Is it just me, or does it say something about the state of modern economics when, given the chance to develop a fantasy game based on scoring against real-world events, the economists chose to base it on their academic careers.

I'm trying to think "what other real-world events could economists and their claims be scored against?"

It was. There's still quite a few games out there. MarketWatch has a center where you can create games among a group of friends. They hosted the Reddit Stock Challenge 2013 that just ended last week.
