Creoena: Showboating when up by 22 in the 4th quarter.  Everyone bow down before him.

So when exactly are you supposed to do this dunk - when it's a tied game in the 4th quarter? Here he gets to try to put on a show for the fans and if he misses it, it's of no consequence to his team.

This is pro sports. If you don't want your opponent showing out on you, don't let them go up by 22.

The perfect storm allowed it to happen...
1) Insane Dunkologist gets the ball
2) Wide open breakaway
3) 20 point lead in the 4th quarter

Sweet Dunk. Had to be done.

So you want him to lay the ball up like a 1960s white guy...you guys would probably complain about Dr J's cuff windmill or the behindthebackboard layup for being "unnecessary".

Seriously. The fans came for a show. If you can't have a close game, at least give them something to remember.

I'm noting that broadcasters are finding it a lot easier to scream 'That is The 1!' than 'That's a Top Play nominee!' Whole lot less of a mouthful.

Whenever you can.

Mario Lemiux didn't make every fancy shot, but the ones he did make were so fancy you forgot that little detail.

Vince Carter used to do that type of dunk on occasion, but I think Vince had more ups, so his looked a little better.  Paul George makes up for it by being an actual great player though, whereas Vince (dunks aside) was always a detriment to his team.

2014-01-19 11:16:46 AM
For the "purists" calling this travel.  It is definitively not travel per the rule book of basketball.  He picked the ball up off the dribble while his left foot was in the air and while planting his right.  He then planted his left and elevated.  Had he gone in for a layup, he would have used the exact footwork.

Learn the rules before making stupid comments.

saw that at halftime clips during Louisville's game last night.  that was definitely worth the entertainment for the crowd.  it's like that scoop of ice cream on a brownie.  was it necessary? nope but it was still damn tasty.  basically, it was dunk-a-la-mode and totally worth it.

Now normally I don't have much use for basketball, however even I can admit that that was pretty awesome.  Extra, extra cool points for being able to do it in a game.

/still prefer the anarchy on ice last night though
//THAT was one hell of a start to a game (yes it was a bad joke of a start but so are both teams at this point)

Maybe it's because I never listen to Jim Ross - but it mostly seems like a fail.  No lead-up excitement to the dunk, and you can't hear any words he says.  He commits the sin of not continuing to emote after the eruption from the crowd -- It's '''Ohhhh, the dog bites, the dog bites, he killed him"  And then quiet, and then --

The only thing I can hear clearly, which is "As god is my witness..." and that is followed by  "he is broken in half" or something, which I don't think makes any sense.

I'm not at all deaf...

Maybe in the flow of the whole game it's good - but in the clip, I have no idea what he's saying.  Do you?  Could someone transcribe this for me?

The showboating is totally excused because of the team he's playing - the Clippers, who are supposedly one of the best teams in the league - the 'up and comers' of the West like the Pacers are the 'up and comers' of the East...

And people think of the Pacers as being 'boring' and the Clippers as 'lob city.'

If he did this against the Bucks, then yeah, it'd be stupid.  But against the Clippers?  It's making a statement,

And it's awesome.  One of the greatest in-game dunks of all time when you're up 22 against a supposedly-great and great-dunking team?  Perfect.

This. Rubbing Blake Griffin's face in it was the cherry on top. I'm surprised they didn't send Matt Barnes out there to goon it up like a hockey game.

Blake is the new Shaq.  Fouled hard(flagrant even) every time he drives and only a third of the time a foul is called.  Then he postures a bit after powering through all that mess and everyone piles on and calls him arrogant.

As far as the team, Chris Paul is the glue, and without him they're a very young team without a real leader on the floor.  You lose games like that in a game that is much more emotionally driven and given to ebbs and flows of the players mental state on the floor.

As far as Barnes, he does it himself, and he's called the Clippers out in the press for not backing him up.  That's his game
