Ha! I was wondering if Gak! would be in there. Stained many a wall in my youth with that stuff.

I'm sure they also buried a cold virus that'll kill everyone after it's wild counterpart is eliminated in the 20s.

Just looking at that picture flooded my nostrils with Gak stench.

Home Alone and Back to the Future on VHS.

Well, that'll be useful to the future. Might as well have put in piano rolls instead of the MC Hammer and Michael Jackson CDs.

One of Joey Lawrence's "Whoa! 92" hats, which he stopped by to present

I remember Joey Lawrence, and even his stupid catch phrase from "Blossom," but was it really so pervasive that it warranted hats? I'll give him bonus points for putting the date on, in recognition of the fleeting and ephemeral nature of such things, but still -- did anyone in 1992 buy a Joey Lawrence "Whoa" hat?

a copy of the Book of Endangered Species

Bet half of those are already gone, and we're not even halfway to 2042 yet.

20. A videotape which was a recording of the live ceremony, shot by a girl named Vicky who stood onstage to operate the Kid Cam.
21. The camera recording the tape: This appears to have been unplanned. Mike O'Malley and Joey Lawrence both looked baffled about how to remove the tape from the camera, so the whole setup was tossed in at the last minute.

Ok, that's pretty good.

Lame. Opening it early was lame too.

I vaguely remember when this was happening. I was 11 at the time... I cannot remember if we called in to vote, though.

I hope that I am alive when it is opened, I would love to see the reactions of the kids.

Isn't this, like, 87% of what a time capsule is supposed to be about?  Putting things in that are important to the time, but we know will be so outdated when it's opened that it will be worth a good laugh?  Did you want them to put it on a 16GB SD card?

Sweet Jesus. There is always the repeat complainer.

Here's a concept that I think needs to be understood: Not everyone spends 24/7 on the internet. Some of us actually have lives. If it's a repeat to you, it's fresh to someone else. If it's a second repeat for you, walk outside an enjoy the sunshine (apply as much sunblock as needed depending on the last time you have seen natural light).

If they didn't know how to remove the videotape, they probably also did not remove the battery. After 50 years, it's likely to be messy. I wonder how much of the capsule will be damaged.

That's weird. I was thinking about that time capsule for absolutely no reason at all yesterday, just popped into my head.

Yeah, it's sad they closed that place down. It looked like the most awesome place in the world when I was a kid. I've never found out why they closed it. Off to the Googles I go.

The crew most likely unearthed it after the ceremony and tidied it up so things like battery leakage and moisture damage wouldn't happen.

A day or so before the 2042 unearthing, they'll pull it out of the concrete, clean the packing material out, and put it back in the hole so it can look good for the cameras.

Welcome to TV Magic!

Well, they would have also needed to pull the camera out to get the footage form the kid cam that they had in the video clip.

We'll go find comparable items from 1964, bury them in a capsule, and gather some kids up for the unearthing.  Most of the kids will say "meh."   The people in their  60s and 70s will love it.

Had a lot of fun with Gak as a kid. It was great for making fart sounds, which you could then record with a tape recorder.
