Hey Q_J! how are you weathering the storm today?

I visited her this afternoon.
The last couple of times, she was sleeping and wouldn't wake up, so I just sat with her.

Today, she was all ready for me to pack her up and take her home.
She practically begged me to get her out of there.
Then she offered me bribe$.
$erious bribe$.

I told her that I couldn't take her today because they were predicting bad weather (true)
and that I have a doctor appointment Monday as a followup to my misadventures
that put me in the hospital over Thanksgiving (also true) and that I didn't want to take her home
in time for him to put me back in the hospital (not very likely) and have her stuck there by herself.

We'll see how it works out over time.
Thanks for asking.
and a cat...

gremlin1: HELP!
I'm trapped in my chair because Jack refuses to move.
I am stuck in the chair with Jack laying on the afghan on top of my feet. The best I can do is wiggle my toes and tell him to move. He just looks at me and puts his head down , which I guess means no.
I guess I'll have to go with a bribe. "Want a cookie?"

That always happens whenever I have to go use the restroom.  I hate moving them, so I try to wait as long as I possibly can, which usually results in me doing the pee pee dance down the hall (while Little Pie laughs her butt off, of course, because I'm THAT kind of mom).  :)

Hey, Real Women Drink Akvavit, if you're looking for tasty, fast, and healthy munchies that cooks up quickly, hit up Costco for some of their big (duh) bags of stir-fry veggies and the six-pack tins of canned chicken. They make wicked-tasty rice bowls when fried up (separately) with hoisin, soy sauce, Szechuan sauce, Sriracha, and garlic. I just made some and forgot how effing yummy it comes out. Just a thought, since I'm frantically trying to lose weight (30 pounds, go go) and I'm trying to cut back on carbs and increase veggie consumption, and that you're in a similar boat.

The ironic thing about the Sriricha situation is that I believe that the town (or maybe it was County officials) actively campaigned to get the factory to locate there!!!

<ranty threadjack>
That's what gets me the most. I can see people being a bit miffed since the town was there before the plant, but apparently it was put to a vote and the people agreed to it. It's been there for YEARS, and just now they're raising a stink. All I can guess is that Sriracha is popular and wealthy enough that they figured that they could have a snit and get paid off. I dunno, I'm just being cranky, maybe it's just one or two morans who are whining and everyone else is cool, but I'm jaded and tired of silly buggers and stupid sh*t. *Siiiiiigh.* Yet another case of "I like something so the manufacturer is either going to stop making it or will f*ck with the recipe and make it inedible." See Sobe's strawberry-carrot drink, Snapple's Elements drinks, Hostess twinkies and cupcakes, Grandma's cookies, some of my favorite small restaurants in Lodi/Stockton that closed, sodas in general...

Been a quiet Caturday this week. But then, it looks like people have either been kicked in the butt by sads or sickness. :(

And Sonny is finally eating enough to not worry me, but he STILL eats too little. He also doesn't like his meds at all, and gives me a VERY dirty look afterward, but he still waits for his treats before he patters off with sideways ears and a flicking tail, to sulk in some OTHER room. But he does still sit with me at the computer, arse-planting my keyboard in the process, so he doesn't seem mad at me for the whole meds-and-going-to-the-vet stuff. :)

Regarding the egg color debates. This is how I have learned the difference, white eggs are almost always from battery hens. They live their short lives in a very small cage, with the lights on for 23 hours a day. Hens never sleep with the lights on so "farmers" have learned to increase production by leaving the lights on. They give the hens food with additives to make the yolk have some color, and they give them other stuff to to keep them from getting ill in this very unnatural environment. The hens are stressed to the max.
Free range or even cage free birds get to walk around, interact with others and are less stressed.
Yard birds experience stress of a different nature: a hawk flies overhead, the dog gets too close, another hen takes the tasty beetle from you.
Eggs from the battery hens have more cholesterol because the hens are more stressed. I feel they are less nutritious as the hens are so depleted and fed chemical infused food to make up for it.
Yard birds eat a better diet of plants and bugs, worm, and lizards. I feed mine scratch grain and offer them lay crumbles and fresh water at all times. I can tell the eggs from the yard hens from the eggs from my speckled hens by the deep yellow/orange of the yolks.
The biggest difference is the freshness, I have used eggs in my baking that were still warm from the nest. (ran out of eggs and told the kids to run out and check the nest boxes).
Store bought eggs can be over a month old before they make it to the check out lane.

