(YouTube)   Today would have been Robert Palmer's 65th birthday. While he claimed he didn't mean to turn us on, anyone who watched MTV during its heyday undoubtedly felt something when watching the video for his classic Addicted to Love   (youtube.com) divider line 126

"Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley" is a terrific and grossly underrated album, especially given Lowell George's collaboration on the music.

As a female guitarist, I felt contempt for the models who didn't even know how to hold instruments,

Oh you boys and your gender bias, thinking that no girls watched MTV.

/Alan Hunter? Yes, please.

I recall James Keenan of Tool being interviewed about how his videos were offensive to some, and what was it that he found offensive. Palmer's addicted to love video.

Some like it hot.

2014-01-19 12:46:00 PM
And yes, he did die. I felt kinda bad about it. Wasn't a fan, but he was the only rock musician who would dress like an adult.

I loved Palmer's music until he went the "standards" route. "Drive" was a return to form. Then, he died, damn it.

He played simple pop music and found a style that sold.   Nothing more.

You do have to hand it to him though - this was done in a time where everyone else painted their faces and wore brightly colored spandex.

Felt something? Yeah, bored and disgusted. Empty-V sucked 98% of the time, even when it had music videos. Then again, I suppose 98% is better than the current 100%.

Fun fact, Palmer was fired from Power Station and replaced by the guy who played Murdock in Macguyver.

That's kind of Eurotrash thing, so it worked in an era that saw the rise of the Eastern European supermodel.

Shut the fark up. Its not like Boy Bands didn't completely dominate the landscape then and now. None of them had any talent, but you girls got wet looking at them so we all had to endure.

TY. It just seems like in a world of mediocrity, where everything great gets done to death, you can still pull this one out and surprise people. Love that.

There's a fat man . . .

I wish I could find that clip when he was asked by a member of the audience if there were any plans to reform Emerson Lake and Palmer

Little Feat takes me back to other forgotten artists .... Savoy Brown, Quicksilver Messenger Service, McGuiness Flint, and Alvin Lee and Mylon LeFevre's album On The Road To Freedom

Looks like Downtown Julie Brown from back in the day.  Which was better, I'll give you that.  (Although speaking of not aging well...)

Watch it with the sound off and you see how poor the dancers are.  Still fun to watch.
