(Talking Points Memo)   UT officials say police officer involved in a quadruple murder-suicide- well a quadruple murder AND a suicide really, because a quadruple suicide? Well that'd really be something now wouldn't it?   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 104

Alonjar: I think its more like "My wife is leaving me, taking my kids, my house, and 70% of my money for the rest of my life.  I'm just going to kill that biatch rather than live in  thathell... and I'm certainly not going to jail.  fark it, we're all going down"
As Chris Rock would say... I'm not saying its right, but I understand.

Wow, you're a farking psycho. You're so self-centered that you think people should die if before they're allowed to live without you. Anyone who would even imagine killing their kids so that they don't have to be alone has some serious farking problems.

fredklein: PaulRB: fredklein: But only cops should have guns, Right?

If only the entire family were armed to the teeth, this would not have happened! (everybody knows that prevents murder-suicide events!)

Not always, no. But if his wife had had a gun (and was trained), the chances of her stopping him would have been higher than they were without one.

There is no marksman in the world who can stop someone (also very well trained with their gun, especially in stressful situations) who whips it out without warning and starts firing at all adults. Even if it was a verbal confrontation and they don't entirely trust him anymore, they wouldn't have every nerve waiting for him to pull out his gun and react, they're more likely waiting for a fist at most. It wouldn't matter if both wife and MIL had their guns on a holster, it would be game over much too quickly. Once everyone's shot once, it only takes a few more seconds to finish them off.

Let alone if it wasn't a verbal confrontation at all, and they were at ease before he walked in and fired. Surprise is the best weapon of all. All self-defense against guns is based on reacting to someone threatening you with one, not firing at you.

Depends. Is the armed person the first one shot, or the 10th? Are they shot, or just shot at? If they are hit, where are they hit? Etc.

/cops are actually poorly trained. Most only hit the range for their yearly evals, while "gun lovers" go more often
