FangQ Mods & Admins for letting us have Such A Good 'Un actually Early this week!  After last week's thread's arrival was so Creatively Effected.
Such a good young laddie too; may already be a Boy Scout, or whatever a 10 year old may be there.

That was a wonderful article, very heartwarming. Welcome all Caturday friends!  Laulaja, that is a beautiful cat batik, did you make that? Very nice.  Make it a great weekend and love on those furry friends who give us so much in return.

So, so.. THIS is what Caturday is like on TF. Wow. downstairs sponsored me for a month. I already waste enough time on Fark and this is not helping. I usually look through Caturday as soon as it goes green on Saturdays. You people are...amusing.

No cats or other animals at home right now, two dogs at the Rainbow Bridge. Three "catch-and-release" strays hang around because our neighbor feeds them. One is WAY too friendly to have been born feral. She gets along better with dogs than cats, which worries me since we have seen both foxes and coyotes in our suburban subdivision.

YAY for Caturday! w00t! I am all bettah from my sick *happy dance* and have a doctor's appointment tomorrow that is nothing but "here are your prescriptions, see you next month" - not even any vampire visit this time. (No offense, P V - you're all always very nice)

Also, forgive the horrid quality, but I now have a SECOND picture of mah Mr Van Gogh Beastie. He's afraid of my camera, but he's not afraid of my MP3 players. Must like death metal. Anyway, a couple of them have cameras built into them, so I got this:

i1084.photobucket.com

I see that view every night when I am in the kitchen. Gogh looking at Moo Kitty, who is staring into the house (and still refuses to come in the house, despite being invited, because "feral cats don't do 'inside', biatch" or whatever is going through her widdle kitteh head) and at least one other cat, lurking, waiting for Moo Kitty's kibble to hit the bowl so they can brawl for it (or just wait their turn, which is the usual choice for most cats). That blob further back is Yeti, who it turns out does have a home. I don't know who or where or anything, just know he showed up freshly brushed and last time I checked, there was no kitteh grooming salon in my shrubberies (but ya never know). He also won't let me touch him/her, so it's obviously someone he considers "family" who is brushing him. They're probably wondering why he's gaining weight.

I've got to go find food for myself now, so my doctor can once again remark this is the fattest he's ever seen me. I should make browned butter blondies. OM NOM NOM NOM! Or maybe a salad.....

Hope everyone's doing good this week and we have lots of glads, no sads!

His fur really explodes into blueness when I use a flash to take his picture. That's one of the reasons I don't have as many good ones of him as I do the other boys, the only way I can get a good shot is with natural lighting.

Will thank sharbear for her kind words re the grafik I fetched in. Credit goes 150% to the late Laurel Burch, whose work still sells extremely well -- especially in the Barbershoppes aka boutiques at Sweet Adelines contests & educational events.  She did cats, dogs & horses most frequently.
Expect another transcription project to come in soon, it's been a while. Also listing deductions for 2013 taxes.
Nearly time to go curl up with warm Piiki soon; 'nother pic & bit o' salsa.

//happy Caturday:  so excited to be here from the start :-)

TGIC  !!   Sooo glad to be home..  dinner is dun..  got tons done at work, making much progress.. will be running conduit 25 ft up tomorrow .. have to pull the wiring to run all the lighting I have installed.. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel at this point..
almostsane    it,s good to see you here.. when I started lurking, I wondered how the thread would start Saturday AM with all those posts.. Alien got me started on TF: been here ever since.. great bunch of people here.. pretty much the best friends I have.... ( not a big socializer)...

Thank you :-)  I'm happy and thrilled to be here!!!  I actually jumped the gun a bit when I saw the earlier post about "Your cat thinks you're a bigger cat..." and was like "It's CATURDAY!!!  Where is everybuddy?"  Bathia_Mapes had to explain that it wasn't officially Caturday yet, that was just one of the greenlit posts.    And I was the same as you wondering about the proliferation of posts so early on Saturday morning and then realized folks were commenting on going to bed:  finally someone explained the benefits of being a TotalFarker :-)  And then it wasn't until last week I learned how to find the early Caturday party but better late than never......Thank goodness I got most of my chores done earlier as I anticipate a severe drop in productivity for the rest of the evening.

