Hehe, well I'll say this, Cavill isn't why Man of Steel rancid goat balls. In fact him and the special effects team were about the only things that were good about that movie. The writers, director, and casting agent should all be drug out into the street and shot though.

Wow, England is SO much more interesting than the US... I don't know about his rant against actors pretending to be people they aren't, and I'm not sure about this "I'm above all of this, but I'm not above making money off of it." vibe I'm getting, but I've seen a few interviews, and the guy seems pretty cool. he had better be making a mint on GOT though, because he is SO good at this role, that he will be typecast even more so than Mark Hammil was. He totally nails Jofferey.

It's was carried by the visual depiction of Superman themes, rather than dialog.  A different sort of film, but when viewed in that light, much more powerful.

If you thought Man of Steel was good, you may be some kind of nerd but you're certainly not a movie or comics nerd.  The production was poorly done, the acting was bad, the writing failed to properly characterize anyone, and the plot was... mostly hole, bad even by action-movie standards.

And I'm not even going to start on why it was bad from a comic-book perspective or we'll be here all night.  Just suffice that the fan-theory that comes closest to redeeming that aspect of the movie is that it's about the origin of Ultraman rather than Superman, because that's how hard and in what direction they screwed things up.

... but yeah, if you're a "nerd" because you really love painting model trains or something, and you see like two movies a year and haven't picked up a comic since you were five, sure, I could see you thinking it was all right.  But in that case you don't get to speak for those of us with cultural hobbies, k?

I see it like this: If an actor/actress can portray someone so well (as long as it is written properly, keep in mind) that the viewer starts to hate that person, it shows two things:
#1) that actor/actress? Awesome to be able to portray someone well enough to get an emotion out of someone
#2) the viewer needs to be able to chill the fark out and remember that it all pretend.

The woman playing Skyler from Breaking Bad, this guy playing Joffrey, and other people who have played "villains" have actually received death threats. That is both flattering and frightening at the same time.

And that's one of the things that was disappointing to me about MoS. The concept was interesting enough, the acting was mostly ok and the visual effects were great. It had the potential to be a great movie. The problems IMO were the writing of the characters, some portions of the plot and how the whole thing was put together.

Yeah, I find the whole thing where people get all upset at the actor because the character they play is a douchebag/asshole/evil/biatch/whatever to be kind of disturbing. I can understand hating the character, because that's what's supposed to happen in a well put together performance. I hate Joffrey, and I hope the writers for the show tweak what happens to him to make things worse for him than in the book, but the actor that plays him hasn't done anything to draw my ire. Anyone that wants the actors head on a pike because the fictional character he plays is a vicious idiot needs to be put away for some serious mental issues.

It's not about Superman, it's about Clark Kent. Christopher Reeve did a great job portraying Clark Kent, making him feel nerdy, clueless, sympathetic, and harmless. Yes, it's not hard to portray Superman. Clark's character is where all the fun is.

Considering the actors that were originally considered for the role, they all probably would have both overshadowed the role, as well as made the "Clark" character so unconvincingly NOT humble it would have ruined the franchise for ever: Warren Beatty, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, Nick Nolte, Robert Redford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ryan O'Neal, Jeff Bridges, Jan-Michael Vincent, David Soul, Robert Wagner and Jon Voight, with the front-runners being Nolte and Voight after the role was turned down by Beatty and Redford.

Fortunately, they picked a relative unknown who NAILED it.

I have a whole pile of boxes with thousands of comics all bagged with cardboard inserts in the next room. I spent pretty much every dollar I could get my grubby little hands on as a young kid (more decades ago then I'd care to admit) on comics, and then once I got older and got a job I had a spot in the box at my local comic book shop. Now I still read them, just digitally usually.

i100.photobucket.com

Man of Steel was great. I thought the acting was great and it was the best depiction of Superman ever put to any kind of film. There's just a very pissy, vocal subsection of nerds who tend to get all frothy when something that piques their nostalgia isn't translated to a new medium  exactly how it was written decades ago - even when a too-slavish translation would be outdated and silly today. These people are just impossible to satisfy.... and why we can't have nice things.

Sorry, but I think the movie was not just good, but actually fantastic. I almost choked up at one point. It wasn't just a great comic book movie, it was simply a great movie.

Well, he certainly can't act...

/BA-DUM-DUM!

Hehe, well I'll say this, Cavill isn't why Man of Steel rancid goat balls. In fact him and the special effects team were about the only things that were good about that movie. The writers, director, and casting agent should all be drug out into the street and shot though.

You have problem with Amy Adams? I thought that except for the poor writing in the movie, she was spot on as Lois Lane. :(

I dunno. Maybe it was the just the writing, but she just didn't quite strike the right tone as Lois IMO.

My main issue with Lois Lane in "Man of Steel" was that it felt like the character didn't need to be there. Also, Dana Delany kind of defined the role for me.

Immediately what I thought of the first time I read that. Kudos!

Not having HBO and only hearing about GoT through friends, every time someone mentions House Stark, that is  exactly what I picture.

/damn you, RDJ, being charming enough to transcend genre and canon

RoxtarRyan: The woman playing Skyler from Breaking Bad,

What I find odd (maybe this is just me) is that Skyler being Skyler was part of what drove Walt.  Now if there was ever a love interest that I hated (and not the actress, mind you, the character) was Rita on Dexter.  I don't understand how she never got half the vitriol that Skyler did.

I liked MoS, but yeah, this.  Also, Amy Adams is meh.  Dana Delany is still va-va-voom.
