Gilligan's Island is a very polarizing show. People either think it's the most hilarious thing ever, or the worst show ever to be broadcast, and a clear sign of the downfall of our civilization as we know it. The Network execs hated it when it originally broadcast, and were dying to cancel it as quickly as possible, but the ratings were always very good, so they couldn't justify it until it became too expensive to keep in production. Personally I always found it to be really funny. RIP Professor.

Shut up. If you hate Gilligan's Island you are a communist and need to be send to Gitmo or some island somewhere to learn what it's like.

Well, the millionaire, the Skipper and "Little Buddy" kind of left the field open to the only straight man on the island, don'tcha think?

My mom has told me about how when she was growing up she'd get home from school and she'd do her chores as fast as she could so she could watch Gilligan's Island. Dying at 89 doesn't seem that bad cause that's a good long life.

I'd have thought she'd be instructing Ginger & Mary Ann on what to do and giving it her approval or her not-good-enough face. Spankings would follow the latter. Of course.

True but Mary Ann was a Dom with willing Subs in the Professor and Ginger.

Because if there's one show out there that needs a remake, it's Gilligan's Island. Am I right? No!

Besides, they did a remake, and called it Lost.

When they got off the island and then celebrated by taking another three hour tour and ended back up on the island, at that point I think you've got to string the Skipper up.

I had a chance to meet Russell Johnson a few times in the 90's. I worked in the high stakes game of Sci-Fi/TV convention security, and he  did the rounds. He was very nice to the fans, witty as hell, and an amazing bartender IRL. It's a shame he got so typecast, but it didn't seem to bother him by then anyway. R.I.P.

...watching his Twilight Zone time travel episode tonight. /csb

Trivia: The show was filmed across the street from the South Fork Ranch on "Dallas".

I seem to remember that Gilligan's Island got bumped, suddenly, when the CBS president insisted that Gunsmoke return for another year. To make room in the overall schedule, Gilligan got a very last minute ax much to the surprise of the cast. But then maybe I mis-remember.

Huh? It was filmed at the CBS Radford Studios complex in Studio City. Southfork Ranch is in Parker, Texas.

Maybe they filmed some of Dallas in LA, but the ranch was, and still is, in Texas.

Johnson will be cremated and his remains interred in a coconut shell which doubles as a two-way radio.

I heard that Bob Denver made them change the "and the rest" part of the theme, because he thought it was unfair to Johnson and Wells.

Gilligan's Island was cancelled to make room for Gunsmoke which HAD been canceeled but was brought back because it was a favorite of the wife of a CBS executive. Gunsmoke went on to run for over ten more years.

I met him at a book signing at tyson's corner mall. afterwards I was leaving and he was just hanging out at the exit waiting on his driver. I stopped and we talked for 15 minutes or so. His driver had the time to pick him up wrong. He couldn't have been nicer. He stopped and personalized my autographed copy of his book. He was curious how I grew up with the show, what I liked about it, etc... I grew up on the reruns in the mid 70's but still. My boys liked it but my wife didn't want them watching it because she thought it was stupid.

I've met very few hollywood types (more music types near my house in south florida) but he was by far the nicest of the hollywood types and probably the nicest of all celebrities i have met.

RIP -nice guy.

So....granny porn?  Gotta love that hot, dry sex.

Also, if I was shipwrecked with the whole gang, I would have killed Gilligan.  I'm not joking.  I would have found a way.  That doofus ruined so many chances for everyone to get off the island.

If I couldn't find a way to make Gilligan's death look accidental, I'd just creep into his hut one night and bash his head in with a rock.

/you probably don't want to be shipwrecked with me