Yep, this is what Caturday is like on the TF side. Now you know why there are so many comments in the thread before it goes live on Saturday morning.

Hosted Book Club tonight and everyone is finally gone. This was Hector's first experience with a group of people and I think he got overstimulated. He couldn't decide if he should inspect the food on the coffee table or inspect the new people who came into his home so he kept bouncing around between every one and every thing until I had to give him a time out. He didn't do too bad for an 8 month old with his first group.

Got the ferals fed, almost done with my first pot of coffee so I'm starting to perk up a bit and Gogh helpfully rearranged the cupboard under my bathroom sink last night for me (he decided everything looked better on the floor), so I found a whole box of nail polish I forgot all about. Awesome! Nail polish is one of my big loves! Also got an email from an old friend in SoCal who is opening a second restaurant, this one in my area - would I like to meet for coffee and discuss seasonal menus and guests chef slots? *GASP!* Excited! I hope everyone's day turns out as awesome as mine is starting out to be!

I am not healthy enough right now and I know it. The exciting part is "guest chef slot" - so it would not be a permanent slot. It could conceivably turn into one if all parties were agreeable to it and I was physically capable of it, but it sounds like it would be a seasonal thing at this point. So I'd be given a month (or entire season) to take the helm. Design the menu, create the dishes, train the back of the house with cooking/plating my dishes, familiarize the front of the house with the dishes and then play (cook) until the next chef rotated through. Also, the place isn't open yet and she hasn't even signed a lease, so the earliest I'd be called to duty would be March or April - IF she's very fast (and unless she's changed a lot over the years, she is incredibly fast when she wants something done, usually by yesterday) and wants the first guest chef to roll in right at opening. This would give me plenty of time to either be well enough to handle it or politely decline and offer to do some consult work for her, when or if desired. Her finger is firmly on the pulse of Los Angeles, but SacTown is more like a vacation home for her. She's not very familiar with the regional culture. Having someone like me as her backup makes good sense, and that's probably why I was on her short list in the first place. I'm essentially a little Los Angeles/Sacramento hybrid. I knew being weird like that would come in handy some day!

Just peeked into the fridge to see what was available for dinner. I have ideas. Tasty, easy ideas. Will have to hit the market on my way back from the doctor's and pharmacy, but that's OK. I like lurking in produce departments of grocery stores. Those are some of my favorite places in the world. When the apocalypse comes, that's where I want to be hanging out - right by the avocados and artichokes. :-p

Thank you! I am actually doing that booty wiggle happy display at random times because of this opportunity. Have been since I got the email (and no one is awake to witness it except the cats!) I KNOW it is awesome and I can hardly wait for our coffee meeting. She's got this beat up old car named "Mata Cari" that is really just a cloaking device for the most awesome stereo system I've ever seen in a car. So we'll talk food, nail polish, this opportunity for moi and then swap CDs. It will be fun, no matter what. Also, I've already rummaged through my steno pads and put my two latest in my backpack, so I'll have some personal props to share. I did some gastropub type stuff over the summer I want her to check out. It is a pretty solid testament to my ability to walk into any kitchen and work with what's already there - and come up with sensible, tasty and sometimes surprising menus. Surprising in a good way, not a "get me to the ER" way. lol!

Found that the LRHG's name is Heather, & she's the one character in strip Charles Schultz never drew.

also, congrats RWDA...

Let's not get ahead of ourselves now. lol! But thanks! I know I totally have this if I can stay healthy enough to take it without jeopardizing myself or the kitchen and its regular denizens! We iz meeting for coffee tomorrow. I told her "You do realize that is Caturday, right?" and she says "The sacrifices we make for our craft should serve as an inspiration to all". We both agreed our pictures should be hung in every culinary school in the land, so great was our sacrifice. Patron saints of overworked and under-appreciated kitchen martyrs staff or something like that. The faux arrogance is astounding sometimes, which makes it fun.

