Sheesh! How hard is it to get signals from Barstow to Pasadena?

2004-01-27 10:33:08 PM
Damnit, I hate news like this. It's like getting all fired up for a helluva party that suddenly gets borked.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TURN ON HEAT? (Y/N)
nasa: N

YOU HAVE PRESSED Y. HEAT ON.
NEXT COMMAND?
nasa: CTRL+ALT+DEL

YOU CANNOT GO CTRL+ALT+DEL. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, A MAGISTRATE?

Lots like cars...British one won't start, American one runs but you have to invent techniques to keep it running...how about a German Mars rover?

Costly, but working past their time.

It wouldn't stop at just Mars.

Send one of these to Mars. Heater works great..Rolled mine a couple of times..came up fightin'

so German and Japanese rovers would be the most reliable while Korean ones would be cheap imitations?

And one says West Coast, the other says South Florida. Color me confused.

Drew, is there some kind of frequent flyer discount if I have multiple personality disorder and buy a TF account for each of them?

Maybe they should empty some files out like the other one needed.

bah, mountain outta mole hill, they just gotta go over and turn off the switch!

Seriously, i bet this will not be a huge problem for em.

NASA is having too many problems with unmanned robots. Just send manned spaceships there. If they don't come back, no one cares. They knew the risks.

feh

since most american space technology is based on work by Nazi scientists like Werner Von Braun and Rudiolf, etc. I'd say that's your German one right there. It's just that it's been BUILT by Americans...

;)

"Mission manager Jim Erickson told reporters said the power loss appeared to be from one of the craft's heating units that keeps turning itself on and running overnight without receiving commands from NASA to do so."

Well, it's probably cold.

German, Schmerman. Tom Lehrer said it best: "And what is it that will make it possible to spend twenty billion dollars of your money to put some clown on the moon? Well, it was good old American know how, that's what, as provided by good old Americans like Dr. Wernher von Braun!"

NASA, go back to faking your space missions.

It's the only way you can get it right.

NASA sure knows how to waste money...

2004-01-28 04:13:36 AM
I still say it's static discharge related. The Windriver stuff should show them what part is doing what software wise, "build up of files" can't happen without them knowing it, or without them being able to do something about it. That they're antsy and apparently unsure means it's hardware related and they don't know why.

I blame Republicans, gays, and the poor for these Mars issues.

Didn't they test these freaking things in Montana or somewhere?

At least the first problem seems like it should have come up during testing.

I remember graduating near the top of my college class way back in '89 (MIT), and interviewing 32 different companies my senior year.

One of those companies was NASA.

NASA offered a full $7K/year lower than all the other companies, and that appears to be showing during these past few years.

For some of us takin a hit to the wallet so you assholes might just possibly some day in the future get off the rock and out in the system and survive in the long run is worth it. And even though you seem to have no respect or gratitude for it, your welcom.

German...reliable???

High performance, yes. Reliable is not a word I would apply to them (except maybe relative to British cars).

Maybe NASA should design new technology instead of basing everything on 45 year old designs that cost too much to make.

2004-01-28 06:42:08 AM
sremorse

Wow, do you think you could pay any less attention to what NASA/JPL is doing and how they're doing it?
Besides, which 45 year old robotic-rover design were you referring to? There were so many...
