Well, here in Colorado we've cured cancer and solved other problems, so on to more important things. Next up, leash laws for Elk in Estes Park.

Some bars are 24 hour bars, cuts down on everybody leaving at once.

CSB -

I was in Estes Park, and pulled over to the side of the road to check out some elk grazing in some guys front yard. I get out of my car with my camera to take some pics. I was about 10 feet from the elk.

The guy comes out of his house and yells at me .... "get the hell away from those elk, they'll attack!"  So I backed up slowly and got back in my car.

When did Colorado get so awesome? I always thought it was stuffed shirts skiing, and granola eaters. I might have to move there

Years ago I worked the night shift.  I got off work around 2 or 3 am.  Because of California liquor laws, I couldn't go anywhere to get a drink and if I forgot to buy anything beforehand, I couldn't have a drink at home.  That annoyed me more than not being able to get breakfast at a restaurant because it was 6pm.

Denver FTW!

Fark yes.

Going to Denver in March. REALLY looking forward to helping out the local economy...

I really hope they pass this bill; there are some valid reasons why this should happen.  It's just a mess at closing time in downtown Denver and this will hopefully make it less of a fiasco.  I just hope that they put something in the bill saying that cities can't force bars to close earlier than 2 but it would be good to allow bars to close later if they want to do so.
While to outsiders it may seem like people in Colorado are on a mission to get as intoxicated as humanly possible there are some really valid reasons why this should be discussed and hopefully implemented.

Just need to get rid of the bs of TABOR and the "citizen" initiatives.

He was right. 10 feet from an animal is cool if you're in a petting zoo. 10 feet from a wild animal is asking for trouble.

I fail to see how a bar's operating hours are any of the government's business. If you want to set a bar's hours, buy a bar.

The bars will still cut people off. This stops morons doing a bunch of shots for last call

Makes sense.  They're probably losing revenue.  I know if I could legally smoke I would never drink alcohol again.

Astorix: Some bars are 24 hour bars, cuts down on everybody leaving at once.

I beleive in New Orleans that the rule is that every bar must close for an hour a day, but the bar gets to choose the hour.  So you have areas where, for instance, there are three bars in a row, and when one closes, you can just go next door.

This also gives the bars a chance to clean up, restock, drag the incoherent drunks out onto the street, etc.

I like it.

2014-01-18 07:45:16 PM
I've always wondered why most clubs close at 2 am when half the time the crowd doesn't really get there until 10 or 11. I've never understood why grownups have to be shooed home by cops like little kids all across this land of so-called liberty.

2014-01-18 07:51:53 PM
In Texas the puritanical blue laws relating to liquor store hours actually improve law enforcement aims. When the liquor stores all close at 9pm there's no 2am armed robberies at liquor stores. Since beer and wine sales cut off at midnight even most small operator convenience stores close at midnight, leaving just the big players and thus fewer targets that are well prepared for robbery, with cameras and closely followed rules about cash availability.

Now, the idea of a bar being open til 7am? Sounds like a drag to work the late late shift.

It'll be like 'Leaving Las Vegas' at the bars, then 'Chiefing Las Vegas' when you get home!

When I worked an overnight shift and got off at 5 am, the worst part was if I felt like going to a bar at 6 am I wasn't going to want to talk to anyone else going to a bar at 6 am.

Instead of dealing with drunks on the road in the middle of the night when their easy to spot and traffic is light, lets change it to morning rush.

Why have dictated hours at all. In an actual free country, the business owners decide when they want to open and close and the patrons decide when the want to go out. It's like farking magic.

A true drunk knows you only drive completely shiathoused between the hours of 7:15 am and 8:30 pm.  Duh.

I live just a few blocks from that bar strip. But I'm sound asleep at release time. SOME of us have to get up at 5:00 AM.

here in nm, our bars close at 2a but since i haven't been to a bar since i've lived here, just swing by the grocery store or walgreens, get my booze there, drink it any time of the day or night.

Also in NM, and that's how I roll. Much less expensive, no assholes bumping into you on purpose then trying to start a fight, no worries about a DUI on the way home, I can listen to whatever the fark music I want to...there is no downside to drinking at home instead of in the bar.

All it does is cut down on fistfights when everyone rolls out at the same time.  The average drunk isn't going to stay out til 7 am on a Wednesday night.

After living in Ohio (where bars close at 2am), and upstate NY (where closing time varies, but is normally 1am, except for weekends), I moved to Nevada. Here they locals looked at me like I had a third arm when I asked about closing time. They just don't.

It was quite amusing getting some interpretations of what Semisonic's song, Closing Time, was referring to.

They just need to start selling THC infused beer.

It's not operating hours, it's legal hours to sell alcohol.

I am still trying to figure out what magic Buffalo used to allow alcohol sales til four AM. Meanwhile, my shiat county ends sales at ONE AM. Finding that out at 1:15 AM while standing in the checkout was a special kind of hell. We had to resort to the rum in the back of the cupboard, which was not a good followup to six hours of beer.

/so glad I'm moving

Unless of course you LIKE meeting women. Because no matter how bad your odds are at a bar, your odds are zero at home alone.

In New Orleans you can buy alcohol at any time and you can get it to go.    Foreign concepts to those of us who grew up in less liberal places.

i was in new orleans on a business trip in '75 and at a bar in fat city. figuring they would close at 2:00 AM i didn't push my hosts to leave. boy was i shocked when last call was 4:30 AM and only because the help wanted to go home.

the next day's sales calls where no fun.

Point taken.  However, Mrs Buzzcut would not appreciate me picking up women in bars, and likes to drink beer with me at home.

You'd pretty much have to go the malt liquor route with that one a la Four Loco.

Everything else seems to be adjusting to 24 hour lifestyles (second and third shifts) with places that serve breakfast 24/7, eateries open 24/7, only makes sense to allow people to be able to drink 24/7. I've never understood why bars force everyone out at 2am anyway, they could stay open, just stop serving and allow people to sober up before leaving. (some places do that I believe)

Because they have to pay people to stand there and monitor them or the owners would have to do it themselves, plus they won't be able to start cleaning up til everyone leaves. I don't blame them at all for booting people. Do you want to still be at work past 2-3 am?
