It's stone cold crazy, but in a good way (yours was better). I still listen to Queen, and still get a little bummed out knowing he's gone.

Likewise, my man. Likewise.

If there was ever a rockstar/musician that felt like a real stand up guy was Freddie. He exuded class, as far as we know he never got into typical celebrity shenanigans and scandals. He was pretty reserved and pretty much only gave us his work, because his private life was his to keep (as it should be). Then you add that up to the IMMENSE talent and charisma he had and he's simply the best frontman in the history of rock.

What, is someone going to make a sequel to Highlander? That would be awesome.

On Queen's last album, Innuendo, there were frequent issues with Mercury's declining health (he would have to go on oxygen after some rehearsals) , and yet he still delivered a performance that was dynamic and powerful as anything Queen had ever done, and, as he had always done, sang better than almost any other singer alive.

I would imagine if we could get Miracle Max with his bellows, Mercury would still out-sing any performer today.

Any song that is released over 20 years after an artist's death is probably terrible.  If it was any good, it would have been released when the author was still alive.  If it was not bad but not good either, it would have been released in the sales and release rush within months after the death.  At this point, they're just trying to milk the cow after its udders have already fallen off under the assumption that, no matter how bad the song is, the diehards will still purchase it.  I like Queen and Freddie Mercury, but don't get your hopes up.

that was my thought too.  I think they are scrounging for cash with the movie deal etc.  Freddie Mercury probably recorded this 25 years ago and shiat canned it because he hated the way it sounded.

Queen/Freddie Mercy (the band was basically him) are one of the best bands/singers of all time.  They gave us countless hits that have lasted for decades, and will last for decades more.  When you talk about the best bands/singers of the 1900's you have something like :The rolling stones, Queen, Elvis, the beetles, Sinatra, Ke$ha and then everyone pauses.  I will stand by what I said, Mercury was nothing if not a perfectionist.  He recorded bohemian rhapsody thousands of times iirc.  I think the final cut was over a hundred recordings spliced together.  He was the heart and sole of that band.  If he didn't want to release this track then yeah, its kind of shiatty the farking drummer is trotting it out for a payday decades later.  Just saying some folks should respect a dead mans decisions before trying to get a payday off of him.

That said yes I am excited to hear it.

That Kesha thing kinda caught me by surprise)

(Hello, my name is Brian May. I'm a musician who built my own guitar. Now I'm an astrophysicist. In my past I wrote rock-guitar tunes for a rock-guitar heavy band called Queen! You may not know me, but many consider me a very accomplished song writer. Oh, hai John)
If he didn't want to release this track then yeah, its kind of shiatty the farking drummer(? Not even mentioned in TFA) is trotting it out for a payday decades later.  Just saying some folks should respect a dead mans decisions before trying to get a payday off of him.

Somehow I don't think Brian and Roger are in any danger of going on the dole. They were shrewed businessmen from the beginning and I imagine they have more money than Walter White.

I saw Queen three times in the 1970's and feel quite fortunate as they put on a kickass show. I also love what music Brian May put out with the Brian May Band; "Back to the Light" was his therapy for the depression he entered after Freddie died. I also have a recording of a 21-year old Brian playing "Purple Rain".

Tim Staffel had a decent voice; I wonder why they haven't asked him to front the band (I assume he is still alive).

How did they get the microphone into Freddie's coffin? And isn't his face buried into a cushion?

Are you saying Brian May could travel through time?

Brian Harold May CBE (born 19 July 1947)
Purple Rain is a 1984 American rock musical drama film

Or may be you mean Purple Haze from the 1967 Jimi Hendrix Album " Are You Experienced?"  I'd still like to hear a cover of Queen doing Purple Rain if you have it.

There's no way they are doing anything for money.  They all have boatloads of it.  They've been talking on and off about this song/album for a couple years now.  I think it would be difficult for them to complete, given the circumstances.  I hope they don't shelve it, as I think it would be awesome.

2014-01-18 01:33:25 PM
I'll look out for those beauties, oh yeah.
