It's not discrimination when we do it.

She appeared in an ad for a virulently anti-immigrant candidate. The play she was appearing in was at Brava Theater Center in San Francisco's Mission District in a Spanish-language version of "The Vagina Monologues," . Obviously, the plays target audience was Latino. The theater simply had no choice if they wanted to attract and keep their target audience.

Pretty much the same thing would happen if a salesman for Smith and wesson had appeared in a commercial for the Brady campaign.

Yes, I'm sure Adam Baldwin, Patricia Heaton, and other staunch Republicans will be hurting for work...

yes, this is the very same thing as a blacklist...

Blacklisting in the 1950s was about rumors being thrown around and actors being brought in front of Congress to testify whether or not they were communist and to name names about their fellow actors.

This was an actress STARRING IN A POLITICAL AD and facing repercussions based on it. If blacklisting in the 50s was about shutting out actors who ran commercials by the Communist Party of America saying "I'm a communist! Communism is awesome!" it wouldn't have been looked down upon quite so much in hindsight.

TFA : "Alonso is an actress of Cuban and Venezuelan descent."

Nobody bothered to inform people on the West coast that Cubans are usually more conservative than most Latin Americans? This is really news?

Yep.

"First Amendment rights, we all have the right to say something. But it's also our right to say we object to that," Salinas said.

Conservatives seem to have a problem with the second half of that statement.  They think "freedom of speech" somehow means freedom from the court of public opinion when they say or do something others might object to.  Just don't you dare say "Happy Holidays", that's wrong because "Jesus".

Ding, Ding, Ding!  We have a winner!

Actress publicly endorses a candidate, has career ramifications because nobody wants to hire a teabagger, screams "blacklisting".

Shows that she has no idea what "blacklisting" really was.

I'm sure she can be buddy-buddy with Victoria Jackson and the rest of the right-wing celebrities though.

It was also about the industry being forcibly told, by people in government, that there would be real  repercussions if they hired certain people.
TFA is about some neurotic AW actress leaving her dinner theater company because she can't get along with the other members, and has values they abhor. Much like someone who hates motorcycles and will drive only a Toyota minvan might be asked to leave the Hell's Angels.

I remember hearing from friends in 2004 that wanted their Kerry stickers to be easily removed for that reason.. afraid it would affect their employment.

Myself, I didn't have a job that year, unless you count signing up as an election official for election day, for the money.

The really persecuted people are leftists in the US. Back in the 50s when they supported a political system that was killing tens of millions of people around the world and they couldn't get work. It was truly the darkest time in America. It got so bad Bill Ayers got blackballed and pu4sued by the FBI for plotting the murder of up to 25 million Americans.  Now all he has is a luc4ative job that pays him in the 6 figures. Sounds like a nice rationale for blacklisting an actress to me.

After all, if you associate with wrong people, you shouldn't be allowed work for me.

So if you're a job candidate, and you donated money to Democrats, I should be allowed to discriminate against you on that basis. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Alonso is an actress of Cuban and Venezuelan descent. She is perhaps best known for her role in the movie "Moscow on the Hudson" which also starred Robin Williams.

Moscow on the whatis?

relatoriodasituacao.com.br I'm pretty sure she's actually best know for being the eye candy in The Running Man.

Also: She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.
Ah, I see what's going on here.  Standard issue conservative tactics: nail yourself up on a cross and then complain about how you're being persecuted.

She resigned. She wasn't fired. She could have STOOD HER GROUND and refused to leave.

Wasn't she in Running Man?