Foo Chan's disappointment in us all is so emotionally exhausting, he can't even summon the strength to get up and write bad goth poetry (as if there's any other kind of goth poetry). :-(

Tziva: HI GUYS WHATS UP

Welcome to Caturday. I have you favorited as 'knife girl' no doubt from some knife thread a couple/few weeks ago. What's up is I had a hellish week, but went in early today so my weekend started at 3 instead of 7. I am acquainting myself with a freshly purchased bottle of alcohol and will probably post something here on Fark tonite that I will regret tomorrow. The good news is that it won't be here on Caturday. Cheers!

If there's one thing I like as much as Caturday threads, it's knife threads.

Anyway, I haven't been around Caturdays in a month or two.  How's everyone!

Back home from Michigan, made the trip between snowstorms.  This is stepmom's cat, named Cat.  She showed up as an adult stray about 3 years ago, dad and stepmom took her in.  She's never presented them with kittens, so presumably a spayed pet that someone decided to dump on the farm.  I'm glad she's there now to keep my stepmom company, harder to be depressed with warm furry hugs all the time.

Good to know you made it home safe and sound. Just sorry for the reason you had to go.
It's nice to know that your stepmom has someone to keep her company. Cat gives her someone to talk to.
After my Dad passed away I used to drop Baby off at Mom's house on my way to work and pick her up on my way home. Mom didn't want a dog full time so that worked out well for some companionship it also gave me the ability to check up on Mom on a regular basis.

Luckily her grandaughter and great-grandkids are just a couple miles away, and stop by every day, and my stepsister is there frequently too.  And the neighbors look out for her too, and come plow the snow out of the driveway for her.  Its never easy, but she has a good support group around her.

Today was a PA day for my daughter, so I played hooky and we all went to the zoo, we needed to renew out membership anyway as well.  Other than a lot of the African animals spend most of the winter inside, it's a great time to go and almost have the whole place to yourself too...

Ah, good shows in Bangor.  Wanna get up that way this summer, if doable.

I remember a friend who about 30 years ago had at-shirt with the blue webbed feet said "I love b**bies" (trying to avoid the "warp").  He said he'd gotten slapped a few times for it.  I actually believed it. Then.  It wouldn't happen these days.  Social mores have changed quite a lot.

We havn't been in years. Not really our cuppa tea, both musically and foodily. Plus the way the attendance figures are hugely inflated is absurd. Yeah, we get it, a lot of people are in town. But not the numbers they try to get us to swallow. Hype taken to a PhD level.

Scaring the hell out of the Snowy Owl was this Red Tailed hawk, (not actually part of the zoo) circling over the owls space only about 40' up. (!)

honestly the only one I have issue with is Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Very solemn and the joyous occassions for my faith. ( first one, then the other). When I go to the Living Stations..makes me weep..and then, Easter Sunday? Joyous Music. Celebration. It is, for me, the high light of the entire liturgical season. That will be one weekend that I will be scarce...

Please believe me when I say I respect your beliefs. However....they are not my beliefs. And I would never post anything that is personally insulting to anyone on purpose, because I am basically a kind and caring person. But I tend to find some really weird stuff quite humorous, and if I ever post something that you don't like, or care for, please feel free to just skip past it. Two of the nine heathens here are reeeally into this shiat!
Mystery is fairly easygoing....7 +/- pounds, stands relatively still, and is pretty 'quiet'...until I stop and she gives me 'what-for'!
i975.photobucket.com

But...Lucky...whooo Boy! He gets 'maniacal eyes & face'...kinda like that Jack dude in the movie "The Shining". And, I'm not done until he says so! He howls & yowls and squirms pretty rough while holding on to my arms. I have to gradually slow down to end the 'session' or else he'll rip open my skin!
And I'm pretty sure this fluffy chub weighs in around 30 pounds. He only gets a good 'bonking' maybe once a week.... I'm thinking I might try 2 flyswatters..... cut the handle down a bit (?)

Good meowning, everybuddy! I been awake for a few hours already because I is excited for mah coffee meeting with LA Chef Woman today! Also, my doctor yesterday called me "fat". I know, dude! I'm not working like I used to work or riding a skateboard everywhere. Of COURSE I've gotten fat. So I guess I have to adjust my eating habits until I get healthy enough to run amok again. Dammit. I'll just look at this whole "healthy eating" thing as a new adventure. A forced adventure through vast fields of suckage. Instead of grilled cheese and pear sammich on cinnamon swirl bread for my breakfast, I guess I just eat the pear and some lowfat or nonfat yogurt or an egg or something. I'll figure it out. I'm not the smartest person ever, but I'm not a complete idiot either (I hope).

