Good. He's a good coach who has had to deal with really shiatty offensive players. Then again, as a Jets fan, I am thrilled by an 8-8 season.

Ha! That's funny because he has a foot fetish! It's clever, timely humor like this that keeps me coming back to Fark.  Good job to the admins too for getting this joke and giving it the greenlight it so richly deserves.

Typical Jets management.  Commit, sorta, kinda, to a well-liked coach.  Watch most of his staff head for the hills when they realize he only has one year left.  Then sign him to a year contract extension and hope people stop leaving.

\Not a Jets fan, but the Kotwica loss will hurt

Everybody on earth picked them to end up in the bottom 1/10th of the league this year, not in playoff contention.

Still -- and I say this as a fan -- the Jets were probably four or five plays away from being 4-12.

You know, I thought before this season he was for sure gone. However, taking that pile-of-shiat team to an 8-8 record is a season deserving of an extension if I've ever seen one.

Of course, they were also two or three plays away from 10-6 (NE and Carolina).  That's the NFL.  Most games are close.  The ability to come out on top of the close ones is the difference between a good team and a bad one.

True, but if you lend credence to the "Pythagorean" projections of wins and losses, which is used a lot more now on statistical sites like pro-football-reference.com, they are only expected to win 5.4 games this season, based on their points scored and surrendered.  Contrast this with the Cowboys and Steelers, who both outscored their opposition on the season, and thus were arguably "better" 8-8 teams than the Jets.

Of course, one could also easily argue that one or two plays could have easily led to more points for the Jets and fewer for the opposition, so it's not a perfect measure.  Still, the case remains that the Jets were rarely  really good, but were more often really bad, and it's likely that the games where they were blown out were more representative of the "true" nature of the team than the squeakers that they won.  I remain hopeful for the future of the team, because Geno has had some flashes of brilliance that I believe we can build on, and also because I like pain.

When he caused Mark Sanchez's season ending injury he should have been fired.  Just dumb luck that Geno was sometimes competent enough not the throw the season away.

They need a coach that can develop a rookie quarterback.

I don't think Geno is your guy.  Not many rookie QBs are  that bad and then develop into a 'franchise QB'

12 TDs / 21 INTs in today's NFL is awful.

Terry Bradshaw threw 4 TDs and 24 INTs his rookie season but I agree with you, Geno is not the man (which is fine by me, I hope they start him for years to come)

Different era and Bradshaw was never really that good anyway.

Still those numbers are impressive, I think he was sharing snaps as well. I'm trying to think of another more recent QB that had an awful season rookie and then went on to become a franchise QB but I'm coming up blank.

John Elway went 7 TD/ 14 INT his rookie year.

Peyton and Brees also weren't that great as rookies.
