The local news around here (Fox Philly, Action News, NBC 10, Eyewitness News) were practically begging this to be 20 kids running around like it was Vietnam.. You would have sworn it was Columbine.. That's how bad they wanted this to be more than it was.. farking animals.. It was just an asshole inner city kid with a gun... Nothing more.

vodka: I find it ridiculous that the debate on these articles is always over gun control instead of what makes these kids do these things. There is a cancer

That is too difficult a question.  There could be reasons of culture that certainly could be seen as uncomfortable for anyone to bring up because it could easily drift into a topic that cannot be discussed in America.  Mental illness (while seemingly not an issue in this shooting) is another topic that is wrapped up in so many of these cases and has no easy solution so inevitably while it may be mentioned, there is no depth or real discussion of needed steps to address the ever growing numbers of mentally ill.  That leaves the tools utilized in these events which are incredibly easy to demonize and target for responsibility even if they are one small part.  The solutions made to remove the tool are seemingly simple in the minds of advocates of prohibition and restrictions on firearms, but really fails to address the larger problems and whose impact is largely on individuals who do not engage in the unlawful behavior.

Daedalus27: Of course had every proposed legislative remedy to gun violence been passed into law, it is likely we would still be having these events.

In every single "mass shooting" since Sandy Hook, the shooter had already broken multiple gun laws before they even pulled the trigger.

Daedalus27: I like where the story says it adds to the debate on gun control. What debate? We had the debate and the NRA and their political supporters won. Now we are living with that outcome.

Yeah, because if it wasn't for the NRA and it's idiot supporters we would have things like laws against 15 year old kids having guns, or laws against bringing guns into school!

Piizzadude: Come on, it is just a law abiding citizen exercising his constitutional rights.

You have convinced me. One more law will be the one that stops criminals from breaking laws. Just like speeders that murder people. It has completely stopped. No one dies on the road anymore because of law breakers.

MisterTweak: styckx: The thing is.. I highly doubt this is some unstable teen out looking to get all the evil bullies in the world.  North Philly is one of the worst crime sections of Philadelphia.

I used PNE (NE philly airport) frequently a long time ago. Rough neighborhood but happily it was not completely abandoned and destroyed the way some other inner-city places were in the 70s and 80s.

It cracked me up when, shortly after the elections last year, some yahoo siezed on the fact that not a single ballot was cast for Romney in one of the precincts in NE philly. Safe to say the intrepid "columnist" probably did not spend a lot of time off that section of I-95....

This.

Look, there *might* be some voter fraud going down.  Among other things, the current system (walk in, say "Hi, I'm  Bob." vote Bob's ballot, and hope that Bob doesn't actually try to vote later that day) is pretty terrible for detecting it, and if it wasn't for the historical precedents, I'd be right there with you on photo id.

Having a 100% black, 100% poor, 100% urban precinct cast 100% Obama votes is not voter fraud.  If there had been any Romney votes, that would've said voter fraud.

MattyBlast: FTFA: "Police said they were not providing details about the suspect, citing his age. Police had tweeted that the suspect was a student at the school."

If you cite his age, gender, and the fact that he's a student at the school, aren't you doing exactly that (providing details about the suspect), dumbasses??

They are avoiding using the word "black"...

/not racist
/just the truth