Everyone have a good day today, puh-leeeze! It should be good. The forecast calls for mewbies at Domari's place! I didn't see an update that there were more than the two. If there are, I look forward to seein' 'em!

If you or your furry lords and ladies (or hoomin loved ones) have been sickly - let us know you are all bettah, please! I know there are a more than a couple of us having issues of assorted types but I always confuse *who* is having *what* issue when I mean to ask how someone is doing. I can rattle it all off very effectively when I'm away from the keyboard, but right now - total blank. I am thinking and hoping and toesie crossing for everyone, even if I don't always say anything. Here, take this small token of my affection for my Caturday fambly (even you lurkers - we know you are there!).

I want to thank everyone for the condolences, You people are wonderfully caring.
When we were going through the boxes of photos at my dad's I came across this.  This is Casey, gone for many years now.  She was incredibly smart, and raised a litter of kittens once when their mother was killed.  She was a Gordon Setter, lived to be 17 I believe.  If I ever come across another one available for adoption, it will come home with me.

Bottom of page one, but wanted to share something that happened today at work.

I work as a mailman.. er, person.. er, I deliver normal mail for a living. Because I've been on the same route for over two years, I know many of the people and pets. In the last few months, a few of the indoor/outdoor cats on my route have taken to greeting me as I walk past their home and will walk with me on the part of my route that falls within their territory.

Today, one took it a bit further.

On my route, there is a house with a legally blind lady. She is usually very nice, has a wonderful yellow lab as a guide dog, and has an adorable cat who is blind in one eye. That cat decided I was another slave today: he mewed and mewed, then Mrowed (yes, loudly enough to earn that capitalization!) until I followed him back to his house and rang the doorbell. When his human answered the door I got to explain, in slightly broken Dutch, that her cat hijacked me to get the door open. She thought that it hilarious and thanked me for acting as a kitty delivery person, LOL!

It really cracks me up when I see others call their cats 'Heathens'.  Louie and Hermie became the heathens the day they arrived in my house at the age of 6 weeks.  I know it is what Ellie called them.  And still calls them that.  Of course she puts a few dirty words in front of that.....

jso2897: "He has a soft spot for rescue animals," she said. "I think it's an amazing thing, a sacrifice like this."

Semantic question - why do we refer to the character attribute of compassion as a "soft spot", as if it were some sort of weakness?

It is a testament to the sad state of humanity that an act of kindness is not just considered by some to be a weakness, but it is also news worthy when it happens. Compassion, empathy, right action for the good of the wider society, including its animal companions/partners - that should be the default position for any human. From my own experiences with small kids, it IS the default position for most of them. They're either budding little psychos right out of the womb, which is exceedingly rare from what I've seen, or they're taught to be something other than compassionate and empathetic over time. It's a cultural problem at its core (IMO, but what do I know? Not a whole lot, when it comes right down to it.) I'm just glad that good nature and tender heart is still around at all, even as I am sad it's a news worthy event due to its rarity.

happy caturday!

actually, my caturday is bittersweet at best.  my beloved snowball has a pretty serious tumor in one of her legs.  if it weren't for the limp, though, you'd never know anything was wrong with her.  she's her usual sweet self, normal appetite, affectionate, &c.  i have her on some pain meds and those seem to be helping her get around.

she's going to see the oncologist on monday, and i'm just wondering if any of my fellow caturday farkers have had any experience with this - i.e., amputations, radiation or chemo, should it come to that.  i know every case is different, but any insight anyone might have to share would be greatly appreciated.

fortunately, she has health insurance, so i'm only 20% out of pocket for whatever it will cost to make her better, that is if treatment is even an option.