OMGs! How could I forget about the canned chicken? I usually don't do canned meats, but the canned chicken has saved my hide more than once and has an acceptably neutral flavor (but still strangely chickenish). I use it for Chicken Wing Grilled Cheese sammies (which are out for now) and things like that, but haven't bought it in a while. Thanks for the reminder of a pantry staple! Also, awesome idea. I always have rice. It's cheap and tasty. (Did you know that we export most of our rice to Japan? I don't know why that makes me puff up with pride, but it does. Even the Japanese bow to the superiority of California rice!)

I, too, like Sriracha. (I like hot sauce in general and keep many varieties on hand) Being not just a native Californian (known for our innovative thinking just as much as the fruits and nuts) but one descended from the hardiest of tribal peoples (Nordic/Germanic) who let NOTHING stand in their way, I know how to make my own Sriracha style sauce so if the Srirachalyspe ever comes to fruition, I've got us all covered. It's incredibly simple and tasty. It also reminds you why you have eye protection in your kitchen - it ain't for the cleaning agents under the sink, that's for sure.

Now, a cat, then I'll tell ya all a story of love, loss and a good scolding.

Around 3:30 when I'm going for my second cup of coffee of the morning, I see Little Moo rubbing up on the sliding glass door. I open it to give her skritches (I can do that now! she's getting semi-tame!) and a tiny bit of pre-breakfast kibbles and Gogh dashes outside. Fine. The raccoons are gone for the night and he's a big boy and it's his back yard. He strolls straight up to Little Moo and they tilt their heads and lean toward each other - their noses touch. GASP! They're kissing! AWWWWWWWW!!! Then they both sit back and look at each other for a moment and Gogh reaches out and *THWACK!* right on the top of her head. WTF, Gogh? Seriously? She ran away a bit before hiding behind my legs, her widdle feelings hurt, and I yelled at him and then told him off for beating up on girls. He sniffs other cats' tails and hits girls. I'm ashamed to admit that my cat is one of those.

I do have high hopes for getting Moo Kitty in the house, though. She's semi-feral, but the emphasis is now on the "semi" part of that, with "feral" being her dominant trait only if other people try to approach her. It's taken me a bit longer than usual because I am generally really good with cats, but it's still huge progress, all things considered.

Oh, noes! Are you OK? Is it just routine stuff, I hope? (Which is still stressful, IMO) I just went for my monthly "gimme mah drugs" appt Friday and they didn't even take blood this time. It took me longer to drive there than it did to get in back, talk to the doc (who called me "fat", like I didn't notice or something) and grab my scripts. Easiest appt EVER! I hope yours is like that, too. We all deserve a "good" visit every once in a while, don't we? YES. Yes we do.

I think all of my meds are right where they need to be right now, so as long as they don't devour my liver, I'm golden (for now). My BP was up during my visit, but I started to have a small panic attack driving there (a former huge problem for me and why I quit driving for so many years) AND I've gained a lot of weight, so the two combined are obviously not good for the ol' cardiovascular system. I'm working on both, but don't need BP meds yet, because it's the first time I've been like that in the office. When I lose weight, it will definitely help get that under control.

Need to make moar coffee soon. Which is totally NOT a contributing factor to anything, I'm sure. :-p

We passed a law about how chickens are treated in Cali a couple years back and said they need more room (among other things). Some people were like "OMG! Eggs will totally go up in price!" and I was like "OMG! I totally don't care!" and voted for it. There was some actual logic behind my "screw you" to those types, but I got tired of repeating myself. lol
