As for what I'm looking forward to in 2014? Endings, mostly. Tite Kubo's sustained hit Bleach is winding down.

Bleach has ended. Ended last year with [spoilers]

Ichigo using whatever the hell the current powers are using objects, killing the main villain (ex soul reaper) who is trying to steal his powers and having all of the captains and LT's, including the Head Capt donate some of their soul power to bring back his full fighting force (and then some).

/Was a good way to finish off the story.
//Didnt read the manga, just watched them on anilinkz.com
///As I have said before and I will say again, if you enjoy anime watch Steins;Gate. Its worth it.

Mugato: Is it 2002 already?

No, it's still 1993 and Kurt Cobain is still alive, Grunge is still king, mom isn't sick and life is still beautiful.

Next month, I get to marathon the entire series with my girlfriend and one of our mutual friends. Neither of them have seen any Firefly, but have both long wanted to. I have the whole series on Blueray, and Serenity as well. Going to do a whole day of drinking, eating, and watching. Mint a couple of new Browncoats. I'm looking forward to that--haven't watched the series straight through in a couple of years.

Peter Capaldi's Doctor is the most important one for me.  I know he won't be allowed to curse, but now that he's saved all those kids perhaps The Doctor won't feel the need to act like one himself *quite* so much.

In other words, I'm looking forward to a Doctor who at least knows why curse words might be valuable in certain situations, even if he doesn't use them.

/and I'm releasing a comic next year
//but that's my personal geekery, not exactly a giant leap for nerd kind

2014-01-17 01:26:41 AM
DnD Next should not be on anyone's list. Except maybe the list of things that suck...

The new Star Wars stuff is excellent though!

Damn list tricked me, when I saw "Maximum Overdrive" I was thinking they were remaking that movie (again, since there was a Made for Video version called "Trucks" just like the original short story was named), but sadly it's just another cartoon zombie hunting game.

Yeah... I tried that on myself, and ended up hating the show all the way through to the fifth episode before finally quitting, because it was like some kind of self-inflicted torture. So good luck, there. Maybe they'll love it, or maybe by the end of the day they'll hate you.

List did nothing for me.

I'm looking forward to more Marvel Studios movies, and cautiously looking forward to the next WoW expansion, but not too soon; I've got way too far to go on the Legendary storylines.  I'm not sure about the Diablo III expansion, but having an angel as the villain this time is a switch.

It's not the actual AH that was the problem, it was the associated rate of decent loot drops that sucked. If decent items dropped at the same rate as D2, the AH would have been flooded with uber cheap awesome items, which would make the game pointless if you bought them.

2014-01-17 03:09:35 AM
I saw Sunset Overdrive, a game no one knows ANYTHING about yet; a game that, as far as I remember, doesn't even have a vertical slice ready to go, and I closed it. That entire list has been bought and paid for.

At least you warned about spoilers I am doing a marathon watching of Breaking Bad and just about to start Season 4. They gave away the mid season ending of 5 without warning.

The only thing this year I am dissapointed about is Bruce Campbell is coming to the Ottawa Comiccon but I won't be able to see him. The good news is I will be in Hawaii.

Noah?  WTF?

That seems completely random.  Also, every one of those actors/actresses are whiter than sheet (as am I).  How are they going to play brown people from the middle east?

I guess I didn't even read far enough to see the D3 expansion and I can't seem to find if it will be hitting consoles at the same time.

They've both been begging me to do a marathon for close to a year. If they get sick of it, it's not like I'm going to say "no, wait, you must like it!" We can always turn it off.

If you weren't on board with Firefly after the "kicking the henchmen in to the engine" scene,

1) don't bother watching any further.

2) you have horrible taste.

Hebalo: If you weren't on board with Firefly after the "kicking the henchmen in to the engine" scene,

Eh.  I started watching Firefly a year or so ago after reading all the wankery on here.  Got about halfway through the first episode before the cheesy (purposefully or not) Western stuff started to irritate me, as well as the bland stereotypes for each character.  I watched it again a few months later, pushed my way through the first few episodes, and ... I liked it.  Not loved it, not buying action figures of it, not writing letters or signing petitions for it, but it was actually somewhat okay (although they didn't need the prostitute for the show).

So.  Yeah.  It was good, but not great.  I at once get the fanboys who love it (same as those who grew up with me listening to Nirvana--the "gone too soon" syndrome), and I get the people who don't like it (let's face it, some of the plots were kinda insufferable).

Bleach ended? Yay, finally!

Now, in only about another decade, the multitude of Bleach cosplayers will finally start to dwindle. Took about that long for me not to be assaulted by all the Inuyashas around every hotel corner.

I know, I know. StoplikingwhatIdon'tlike. I had to chime in.

Yep.

Fifteen years ago, things labelled "geek" or "nerd" were likely to be at least moderately interesting, since they were labels things had to earn by appealing to actual people.  Now, they're just advertising buzzwords designed to make people feel like they've earned the same cultural cachet built up by the internet pioneers.  The terms are mostly wielded by people who are pretty tone deaf to the actual nerdy/geeky scene, which has always consisted of outsiders, not the corporate establishment, and that's why stuff like Homestuck and D&D will remain more "authentic" than the latest hundred million dollar special effects movie or overpriced telephone or heavily-advertised-yet-boring video game.

2014-01-17 12:21:23 PM

NetOwl: ...the same cultural cachet built up by the internet pioneers...

Because the terms "nerd" and "geek" never applied to anyone before the advent of the Internet? That there weren't nerds and geeks in science, math and other subjects long before Al Gore was spanking it over his 1200 baud?
