Probably because he has some pervie dirt on the media elites that they don't want him to be spilling. Same reason why Roman Polanski hasn't seen the inside of a jail cell after all these decades.

It's very hard for some people to accept that not everyone cares what they care about.  Usually, they write articles about how the MSM media is refusing to cover the scourge of black flash mobs or how corporate media won't cover Monsanto poisoning the children with GMO corn.  This is just another variety of that.

Maybe it's because I haven't been a movie theater in about two years, but I really don't care that creepy Woody Allen is creepy.  Is he charged with a crime?

If I were fingered by Woody Allen when I was 7 years old, I'd probably be pretty messed up too.

I felt the same way about The phantom menace losing to the matrix for special effects. Say what you want about episode one sucking (and you'd be right), but man, those battle droid shadows looked real.

The Matrix had, what? Zooming a camera around slowly?

He has dubious morals and his behavior is, at least, repulsive, but he's made some great movies. Some intelligent people struggle with reconciling these two sides.

got forgotten.

Hate Woody Allen with a passion that should honestly be reserved for jilted lovers.  Never seen a film he made that I found value in.  Never heard anything about the man that made me think he was anything but a creep.  He likely is\was a pedo.

fark Woody Allen.

The Matrix had a new idea (or at least a new idea to mainstream audiences).  Star Wars incrementally improved an idea.

Seriously?  You're seriously bothered your favorite movie didn't win some stupid award?  Can't you have some sense of self-worth and self-assessment and not rely on some mostly long-dead Academy voters rubber-stamping your childhood?

the effects in the Matrix were mind blowing, ground breaking and were something on the whole than no one had seen.

SWEP1 was just CGI.  It didn't even really look all that great, looking back.  Jar Jar was farking abysmal.

Nah, there's a simpler reason: they might work on one of his movies someday. In Hollywood you never trash-talk a potential future employer.

It's a poorly kept secret around H-town that the big Jewish producers are typically secret pedophiles, and that a lot of child stars get roles in exchange for participation.

If you can't separate the art from the person, then you might as well give up on appreciating art.

I get what you're saying, but you can't really expect people to feel comfortable labeling him a pedophile when nobody has pressed charges. The statutes of limitations are usually pretty long for those types of crimes, aren't they?

if we can be honest...

Star Wars didn't deserve best picture.  The story itself is nothing but rehashed hero's journey bullshiat. I love Star Wars (was a kid in 77, go me) and of course to me it was the greatest film ever, but let's not go overboard.  You have to also remember that at the time, even with SW doing very well in theaters, no one knew it would become a cultural touchstone.  There was every chance in the world that the next SW film would kill the series and SW would have been forgotten.

Here's a valid question.

If ESB had not been so good, would we still remember star wars?

well, both movies gave nerds a new hope, just different hopes.  one was that unattractive nerds could get the hottie AND carry a movie in the lead.  the other was that scifi was "legit" and here to stay.  and honestly, all star wars did was show that movies masquerading as giant marketing opportunities is just as viable as ones that were story-character driven.  mega-bucks trumped artistic creativity every time for Lucas whereas "barely enough profits" was all Woody needed to keep making roughly 1 movie every year because he loved movies.

oh wipe those prequel tears away, fishstick.  Star Wars was great, and Empire Strikes Back is amazing.  Jedi kinda sucks and the prequels suck but we aren't discussing the newer films here.

And Annie Hall was just another neurotic Jew in New York movie. So Star Wars was "hero's journey bullshiat". Every story is based on something.

You're welcome. Awards only matter to the recipient. If you want "Star Wars vs. Annie Hall" outrage look at how the public treats the creators.

Woody Allen: molests his daughter while grooming his adopted daughter to be his wife; makes a movie about a neurotic New Yorker. Result: acclaimed by fans as genius and hailed as a visionary artist.

George Lucas: adopts children, donates to charities and by all accounts is an ethical man; makes a movie with Jar Jar Binks. Result: reviled by fans as a monster and will have to be buried in concrete to avoid corpse desecration.

Think on that.

By comparison, Polanski fled to escape certain conviction and sentencing for drugging and raping an underage girl. And that's why Allen gets a pass, the "evidence" mostly comes from a highly biased source.

I'm more upset for the Best Picture award itself than for Star Wars, but that's part of the price we pay when the closest thing to a high honor we have is an award given shortly after a movie is released.  If we look over a list of past winners, the movie that won quite often not the one that deserved it.

The Best Picture Oscar is sort of like the Nobel Prize for Literature in that way.  It's hard to take that award seriously when almost none of the best authors ever wins it.

The worst offender that I can remember would be Forrest Gump in 1994, which should have been Pulp Fiction IMO but others say the Shawshank Redemption which I would have also accepted but Forrest Gump was crap.

Runner up would be Shakespeare in Love in 1998.
