The gunman's motive remains unclear. Sheriff Huffman does not think it was a robbery.

Sounds like without that concealed carry, those two people would be dead right now instead of the robber.

What kind of a sociopath decides that his life or the life of innocent victims is worth more than the life of an armed criminal?

There's a limit to that:  If you steal my life's savings, essentially you've stolen from me the time it took to earn it.  And I can't get that time back to start all over again.

You know, when I'm thinking about robbing a store, Dollar General is not normally on my list. But, come to think of it, they do a steady business and and I'm sure a lot of the transactions are cash. And besides, when you're going to rob a Dollar General, you don't have to dress up like you do when you rob a Wal-Mart.

How can you know that the thief is not simply desperate and attempting to feed starving family members? Does not the possibility of such a motive entirely justify the act of theft, and does it not render entirely unjust the use of force against that thief?

I had actually considered using that reference in the headline. However, the original quote related to the Dollar Palace, so I instead presented a commentary on ammunition pricing.

I hope the over saturation of dollar stores causes that model to collapse. I realize this comment has little to do with the actual incident, but these stores provide minimum wage jobs, do nothing but hock inferior goods that will have to be frequently replaced because they break (not counting plastic forks, detergents etc), and they just make blighted neighborhoods MORE blighted. These are rent-a-centers need to go. They take advantage of the working poor, they don't HELP. You're better off buying used goods that were made properly.

The majority of defensive firearm uses do not result in death, thus a defensive firearm use that results in a legally justified homicide (as opposed to a nonfatal injury or no injury at all) is newsworthy.

I'm right with you there on rentacenter, i was in small claims court some years ago with my now wife who was trying to get money out of a contractor who didn't finish a job and while we were waiting rent a center was there trying to get money out of this woman who bought a bedroom set 3 years prior and she had already paid 8,000 dollars on it when it came to late fees and interest over the 3 years and she still owed 3 grand more! The judge told them to work it out on their own and sent them on their way.  But dollar stores I dunno, we used to go there when I was young to get stuff like plates and cups and cleaning stuff never thought they were trying to scam people...

I shoot frangible ammunition in my P99 and in my High Power for self-defense when I carry, since I don't expect to be going up against anyone with body armor.

They also have the added bonus of disintigrating if they hit a wall or other object, and reduce the chance of overpenetration.

The Family Dollars and 99 Cents Only stores in Vegas are constantly getting robbed.  There is a 99 Cents store a mile from my house that gets robbed more than twice a day for over a week every year in mid-December.  Usually they just take money from the till, and if there's no violence or weapons, it's a misdemeanor, so it's barely worth prosecuting them.

I reload .357 for less than a nickel a round but I already have brass from 30 years ago and about a thousand pounds of linotype metal I bought for 30 cent per. The last time (about 3 months ago) I bought powder it was $34 a pound (up from $12, 30 years ago). Haven't bought primers for several years. Without doing the exact math at today's prices I would probably be at around .12 to .15 per round.
/Haven't priced factory rounds lately.

If I shot more often than I do (about once every two months, schedule and finances permitting), I would probably be inclined to try hand reloading. But the buy in seems a little cost prohibitive for a couple hundred rounds every few months.

Who cares *why* someone's trying to destroy your life? It doesn't matter. Whatever depths someone else has sunk to do not justify bringing your life down. You didn't make the life choices they made or hell, you didn't get the shiatty rolls of the dice they did. Their problems are their problems, not yours, and nothing will justify them trying to bring you down to bring themselves up. That's incredibly selfish on their part.

This reminds me of another article on fark about 6-8 weeks ago from georgia....

The criminals family said the shooter (with ccw) should have just gone on his way and some other such bs as that.

That crimnal had not shot anyone yet, but had the clerk on his knees execution style.

I wonder if there will be a follow up article with quotes from this criminal's family saying that the shooter in this case had no right to shoot the guy either.

Criminals are all for gun control, because then they will control the gun and can rob/kill anyone they want without wondering if someone is carrying.

AZ no longer requires a CCW to carry conceled in most place, and note the overall crime rate has gone down because crimanls dont know who is packing and who is not.....

/just sayin'
//If everyone carried a gin, the criminal population would dwindle pretty quickly
///would need more room for graves though....