One of these days I'll be bothered to re-up my TF subscription. Once I'm back at work, so I can justify wasting hours online, anyway. Mostly just so I can get into Caturday early again, since I've actually got a kitty-related question and wanna get it asked before the thread is flooded. :P

Long story short, Sonny was diagnosed back in October with some kind of faucitis (spelling?...), an autoimmune disorder where tartar buildup on his teeth causes severe gum irritation and pain. He had to have a couple of teeth pulled then, and then a few more yesterday because he was doing very poorly; wasn't grooming because it hurt his mouth, wasn't eating because of the same, etc. (It's either teeth pulling or lifetime cortisone shots, and I'd rather he eat tasty soft food than deal with the negative side effects of long-term steroid injections. :-\) He was looking kinda scraggly and skinny, but he's doing MUCH better the day after, has eaten some gooshy and is now sprawled across the hubby's mouse arm while he plays a game, purring and giving us both happy squints.

Still, I'm still worried that he doesn't eat enough regardless, and I want to find some kind of, well, kitty medical marijuana. An appetite stimulant. His chubby brother, however, has no trouble. (*Sigh.*) Fortunately, he's been eating all of the soft foods I've been buying, and likes the soft treats I found, so that's a good sign. They really seem to like the chunky or shredded stuff in a gravy or soup better than the tinned pate stuff. However, Sassy is a fat little troll and will lick that gravy/soup off first, leaving the chunky bits behind to dry out, which I add hot water to later to keep it from going bad. :D

But yeah, so, has anyone heard of/used anything that encourages their cat to eat more? Sonny has always been slim, but I'd like to see him put on some healthy weight. *Snerk.* And the hubby just announced to me that Sonny is having very happy dreams, as the foot pressed against his arm is twitching furiously while he's sprawled over the mouse cable. D'awwwww. :)

Oh, and a quick shout-out to Hardin Animal Hospital, you guys rock, thanks for taking such good care of my Sonny-bunny. :) While I was there I tried (unsuccessfully) to get some pictures of the resident office kitty, Carl. He strolled into the waiting room after I handed Sonny over to one of the assistants (howling his displeasure the entire time), and promptly headbutted my shins. All I got were blurry, fuzzy pictures, and these two were the best. He looks like a slightly smaller version of Biscuit, with the same copper eyes.

i60.photobucket.com
i60.photobucket.com

After several minutes of intense, purring scritches I had to give him to one of the assistants so I could get out the door, as I'm very sure that he'd have followed me all the way to the car. :)

Oh well, time to finish my coffee and try to be useful today. In the meantime, have some kitty-in-a-kitty-tree pics. To make up for the Wall of Text.

Heh, i r gurl, so CSS would be appropriate. I can't wait for the next day I run into the cats at work, though: I think the lady cat was watching and may try to manipulate me into ringing her doorbell, too.

RWDA: I channeled your chef-ness a bit, today. We get a 'vegitable bag' from the local bio store each week, and this one came with zucchini (sp?) which hubby really doesn't like. I grated one, with half a huge carrot, and a medium size onion. Then put all of them in a towel and squeezed them dry(er.) In a bowl, I combined a beaten egg, 2 tbls self-rising flour, salt and pepper, and then added in the veggies. Fried them on a medium-high heat in a thin layer of oil. Hubby bravely faced his icky food enemy and tried it, then finished a whole one, and before I knew it had eaten four! Yay! He even said I should make them more often, and possibly add them to hot breakfasts, too. So thanks for the inspiration ;) And good luck with your coffee date.

Good morning Caturday folks.  Finally back after vacation out east.  Polar vortex aside, good to have time off to visit family.  Was even told that mum does have pictures of her previous overlords, but they will have to be located later this year now that her office is all reorganized so she can clear out some inventory from her store (one of the reasons she wanted me out there: to move furniture)
Since I didn't get those photos, I thought I'd upload at least one of the critters from vacation, so here is Luka:

img.fark.net

Luka belongs to my parent's best friend, and stays over with my folks quite often (every month or so).  A purebred Shetland Sheepdog, Luka may be the best trained dog I've ever known.  He barks at only 3 things: other dogs, people at the door, and squirrels (which must be called 'dragons', as he's figured out what squirrel means)  Luka was overjoyed to have someone new to take him on his walks, especially since he's not made to slow down if I'm with him, it just means I have to pick up the pace.  Like any good herder, Luka tracks where everyone is in the house, and sits/lies down somewhere where he can see everyone in the house, or can see where they went, if they had to go to another room.  As my stepfather put it: "I'm not a pet person, but if I could, I'd take Luka in a heartbeat"

I'll stop rambling on about the goggie and get back to the important things today, like reading the whole thread, and maybe running some errands.

