I'm pretty sure you can google for death ray plans and get some ideas on how one such device might be built...wanna really have fun, look up the plans for an EMP gun sometime.

How is this a crime?

Anyway, is there more to this story or is this just some nutty dude who didn't build much and ran into a random synagogue to find people with Israeli military contacts for his death ray device?  Did they actually have something that was going to/able to  DO something?

I don't think it qualifies as a gun, they're pretty much a uni-directional microwave oven. I say they rename it as the Ion cannon, it sounds cooler.

So I guess they are getting the psychiatric help they obviously require.

a three-count felony indictment Thursday charging Crawford with attempting to produce and use a radiological device, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and distribution of information relating to weapons of mass destruction.

Or that.  Whatever.

What utter bullshiat. "die from radiation poisoning within days"

Simply not possible from an X-ray source, and they would have EXTREME difficulty building such a device.

If they get to court there's something Very strange going on here.

Or that was the intent. It just made them sick.

Ha, the joke's on him. He can't really   destroy mass, only convert it into pure energy!

How about this. By arresting the guy and confiscating his weaponry GE can sell it to Israel and make lots of money. Now you know too much....

Another thing he said he wanted to get a job in a machine shop to gain access to xray tubes to obtain radioactive material. Xray tubes do not have any radioactive material in them they are used to generate radioactivity. As stated before they didn't have a clue.

This whole thing is BS. I don't think that these guys would have the expertise to develop such a device. Just the fact that they were talking about a battery power supply is not practical. To develop the level of radiation they would have to obtain it would take kilovolts/megavolts to strike a target to develop the radiation and then shoot this radiation through a waveguide and finally aim it through a collimation system at the intended victims. This poses another problem of scatter and attenuation of the beam over distance making the beam ineffective after probably a few feet depending on the wavelength. I don't think that they could ever obtain any type of radioactive source at the needed energy to even come close to this. No way they could ever pull this off

I have a electromagnetic radiation emitting device on the front of my car, helps me see at night.

/next time just reconfigure the main deflector array to emit a tycheon pulse

Right. But, stand anywhere near a microwave transmitter(those wrong way dish things you see on poles or building roofs) for a couple seconds and you will cook like yesterdays meatloaf. I used to do commercial maintenance and when we went to the roof of said buildings, we had to shut down the transmitters for the whole time we were up there.

Moreover, as long as he did the paperwork selling to the Israeli military is perfectly legal.
Either there's more to it or the indicting jury is full of morons.

Could be an X-Ray machine. Or a fusor. Both would be pretty lame as a ranged weapon though.  And I don't see these knobs building a portable cyclotron.

Nothing strange about them going to "court" (I assume you mean "trial") at all. You don't only get brought up on charges when you have a foolproof plan. If I was plotting to kill someone through some flawed Rube Golderberg-esque scheme and the police found out about it halfway through they wouldn't just leave me alone just because they didn't think the scheme would work... I'd still be trying to murder someone. They'd still arrest and try me, and that's perfectly legit.
