I can't believe they are really making a go of this "Lincoln was a Republican back then, so that means he would agree with the sh*t we are pulling today" thing.

I mean, it is such mind-bogglingly unbelievable bullshiat that it's hard to comprehend the level of hubristic ballsiness it would take to even think of such a con, much less try to pull it off.

But here we are.

They never win, so they need the attention.

Seriously, they never win, but it's not their policy positions or tantrums or outright lies, it's us evil blue liberals in Portland, Salem, and Eugene.

Stay classy, douchnozzles.

2014-01-15 04:32:32 PM
Some small part of me wants to counter troll them, but it would require me to buy a ticket as well as win.

I'd like to win and youtube me destroying it, even though I wouldn't mind having an AR-15, for fun and lulz.

FTFA:
In celebrating these two men, and the denial of the rights they fought so hard against, the Multnomah County Republican Party announces...

I'm no grammarian, but doesn't that sentence mean they are celebrating the denial of the rights?

Seems it could have been worded better.

FTA...

The Lincoln Day Dinner, at which the drawing will be held, promises to be a special event. Another great Conservative, Rafael Cruz, will be the keynote speaker, speaking of his inspirational escape from tyranny and embracing the American Dream.

Sweet Jebus. I thought Oregon was relatively tard-free.

I would imagine that the Multnomah County GOP can hold its annual convention in a member's garden shed, without even bothering to move the riding lawn mower first.

FTA : we celebrate the legacy of two great Republicans who demonstrated leadership and courage that all of us still lean on today: Martin Luther King, Jr and Abraham Lincoln.

key point that always seems to befuddle modern republicans :

Lincoln and MLK Jr. may have been Republicans... but they were not *conservatives*.

how is this confusing?

2014-01-15 04:35:43 PM
The Democrats should have a raffle of surveillance equipment in the name of Richard Nixon. Or you know a George Bush Mission Accomplished banner.

2014-01-15 04:35:45 PM
How dare these animals hold a raffle to raise money.  How dare them.....  What's the problem?

2014-01-15 04:36:35 PM
I wonder what the hand gun option is. I could use a new glock. I live in FL and like going to movies so I need one in case those people text or throws popcorn.

For me, the problem is all the stuff I said up there, but include MLK in it too.

I'm a gun guy, so I have no problem with that.

Lincoln and MLK Jr. were both assassinated with guns last i checked. it is a bit tone-deaf.

in case it wasn't clear:

Second, Martin Luther King Jr. was not a Republican. Or a Democrat.
King was not a partisan and never endorsed any political candidate. In a 1958 interview, King said "I don't think the Republican party is a party full of the almighty God nor is the Democratic party. They both have weaknesses ... And I'm not inextricably bound to either party."
King did, however, weigh in on the Republican party during his lifetime. In Chapter 23 of his autobiography, King writes this about the 1964 Republican National Convention:

The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism. All people of goodwill viewed with alarm and concern the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of the KKK with the radical right. The "best man" at this ceremony was a senator whose voting record, philosophy, and program were anathema to all the hard-won achievements of the past decade. Senator Goldwater had neither the concern nor the comprehension necessary to grapple with this problem of poverty in the fashion that the historical moment dictated. On the urgent issue of civil rights, Senator Goldwater represented a philosophy that was morally indefensible and socially suicidal. While not himself a racist, Mr. Goldwater articulated a philosophy which gave aid and comfort to the racist. His candidacy and philosophy would serve as an umbrella under which extremists of all stripes would stand. In the light of these facts and because of my love for America, I had no alternative but to urge every Negro and white person of goodwill to vote against Mr. Goldwater and to withdraw support from any Republican candidate that did not publicly disassociate himself from Senator Goldwater and his philosophy.

It doesn't matter.  See, for Republicans, words are really just nebulous concepts meant to mean whatever supports the current talking points regardless of their original context.

I think a better counter troll would be to purchase several hundred dollars worth of tickets, bus in a bunch of Inner City Youths and give them the tickets.

I know some very liberal gun enthusiast from that area, but they're engineer or country types who appreciate firearms for representing an apex of 500 years of mechanical perfection.

It's like California, outside the major cities (and some counties) it's pretty much widespread conservatism. But things like nuance are hard for the Conservative Media, so they're both New Babylon.

then auction it off again, and give the proceeds to the Local Democratic Party

Yep.  They live in their tiny little super-conservative town, but travel to Portland to shake their fist at how liberal we all are.  It's not like we bicycle over to their town to protest their country club or their overzealous HOA-like laws.

Fact: the first bottle bill and state level decriminalization of Marihuana bill were signed into law by a Republican Governor of Oregon.

Heh...  good times....  good times...

I think that billboard was when I finally realized just what type of person comprises your average Tea Party "patriot."  They're liars, plagiarists, and cripplingly oblivious morons with absolutely no awareness of the goings on out here in the real world.

It would be like taking a Zippo lighter back in time and lighting it in front of a bunch of Neanderthals.  Inevitably, they're going to worship you as a God of Fire.  Tea Partiers are the same way; however, instead of bringing the gift of fire, all you have to do is tell them you have moved beyond programming your VCR and can now change the ring tone on any cellphone, and they will see you as genius worthy of holding the highest office in the land.

And in Portland, it's mostly the gullible dogmatic left wing like naturopaths, neo-feminists, and Redditors that get marginalized by the national Democrats.

Go for the long troll. Start putting out innocuous flyers that say something "We love blah blah." signed GOPlease, 503b non-profit.

Then the next flyer, make it so that you are auctioning off two free tickets to something GOP.

Then the next flyer make it so that you are auctioning off a human being. On Presidents Day. Or Valentine's Day or Labor day. Yeah. Labor Day.