I am so sorry Snowball and you are going through this. I found an amazing Yahoo group called VAS which stands for Vaccine Associated Sarcoma. You just have to ask them for membership. Whether or not Snowball's tumor was caused by a vaccine or not, they have a wealth of information about amputations and treatments for cancer. Please keep us posted. RWDA - I've mostly switched to healthy cooking & now pride myself on making healthy taste GREAT!  I figure if I can convince my guy and a 14 year old to eat healthy, I must be doing SOMETHING right!  Feel free to send me a message (my handle at yahoo dot com) and we can chat about it if you'd like :)  BTW, I do still use real butter, olive oil, avocado oil, real cheese, etc.  It's nice to know the real stuff is really a lot healthier for you!

This week has been rather stressful and busy.  I'm in the middle of planning for two classes I will help facilitate for work.  One starts next week, the other we're still developing and starts in April.  Also in the middle of tax hell for the business.  I've been doing well with putting stuff into Quickbooks, but I had some stuff entered into wrong categories and there are some things I need to add... We also talked to the bank yesterday about a new loan... that didn't quite go according to plan, but the advisor gave us some great advice, and if we work it right we won't need to get an extra loan after all.  Like she said, as far as the banks are concerned, we own our business free and clear (our loan is a private one with my mom), and she didn't think it would be a good idea to put all of it up just to gain (maybe) enough to help us for an extra 3ish months.  Now we have a lot of work to do!  It's right on the verge of taking off - starting to get accounts, our Etsy page is getting a lot more hits and we're starting to get some requests, we are getting repeat customers... looks like it's going in the right direction!

Ok, cats... Both of ours are happily napping at the moment.  Lars has suddenly become VERY interested in the water in the sink.  Not sure why that happened all of a sudden (he's 7, so he's seen it all before, right?!)  Cassie knows I'm stressed and being extra snuggly, which is lovely.

Yay for ratties!!!

Good afternoon Caturday folk.  Been an interesting week here at the B4 house.  First off, things are going well around here.  Job is great, fur babies are absolutely insane, and there is another "date" lined up next weekend.  Unfortunately, there was an accident the other day that scared the hell out of me, but everything is OK now.  Woke up Thursday morning, had to go to the bathroom, then suddenly found myself on the floor with a massive headache and face covered with blood.  Got myself cleaned up, ran myself through a quick stroke checklist, then woke up the neighbor and asked them to take me to the hospital.  Checked out OK, just a minor concussion.  Best guess is that I passed a kidney stone, which made me pass out, then fell and hit my head on something.  Luckily no stitches or major injury, just a really bad headache, and my left eye was swollen shut.  Guess after a few days of really good feelings, a little bit of clouds had to enter at some point.  I'm fine now, face is still a little sore, and I have a little fear of going in the bathroom, but no further issues.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Here's my first ever contribution to Caturday! Here is Porter, he's an 8 year old rescue and likes to beg for treats (or anything else I pull out of the fridge)

Hi!  Thanks for stopping by.  Cyber-scritches to Porter.

That's cool.  These stories restore my faith in kids.  Somewhat.  Kids in general, I mean.

Tsk-ooohhh... you know what I mean. :)

This is NOT a cat, I know that.....but he lives with 5 of them so I think he is an honorary cat.  Dyson, doing this best jazz hands.  It still makes me laugh!

Yeah, when kids do something like this it dampens my 'People Suck' mentality and gives me a tiny bit of hope.

Nexxi: I want to thank everyone for the condolences, You people are wonderfully caring.

And sunset on the beach of Lake Michigan, because I go nowhere without at least one camera with me.  That's Ice floes piled up on the beach.

Good girl.

A good friend of mine is into Gordons.  Rarely less than two in her house at all times.  I believe she is in touch with rescuers here and there.  EIP.

One of the fluffy furballs while I was home to visit the folks for the holidays.  They seem to like you more when you have chicken and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals for them to eat.
