happy caturday!

actually, my caturday is bittersweet at best.  my beloved snowball has a pretty serious tumor in one of her legs.  if it weren't for the limp, though, you'd never know anything was wrong with her.  she's her usual sweet self, normal appetite, affectionate, &c.  i have her on some pain meds and those seem to be helping her get around.

she's going to see the oncologist on monday, and i'm just wondering if any of my fellow caturday farkers have had any experience with this - i.e., amputations, radiation or chemo, should it come to that.  i know every case is different, but any insight anyone might have to share would be greatly appreciated.

fortunately, she has health insurance, so i'm only 20% out of pocket for whatever it will cost to make her better, that is if treatment is even an option.

One of these days I'll be bothered to re-up my TF subscription. Once I'm back at work, so I can justify wasting hours online, anyway. Mostly just so I can get into Caturday early again, since I've actually got a kitty-related question and wanna get it asked before the thread is flooded. :P

Long story short, Sonny was diagnosed back in October with some kind of faucitis (spelling?...), an autoimmune disorder where tartar buildup on his teeth causes severe gum irritation and pain. He had to have a couple of teeth pulled then, and then a few more yesterday because he was doing very poorly; wasn't grooming because it hurt his mouth, wasn't eating because of the same, etc. (It's either teeth pulling or lifetime cortisone shots, and I'd rather he eat tasty soft food than deal with the negative side effects of long-term steroid injections. :-\) He was looking kinda scraggly and skinny, but he's doing MUCH better the day after, has eaten some gooshy and is now sprawled across the hubby's mouse arm while he plays a game, purring and giving us both happy squints.

Still, I'm still worried that he doesn't eat enough regardless, and I want to find some kind of, well, kitty medical marijuana. An appetite stimulant. His chubby brother, however, has no trouble. (*Sigh.*) Fortunately, he's been eating all of the soft foods I've been buying, and likes the soft treats I found, so that's a good sign. They really seem to like the chunky or shredded stuff in a gravy or soup better than the tinned pate stuff. However, Sassy is a fat little troll and will lick that gravy/soup off first, leaving the chunky bits behind to dry out, which I add hot water to later to keep it from going bad. :D

But yeah, so, has anyone heard of/used anything that encourages their cat to eat more? Sonny has always been slim, but I'd like to see him put on some healthy weight. *Snerk.* And the hubby just announced to me that Sonny is having very happy dreams, as the foot pressed against his arm is twitching furiously while he's sprawled over the mouse cable. D'awwwww. :)

Oh, and a quick shout-out to Hardin Animal Hospital, you guys rock, thanks for taking such good care of my Sonny-bunny. :) While I was there I tried (unsuccessfully) to get some pictures of the resident office kitty, Carl. He strolled into the waiting room after I handed Sonny over to one of the assistants (howling his displeasure the entire time), and promptly headbutted my shins. All I got were blurry, fuzzy pictures, and these two were the best. He looks like a slightly smaller version of Biscuit, with the same copper eyes.

i60.photobucket.com
i60.photobucket.com

After several minutes of intense, purring scritches I had to give him to one of the assistants so I could get out the door, as I'm very sure that he'd have followed me all the way to the car. :)

Oh well, time to finish my coffee and try to be useful today. In the meantime, have some kitty-in-a-kitty-tree pics. To make up for the Wall of Text.

Spinnyr: laulaja: Took summat similar foto of Wakko to one of Porter's tum requesting rubs/skritches earlier today. Several still on camera disk needing Oot.[i.imgur.com image 167x126]
Regret small size of this, snatched from imgur. Called Drumroll Please by allywarner who posted, both there & on reddit. Original was huge, natch. Part of my transit cure may be take stuff Oot from Downloads, then save from here in right size, unless they end in Downloads again.  This sorta recent development, not esp fancied.
Also no GoodyNight FM pic, this must do.  Dunno what Ally calls her the subject, but sure is gloriously furry isn't she!
C Yez in daylit daylight. zzzzzzz.....

But...Lucky...whooo Boy! He gets 'maniacal eyes & face'...kinda like that Jack dude in the movie "The Shining". And, I'm not done until he says so! He howls & yowls and squirms pretty rough while holding on to my arms. I have to gradually slow down to end the 'session' or else he'll rip open my skin!
And I'm pretty sure this fluffy chub weighs in around 30 pounds. He only gets a good 'bonking' maybe once a week.... I'm thinking I might try 2 flyswatters..... cut the handle down a bit (?)

Heh, i r gurl, so CSS would be appropriate. I can't wait for the next day I run into the cats at work, though: I think the lady cat was watching and may try to manipulate me into ringing her doorbell, too.

