Anyone care to translate this into American?

However, other users criticised the officers for intervening at all.
Gurpal Sindhar wrote: 'And if he then tripped over the front door and banged his head the police would get the blame because if they had let him walk home he'd have been sober by the time he got there.'

Damn, that guy must have a Fark account. No good deed goes uncomplained.

In America there's a decent chance they'd have beat him to death instead.

Probably more of that ridiculous rhyming slang.

Pants seems to be a scottish slang term for a chesterfield sofa.

OK 4 cop threads in 3 days.  I thought....hmmm a 'good cop' thread then read the article.  Never mind not the US.

I'm a LEO. Kudos to the officers for having a sense of humor, but the guy was a danger to himself and others. I would've tased his ass and made him spend a night in jail to sober up.

Not a pandemic of good cops. No need to panic.

Okay, I'll bite. "I would've tased his ass ." This is pretty much what we'd all expect from US law enforcement.

Since we all know that tazers are meant to punish those we disapprove of and not simply to be used as a non-lethal means of protection.

I knew that wasn't in the us before I clicked, if it was the headline would be "Police find man too drunk to walk home. Bad: They crush his orbital socket for not complying to their demands."

I thought they exist so police can use the, "whoa, I meant to use my taser, not my gun" defense.

A cursory perusal of the googles indicates that 'pants' means 'total crap', and is not from rhyming slang.

We need more cops like this. Responsible adults, not 12-year-old schoolyard bullies. No arrest necessary, nobody needed to be beaten up.

2014-01-15 10:26:50 PM
I've been found by the cops piss-drunk and stumbling my way home on several occasions. They sometimes give me a ride but I've never been tased, beaten or arrested.

Once, stumbling drunkenly through New Orleans, I met a cop with a sense of humor. I was in a walking cast, I couldn't fund a cab, and I had a pony growing up, and I figured those all made valid reasons to "borrow" a police horse.

Luckily, the cop was amused by me and didn't decided to night stick me to death. My friend claims she has video of this. I've never seen it, so I assume it's a bluff to keep me in her pocket.

No, 12/1/14 is January 12, 2014 in...every other country but one.

Much like the metric system, Celsius, and the 12 hour clock, the US has their own system of reporting dates.

You must have found the MOST obliging officer in NOLA. They put up with a lot from the drunks to be sure, but even joking about touching their horses will result in an epic beat down.

Of course they did. They can't have it getting out to the rest of the gang that they made it all the way to this man's home without brutalizing him or shooting his dog. They'd never live it down.
