I'm shocked the local one they're closing here in Connecticut is the Meriden store, which is in a mall that actually still does business, and isn't a total dump, unlike say, Waterbury.

Triumph: Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pa.

That will leave a big hole in my local mall.  Maybe they can turn it into an Ayn Rand tribute space.  Exton Mall is run by a REIT (real estate investment trust) that's been raising the rents and losing retailers at a rapid pace.  The place is large enough to survive this, but it has a Sears too.  And Macy's is right in the middle.

Now that I think about it, it might be a good time to shop at JC Penneys.  I haven't shopped there in years.

Problem: not selling enough stuff
Solution: shut down places where you sell stuff.

Brilliant!

I'm sure that never crossed their minds.  Perhaps you should go apply for a job there heading up the "We are gonna expand to increase sales even though we are losing money" department.

Brilliant!

Odds that the state even reports the jobs to the department of labor. I know some banks in the state that released 39people from their jobs but the state allegedly only reports over 40 jobs. Meanwhile Scott Walker's laser focus on jobs continues!!!

The article should have read "JC Penny's is closing 33 stories and laying off those employees. Here is the list:" with what you put below it.

You are more informative than that article was.

Why do you think Bill was so eager to sign NAFTA and grant China Most Favored Trading status?

Of course, the clothes at JC Penney (and almost any other store) are also made in China.

Can't blame them for closing a lot of stores in the state that is doing so poorly compared to the other states around it. People in the red areas just don't have money to shop. Thanks Scott Walker!

They're closing the one in our mall. The mall was dead anyway, now it'll be really dead. Does this mean I should go pick up some Levi's at cutthroat prices? That's the only thing I ever went into Penney's for.

This town is depressed as fark. There's a reason why I could buy a house here for less than what a lot of you paid for your cars. Too bad I don't get to live in it if I want to work.

Yep. It's a great store and where I get my fancy civilized clothes, but I still like seeing that JC Penny is there. Moving into the old Walmart location is a Tractor Supply Company to, I guess, handle all the local farming <?!!?!> Never heard of that place before, but I guess it's like a Harbor Freight or something.

Well, my store is on that list. Had a customer today that was only buying stuff that was on clearance. When I tried to upsell her some socks to go with the shoes she was buying she said, no they were too expensive ($12 for six pairs...) she'll wait until they go on clearance. And I looked at her and said, "That's why we're closing this store."

Real reason:
It's the largest of the JCPs in the Hampton Roads area. Every mall except ONE in the area has a JCP. AND it's in a ghetto mall! Seriously the only stores out in the mall are stores selling athletic shoes! The only people who shop in that JCP are the ones that live close by (because they have to walk or take a bus) or go there because the JCP at Greenbrier Mall didn't have the item they were looking for.

Could it be that Walker's policies have so impoverished the citizens in those locations that the store can't sell enough stuff to be worth operating?

If it changes enough, we'll get that Harbor Freight yet.