RWDA: I channeled your chef-ness a bit, today. We get a 'vegitable bag' from the local bio store each week, and this one came with zucchini (sp?) which hubby really doesn't like. I grated one, with half a huge carrot, and a medium size onion. Then put all of them in a towel and squeezed them dry(er.) In a bowl, I combined a beaten egg, 2 tbls self-rising flour, salt and pepper, and then added in the veggies. Fried them on a medium-high heat in a thin layer of oil. Hubby bravely faced his icky food enemy and tried it, then finished a whole one, and before I knew it had eaten four! Yay! He even said I should make them more often, and possibly add them to hot breakfasts, too. So thanks for the inspiration ;) And good luck with your coffee date.

Good morning Caturday folks.  Finally back after vacation out east.  Polar vortex aside, good to have time off to visit family.  Was even told that mum does have pictures of her previous overlords, but they will have to be located later this year now that her office is all reorganized so she can clear out some inventory from her store (one of the reasons she wanted me out there: to move furniture)
Since I didn't get those photos, I thought I'd upload at least one of the critters from vacation, so here is Luka:

img.fark.net

Luka belongs to my parent's best friend, and stays over with my folks quite often (every month or so).  A purebred Shetland Sheepdog, Luka may be the best trained dog I've ever known.  He barks at only 3 things: other dogs, people at the door, and squirrels (which must be called 'dragons', as he's figured out what squirrel means)  Luka was overjoyed to have someone new to take him on his walks, especially since he's not made to slow down if I'm with him, it just means I have to pick up the pace.  Like any good herder, Luka tracks where everyone is in the house, and sits/lies down somewhere where he can see everyone in the house, or can see where they went, if they had to go to another room.  As my stepfather put it: "I'm not a pet person, but if I could, I'd take Luka in a heartbeat"

I'll stop rambling on about the goggie and get back to the important things today, like reading the whole thread, and maybe running some errands.

I am so sorry Snowball and you are going through this. I found an amazing Yahoo group called VAS which stands for Vaccine Associated Sarcoma. You just have to ask them for membership. Whether or not Snowball's tumor was caused by a vaccine or not, they have a wealth of information about amputations and treatments for cancer. Please keep us posted. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me. (My name at yahoo dot com)

RWDA - I've mostly switched to healthy cooking & now pride myself on making healthy taste GREAT!  I figure if I can convince my guy and a 14 year old to eat healthy, I must be doing SOMETHING right!  Feel free to send me a message (my handle at yahoo dot com) and we can chat about it if you'd like :)  BTW, I do still use real butter, olive oil, avocado oil, real cheese, etc.  It's nice to know the real stuff is really a lot healthier for you!

This week has been rather stressful and busy.  I'm in the middle of planning for two classes I will help facilitate for work.  One starts next week, the other we're still developing and starts in April.  Also in the middle of tax hell for the business.  I've been doing well with putting stuff into Quickbooks, but I had some stuff entered into wrong categories and there are some things I need to add... We also talked to the bank yesterday about a new loan... that didn't quite go according to plan, but the advisor gave us some great advice, and if we work it right we won't need to get an extra loan after all.  Like she said, as far as the banks are concerned, we own our business free and clear (our loan is a private one with my mom), and she didn't think it would be a good idea to put all of it up just to gain (maybe) enough to help us for an extra 3ish months.  Now we have a lot of work to do!  It's right on the verge of taking off - starting to get accounts, our Etsy page is getting a lot more hits and we're starting to get some requests, we are getting repeat customers... looks like it's going in the right direction!

Ok, cats... Both of ours are happily napping at the moment.  Lars has suddenly become VERY interested in the water in the sink.  Not sure why that happened all of a sudden (he's 7, so he's seen it all before, right?!)  Cassie knows I'm stressed and being extra snuggly, which is lovely.

Yay for ratties!!!

Good afternoon Caturday folk.  Been an interesting week here at the B4 house.  First off, things are going well around here.  Job is great, fur babies are absolutely insane, and there is another "date" lined up next weekend.  Unfortunately, there was an accident the other day that scared the hell out of me, but everything is OK now.  Woke up Thursday morning, had to go to the bathroom, then suddenly found myself on the floor with a massive headache and face covered with blood.  Got myself cleaned up, ran myself through a quick stroke checklist, then woke up the neighbor and asked them to take me to the hospital.  Checked out OK, just a minor concussion.  Best guess is that I passed a kidney stone, which made me pass out, then fell and hit my head on something.  Luckily no stitches or major injury, just a really bad headache, and my left eye was swollen shut.  Guess after a few days of really good feelings, a little bit of clouds had to enter at some point.  I'm fine now, face is still a little sore, and I have a little fear of going in the bathroom, but no further issues.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

When we were going through the boxes of photos at my dad's I came across this.  This is Casey, gone for many years now.  She was incredibly smart, and raised a litter of kittens once when their mother was killed.  She was a Gordon Setter, lived to be 17 I believe.  If I ever come across another one available for adoption, it will come home with me.
