Yeah, even disturbing a nest can get you arrested. Stealing over 300 eggs should get him PMITA prison time. Here on the east coast of FL, they take the welfare of sea turtles seriously.

/and hes apparently repeat poaching offender? See ya...

It isn't just Florida, really weird shiat is happening in every State. I don't think it's that humans are becoming generally stupider, its that the examples presented are becoming more egregious and visible thanks to the internet.

Same here on the nc coast. If they see you get close enough to mess with one, you get cuffed.

/unless your in laws volunteer to watch nests every year.
// watching a nest hatch is really cool, they kind of just start boiling out of the ground.

On Giligans Island Mary Ann collected turtle eggs to make omletts.  But in the real world are turtle eggs tasty?  Wouldn't the shell be a bit crunchy?

They get downright fascist about the nests.

I was flying a stunt kite on a beach in Fort Lauderdale and one of the lines broke, sending the kite into a fenced off spot where a turtle has laid eggs. As I was getting the kite out - not stepping inside the fence, mind you - I had three hotel employees screaming their heads off at me. I asked them if they'd rather I left it there so the hatchlings could get caught in the line when they came out.

One of them just wouldn't let it go and puffed up on me. He was about 5'2". I'm 6'2". His coworkers talked him out of it.

Meanwhile, the maintenance guys from the motel are installing newer, brighter lights on the beach, so that drunk guests won't wander into the ocean while recreating, just about guaranteeing that the turtles can't find a dark spot to lay their nests.

Farking dipshiat poacher. Who the hell is going to buy sea turtle eggs? Is there some market for them anywhere? I bet they cure impotence. Yup, I bet that's it.  All those other endangered animals didn't work, but sea turtle eggs will.

Honestly, I have no real reason to hate sea turtles. I'm typically all for helping out an endangered species. I just tend to associate sea turtles with St. George Island, and I farking hate St. George Island. My in-laws insist upon going to that mosquito-infested hellhole every farking summer, and I get "the look" from all of them when my husband tells them that we just don't want to go. There is nothing there except for a beach, a few shops, and mosquitoes. (And holy HELL the mosquitoes!) The nearest whisper of civilization is a good 30-45 minute drive away, and EVERYTHING closes at around 8pm.

St. George Island also has sea turtles, and I dislike sea turtles because of that.
