If he had evidence of child molestation, which was enough to fire the priest.

Why didn't he turn that evidence over to the police?

I wouldn't say nothing. They're not in that position anymore (phrasing) and with "defrocked" on their resume, I think it would be difficult to find another gig where they'd have the same "opportunities".

Baby steps. At least they are not just being moved to other churches now.

Just defrocked? They should reopen the Spanish inquisition for the pedo priests.

You're like the umpteenth person in this thread calling for for the church to have the  power to try, convict and punish people for crimes.  Is that what you really want?

Dragonflew: Catholic children must be really, really sexy.

I was a Catholic child. I was very sexy. Now I'm just a dirty semi-old athiest.

defrocked?? oh my.

That's almost as bad as being 8 years old and having a cock stuck up your ass at church.

Yep. First we go after the pedos, then the Calvinists. The Thirty Years War aint over yet, heathens.

Of all the defrocking priests in the world, and you have to walk into my gin joint...

rudemix: I'll be more impressed when one of these popes comes out in dark glasses, loaded with handguns ala the Punisher and shoots each molesting priest straight through the forehead and says in that cool action hero way, 'You've been excommunicated, biatch!' Until that time, any effort any pope makes to make changes in an organzation 2,000 years old with ties to politics, criminals, and implications affecting the entire world is not enough. Certainly if these popes cared, like a bunch of the asskissers around here seem to think they care, they would have tidied up the whole organization in one afternoon. Certainly an organization so old, so rich, so powerful that took 2,000 years to build should be simple to clean out in a day.

But going on believing these popes care. Call me when each and every molesting priest bursts into flame spontaneously at the exact same time. Until then I wont be satisified with any other kind of efforts to change an old rotting dinosaur like the Catholic Church in a slow but steady and successful way!

Faved.

js34603: So were these just the 400 caught during that two years? Or, as I'm hoping, was this a purge of 400 hundred pedos that pedoed over the course of decades that took two years?

Kind of afraid it was just 400 that got caught over two years.

Me too. I'm hoping this was a housecleaning.

The Vatican has some filth in it that needs to be blasted off with a firehose, and this is a good start.

optikeye: If he had evidence of child molestation, which was enough to fire the priest.

Because just because you have valid reason to believe rape occurred doesn't necessarily mean you have enough evidence to convict the rapist in a court of law, or that the victim is even willing to press charges. Not to mention the statute of limitations.

Pfffft. Whatever. One 10 year old boy could defrock those 400 priests in under a minute. It took Benedict two years?

Dragonflew:  A coach molesting a child? We're still talking about one coach from three years ago.

The fact that Sandusky was literally WALKED IN ON while doing it and not reported to the cops had something to do with that. As well as the fact that Joe Paterno, who was very famous as a football coach even before the scandal broke, was involved in covering it up.

Seriously, there's plenty of news stories about coaches diddling kids, you just haven't been paying attention.

Oh, I know. But they are vastly outnumbered by RC priests diddling kids.

Frocking prelates, how do they work?

2014-01-18 12:25:10 AM
They never should have been frocked in the first place.

/Frocked not a word?
//what?
///I suppose combobulated isn't a word either?

Slaxl: Well I always assumed Pope B resigned because there was some seriously bad stuff that could go public about him, and naturally I assumed it was to do with molestation of children. If he was defrocking priests for it then that makes that less likely, though not impossible.

Does anyone know why Pope B resigned? Has it come out yet? Not the cover-up excuse, but the real reason.

I wonder if the defrocking had something to do with the retirement.   Fire and humiliate 400 people, and they are all pissed, but organizations being what they are, their friends in the organization who "couldn't believe it" will be pissed.  The defrocked priests bosses will have some angst, as it makes the cardinal look bad if one of his priests was caught doing naughty.

There could be a lot more senior people in the church who are still vexed with Pope B.
