is right; watching birds in your own backyard is rewarding, too. And I don't care about a bird count.just the idea of travel and search and meeting people...and seeing great birds in their habitat. But you'd rather spend you days telling people what women you would "hit" on some computer web site. As if. So there.

One fine morning while on a field trip, our professor got us up at the crack of dawn to go birding. He was a fanatical birder and so we went with him, just in case he saw something cool. Couldn't find an interesting bird anywhere, even though we were in some great habitat. When we went back to camp, we found the guys who hadn't gone for the walk sitting around on logs, hung-over, feeding 30 or 40 birds with camp debris. They said, "hey, Dr. R, here's all your birds!" He didn't think it was very funny.

No, actually he did--he had a good sense of humor. Until the day he thought someone had stolen his $1200 binoculars......
